  • Hello Farm Family. Thank you all for joining us for another upload. The next three months for me (Neco) will be very interesting. I am on paternity leave & will have this time to focus on my family, the homestead, the animals, & all things included...but what if this could be my new reality. In this video we talk about work, being stuck in the hamster wheel, finances, & how we plan to one day escape this cycle in order to best provide for our children which is more than a monetary thing of course.
Thank you all for the support. We couldn't do this without you!!

Please tell Egypt Rose to always be proud of her name and her heritage. I am 73 years old and my grandmother urged me to be proud of mine and now I realize how right she was. My name, Zelia, is very unusual and can be traced back over 300 years in our family, all I wanted to do as a little girl was change it, but now I love my name and respect all those who carried this name long before I was born.

I am 54 years old. My children have all left home and are having children of their own. Nine years ago we moved my mother-in-law in with us. She passed away two weeks ago. So it is just my wife and I again. The children don’t live around us, so it’s just us. Slowly, we have actually been building a Homestead. We’ve had some moderate success, and we have had some massive failures. But when you mentioned you only had 18 summers with your children. And nine years are already gone with Egypt. I started thinking that at my age I might only have 18 more summers. I am still in the hamster wheel. I have a good job. And as my four-legged buddy comes up to get neck rubs, I realize that when he is gone, I may only have one or two more dogs in my life. This video has touched me deeply. 18 more harvests. I need to make a change in my life. I watch Keeping it Dutch, Fowler Family Farm, and a lot more homesteaders. And with exception to Doug and Stacy, you all still have your children. So, I need to light that fire again to start anew. Thank you for really making me think about what I want out of my next 18 summers.

My children are grown. I cherish each day I got to be home with them. If you can make it work and be home more often, do it. I promise you'll never look back and wish you'd been at work instead.

I think it is a wonderful plan so little Pharaoh does not have to go to daycare. Enjoy your time spent at home with the family. I think it's smart to be figuring out now what you want your life to look like in the future. Thank you for the lovely video.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all for taking time to work your farm full time. This is the perfect way to find out if it’s what you really want to do. From the time I started watching your videos, I’ve been super impressed at how you and Natalie work outside jobs and then come home and work your farm, care for your animals and your children. 🙏🏿❤️

Neco, I did the same thing for years! I was tired of working for the man and making myself sick. The more I did, the more they asked me to do. I did own my own business for 18 years, but I was still working for others. It was the best day of my life when my husband told me to retire. You chose correctly and God will honor your decision! God and Family above all! Nobody ever said, gosh I wish I had worked more hours! Blessings!

Wow!! Thank you so much for sharing your story Jan. That’s exactly how I feel at times. I work very hard & although I love my job, I’m growing their business by millions each year but I’m losing out on more important things not to mention my piece of the pie is disproportionate. Really looking forward to these next 3 months to do all I can to hopefully make it my 100% reality one day soon ❤️❤️

As a mother and a grandmother I totally agree with your decision. I was a single parent and worked full time and attended classes on my lunch break. I did get my BA and raised my 3 children. What I miss the most was the being home more often with them. I say if you and Natalie agree than it is your decision and nobody elses. You both know if it is right and no need for you to ask us. Love Nonni from Massachusetts.

I think what you're doing is great!! I was a stay at home mom until our son entered 5th grade. I never once regretted staying home to be with our son. My husband and I cherished the time we had with our son. On November 28,2016, our son was killed while restoring power. He was a Lineman. We miss our son every day. So make sure you create memories that will last you a lifetime. You never know when God will call you, your spouse, child, or parent home to be with him. If I could hug your neck and Natalie's, I would. You both are blessed to have each other in this crazy world. Whatever you decide to do, know that God is always with you. I am proud of you and what you're willing to do for your family. Go be happy!!

I am so sorry about the loss of your son. So few people realize how valuable and absolutely necessary power can be. My father in law was on a ventilator, they had a gas generator but were running out of fuel a lineman got them enough fuel to last till transportation could arrive. They save lives but it is often over looked but not by those who really need them.

You will never say “ gee I wish I had worked more” I promise. No success can compensate for failure in the home. One of my favorite sayings. I worked while raising our 7 kids. My husband worked at least two jobs while raising our family. But now with raised kids I do have regrets. Our kids are all raising families of their own and they all are educated great people. But I do have regrets. I missed a lot with my young kids even though I waited to go to work until our youngest was in school. Never live with regrets. You are right have your money work for you.

    Neco & Natalie--
In an advanced psych course I learned how important Dads are to daughters. In order for girls to do well in math, they need to have a caring father in their life to switch on a tiny part of the brain that has to do with math skill. Thank you for your choice to put priority on your relationships with your kids!👍👍

My kids are grown, married, and we have 7 grandchildren. The time with our kids was teaching, going to the zoo, 4H, and trying to do something as a family. I love that I see them making memories on their own with their kids. The time they were at home seems like it flew by. Cherish every day. Egypt loves the animals and teaching her is proving she is a hard worker. Very respectful and loving to her siblings. You both should be very proud of how they are. I love your channel and how your animals have special homes and addresses. More homesteaders are leaving their 9-5 jobs and making their farms more profitable and sustainable. ❤❤❤

Neko, I'm thrilled you are able to take paternity leave. I never thought about splitting. That's genius. I agree about keeping them out of day care for as long as you can. And if you can keep your kids at home until they are talking and can tell you how their day was. I'm all for that. Also as far as incomes go, I can't give you advise on farming but my dad who became a lather (construction), always wished he could go back to farming. They were his best memories, in spite of the hard work. So you're right in your thinking about legacy. Also don't neglect your possibilities for income from merch. I thing you and Natalie are doing great. And you have some pretty great kids too!

I say go the route of farm life and enjoying your family while you can. I worked at a couple different jobs after high school, had two failed marriages and one daughter I raised on my own while working one job for 18 years. I developed physical problems and ended up on disability. My daughter married and gave me 3 beautiful grandchildren, but her husband's job caused them to move several states away. Now I live in a one bedroom apartment with my 2 kitties and am semi satisfied, but very lonely and miss my family terribly. I wish I could have had the opportunity to have a little piece of farm land and raise goats and chickens. I'm 70 now so that's not possible to do by myself, unless my daughter had some land to start a little farm. Sorry to dump my life on you, but your story touched me and I had to tell you to do what your heart is telling you now so you won't regret it later. Good luck to you and God bless your family. ❤

No you’re not crazy! Why wait until later to enjoy what you’ve got now. Who knows what LATER might be like?! Most people regret not making changes like you’re doing earlier in life.

Hello Neco! Hi Egypt Rose you pretty girl. This is one of the reasons I enjoy your farm so much, you keep everything so clean! You're not crazy at all! You have to do what you think is the best for your life and makes you happy. Kids grow up so quickly, I feel like I just had mine not long ago and they are 44, 38 & 36 I wish we could turn back time! Never ever have regrets! Best wishes to you all! Take care and God Bless ❤

It's great that you traded the stress of a job for a totally different kind of stress on the farm (It's a good type) just to be with family. ENJOY 💖💖👍👍🙏🙏💖💖

Sweetie, you are a smart young man. You can do this, and I hope you keep figuring out how to make your farm work for you while still loving your animals. Yet knowing they can be the source of income to make your dreams come true. I believe in your dreams and will enjoy watching your family make them come true. Time goes by so fast, you said it yourself, make it count for more than "running in that wheel".

The reality is I think if everyone could work on their own time how they wanted to, doing what they loved and still be able to provide a good quality life for their family everyone would jump on it in a second. Hopefully one day it will be like that for everyone.

Happy Labor Day to you too. 18 summers do go by faster than you know or want!!! Kids grow so fast.Where does the time go??? Money isn't everything!! Family is and always will be. I love your thinking and your family. Enjoy your time!!! Doing something you love is the best advice ever.❤ Time isn't always on our side, so enjoy the time we have. Spend as much time with your family as you can❤❤❤❤ the older you get the more you realize how fast it goes. I sure wish Mom and Dad could have spent more time with us instead of the hamster wheel. I hope you can stay home Neco. Marie and William may have advice selling critters. You can do it!! Your not crazy!! Do it while you're young so you have NO regrets later!!! I have many that can't be changed. The time went by fast!!!❤ Time is time that you can't get back.🫶

Enjoy your life. You know what you need. No one else does. Some people can’t live without extravagant toys some can. Only you know what you can live with and without. Just as long as you keep living the Dave Ramsey way you will be fine. Live your life your way and for your family. Love watching your videos.
