This question is something that artists ask me quite a lot.
    🔹What is print on demand?
    🔹How do I do it?
🔹Is it worth it for me?
The traditional route of prints would be to go to a printer, have a bulk run of prints printed off, pay for them upfront and store them in your house or studio. And then as they sell, you get some of that money back. It's high risk. And obviously, you've got money tied up in stock, which isn't ideal for a lot of artists.
So there is a new way of doing things called Print on Demand, which is exactly what it says on the tin basically. So you list prints on a website, the customer buys the print, once you have received the money for the sale, then the order goes through to the print company, they print it, ship it direct to the customer if you need them to. And obviously they take their small percentage, and you get the balance. So you get paid when things sell, and there's no upfront investment. So it's a much more lean business strategy for many, many artists

Thanks. My experience is that if you don't have control of the quality: paper, ink, exact colour of your original (or as close as possible) then you are screwed. I do a one off print with my printer, it's worth getting samples till it's right. A5 is not expensive and you control all. I don't make my limited prints cheap (they go from 80 to 250$, often proportional to the original's price). Embellished, signed by number on back with a certificate. It works out good for me!

Agreed ALWAYS test print, and get a print co that you trust their calibration/ consistency. There are so many different variations of open/limited, paper/canvas etc it’s great, then it’s down to us to price accordingly 👌
