    Thank you so much for making such an easy to follow tutorial and actually showing the pattern pieces and what to interface. Makes a refreshing change from other tutors tutorials!

    Hi.only just found your channel what a great job on this beautiful bag and the time and effort you put into the video moving us around your work stations. I REALLY enjoyed watching you take us through each step. Made me want to buy the pattern and make the bag. Good colour choice and fabric choice. MORE TUTORIALS PLEASE! Lisa from England

    Thank you so much for demonstrating the making of the Driftwood in detail ❤️
    I purchased the pattern yesterday, I joined all my pattern pieces, and today I went through the instructions: 😳
    I consider myself as an „advanced beginner“, but I got totally lost at the facing part, plus: English isn’t my first language. It’s so much easier to understand, once, you‘ve seen somebody actually doing it. Great video, and thank for adding the time stamps,so we can refer to the single steps later.

    What a sweet bag. I love your colours and how they all pop together. Great video with lots of detail. I also admire how you change threads!! It looks higher end in my opinion when the time is taken to match the colours unless of course you are going for a complete contrast of stitching. Loved it.

    Nice to see a Canadian maker with excellent skills and teaching ability. Great bag! I'm from KW but live in Nova Scotia now. I'm curious about so many things: how do you like your TechSew? I'm considering getting one. How do you not get slammed by duties/taxes when ordering from US companies? I avoid it after getting hit so many times with exorbitant duties, especially with UPS. Sorry for all the questions, I'm just excited I found you!

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому +1

      Wow! Thank you so much Sloppy Joe!
      I do love my TechSew! I will probably be getting another one but this time a flat bed with a knee lift. A couple of things I have found with my cylinder arm - 1) the 2750 pro has a peddle for the foot lift and I have to be very careful that I don’t press the wrong peddle when I got to lift the presser foot - if I had to do it again I would have gotten the 4800 that has a knee lift 2) I find larger/heavier bags want to pull off the little table so I end up fighting the bag to stay under the needle and 3) the gap around the cylinder arm is larger than I thought it would be so seam/clips etc get caught and can throw the seam off. So all in all I do love the machine. It sews through most everything that I put under the needle and I feel it’s well built. I haven’t needed their help with service yet, so I can’t say anything about that. I have purchased other feet, a binding attachment, bobbins and needles from them without issue. They also have videos on their UA-cam channel to help resolve fairly common issues.
      UPS has, by far, been the worst for customs fees! I do get hit with the duties/taxes when I order from the US companies but it’s not consistent.
      In the past year a number of Canadian small businesses have popped up - which is amazing!!! or I have become aware of, that are now carrying some of the materials that I was purchasing from US companies. Now not everything is available yet - and some my never be available up here (e.g. Lauren @ Sew Whatever has designed dual strap connectors - they are exclusive to her). Those special items I will continue to buy and just know that there is a good chance I will be dinged with duties so I work it into my costing for the items I sell.
      Hope I have answered your questions! If you have other questions, please feel free to ask!

    Do you like your tech sew machine? I was going to get a flat bed one but read a few bad reviews that made me leary. You are a great sewist.

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      Thank you Marion! Yes, for the most part I do love my TechSew machine. I love the way it stitches, the control I have over the speed with just the Servo motor - I didn't get the speed reducer and I don't feel the need for it. I also love that I can set the needle to always stop in the down position - I only had to set this once and it does it all of the time - I press the pedal backwards to lift the needle. I also love that I have been able to go through everything I have put under the foot.
      I wish it was a knee lift presser foot instead of a foot pedal (should have checked out the 4800 as it has a knee lift) - I've almost run over my fingers a few times because I pressed the wrong pedal. I'm also not fond of the table that comes with it - there is too much of a gap around the cylinder arm and things get caught, heavier bags want to pull off of the edge because it's a little small and it's a pain to take off and put on - but it's a cylinder arm so it really wasn't meant to be used as a flatbed machine - which is what I'm trying to do with it. Someone has designed a table that looks like it fits better - so I'm hoping to give that a try.
      Would I buy a TechSew again? Absolutely! I'm actually looking at the 1460 flatbed machine so I can use that for the majority of the bag and use the cylinder arm for what it was intended for - still saving for the flatbed :)

    I used peltex on the outside panels and decovil heavy on side panels and bottom - it made this a bear to sew - it was so rigid. But i did it. Could not top stitch the cuRves by the zipper tho-so i stitched as far as i could go. I need to find decovil light.

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      Yes, that sounds like it would be hard to sew! At least you did it. Not sure where you are located but Atelier Fiber Arts has Decovil Light atelierfiberarts.com/products/vlieseline-decovil-525-light-90cm-35-wide-cut-continuously-by-the-half-meter - they do ship internationally.

    I am looking at your handles, where they join together. Yours look so flat and perfect. I had one lay of vinyl and one cotton and the ends look lumpy. No idea why I am doing wrong.

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      I’m not sure, I’ve only done them with both parts faux leather. I’m in the middle of recording another video, if I get a chance after I will try with vinyl & cotton. Did you interface the cotton?

    • @4golfing
      @4golfing 3 роки тому +1

      @@AshtownCreations no, i thought it would be too thick. perhaps the vinyl i have is not soft enough.

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      What vinyl are you using?

  • @4golfing
    @4golfing 3 роки тому

    Hi again. Cut out my bag today. I am going to do the bag in vinyl, but the side panels in fabric. Would you suggest interfacing and fleece? I am not sure it is going to be strong enough. I was considering foam but not sure if I can pleat the foam. Any suggestions, appreciated.

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      Hi Gail, sorry, just found your message now. I would not put foam in the contrast panels. Depending on the fabric I would use at least one layer of woven interfacing. Actually next time I will probably use it in my faux leather if it’s too light. The consensus with the tester group was to make the contrast sides as stiff as the main so it will holds its shape. I don’t think I would use fleece, but I’m not a fan of fleece.

  • @4golfing
    @4golfing 3 роки тому

    Strap connectors would be easier if cut in one piece and then sewn? i am going to use the same colour (black in my case) to do the facings on the side panel and strap connectors as I do not want it to show

    • @AshtownCreations
      @AshtownCreations  3 роки тому

      You could definitely do that with the handle connectors, I was just trying to follow the instructions. Your bag sounds like it will be very nice! Are you in the Needle & Anchor Facebook group? If so, you could post photos when you are done if that is something you are comfortable with.
