I have been doing this for a long time, but hear is another way to try this. First turn your canvas the other way so you pull towards you instead of try to swipe side ways. More control that way, also wait 10 mins in between your swipes the paint is thick and will not dry that fast but it will get tacky and you will still get a blend but it leaves more gaps or separations of the colors previously put on. You can use different sizes of scrapers and you can do the same with wide or narrow brushes. Great stuff though very fun to do, good job!
The brown and black donor work because to made them use red-yellow-blue in different amounts. To keep the luminosity maybe use greens and purples for the darks.
Nice. I agree a few layers before final was a good place to stop . But since it is still wet, would have been curious what it would look like by scraping it vertical , lightly and playing with uneven textures... i am a newly tho...so no idea.
I was watching you struggle with the tubes. I learned decades ago scraping a tube of toothpaste from bottom up, with the edge of a credit card, would yield another week's worth of brushings, and you just might get another tablespoon of paint out of the tubes. Luvin' your art...
wish you would come back, good stuff, no one else doing every man painting, and your commentary is great. one thing i haven't see you try, is let the first layer dry slightly, acrylics dry quickly and the viscosity will create more of an oil effect, just a thought.
So TRUE NED, Some times, Actually = Ussually My Work Bench Looks Better Than My Art Piece I'm Working On, Hence i decided To Make My Work Bench Top removable & Advertisable. ...............
The only thing I would have done differently is not use black. I feel like that muddied/killed the vibrancy of the colors. At one point the colors on the squeegee would have made a really cool painting in itself.
The best way to obtain effects is to waite till is draying and after all adding also Powertex and some time let some spots without using the squagee. Nice result!
Fascinating process Coty. Thanks for sharing how you go about the scrape technique. As you said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure someone will love the result.
Dobrý deň. Vaša trchnika sa mi páči. Keďže mám rada vyvážene svetle farby s tmavšími , potešilo by ma, keby postup skončil v polovici. Menej je niekedy viac. Vybrať 3-4 dominantné farby a tie dotvárať. Ide vám to. 😊😊
This is the first video I watched of Coty's. I swear I thought that the metal plate he used as scraper was the actual painting at first. Until I heard the clunk of the paint dropped on it that is... You have to admit that it has gone through a similar squeegee process as a Richter canvas. BUT I wonder if it would make a difference using oil paint instead of acrylic?
@@CotySchwabe I respect it... I use acrylic much more anyways, especially with "Ultra Matte Gel." I just started using oil and its Not as easy to work with.
I was desperate hoping you would stop at first 4 colours . Like you said, those worked best. If that were mine I’d have been tempted to swipe. vertically. an odd time. An interesting experiment. 😃 just goes to show sometimes less is more. 😀
Hi, love your work and videos . I’m an artist from Chicago. I’ve been looking so long for the perfect squeegee board. ( if that’s what you even call it ) Most artists make their own. Can you give me any tips ? I like yours…
Weird synchronicity just happened: my significant other just went to check the mail as you were saying “mail’s here”. We live in a big complex so it’s in a separate building!
The first three colours looked great..the blue itself is lovely but mixing with the yellow to make green when you have all that red....isn't the best it's interesting work well done when I try this I Defford going to think about mixing
Wot? No colour wheel analysis, what happened to 1:168, structure, centres of interest etc? You will be suggesting that you should be just having fun next. Outrageous. Gets my vote. Given me some ideas also.
I think Gerhard Richter has certainly produced some extraordinary paintings and his understanding of color takes your breath away, but I cannot get it out of my head that his squeegee painting was sold for 41 million dollars. Squeegee painting can obviously produce abstract work that competes with a painted canvas, but here is my point. Squeegee art, whether you like it or not is really factory art. Richter could have hired factory workers to crank out squeegee paintings weeks on end until they finally got one he felt he could put his name on. What am I getting at? I think we have to call a spade a shovel: Jeff Koons is the number one highest paid artist in the world (check your sources) and his sculptures are contracted out to factories and all Jeff does is put his name on one of his 'balloon dogs' for example, and rake in millions of dollars. He sold a sculpture to Trump's former Secretary of the Treasury's father for 70 million dollars and he never had a hand in making it. It was made by factory workers. Does anyone see where I am going on this? You cannot knock success, but I think the minute you are using techniques like squeegee or allowing others to construct your sculptures and art, then t becomes 'technician-made-art' or something like that. I mean, 41 million dollars for a painting you literally had no idea of what it would look like when you put your squeegee on it is in my way of thinking, not really fine art; it's factory art. But let's face it; people are willing to fork out millions of dollars for technician-made piece of art from Richter and Koons and others...
The painting was much better early on. Ended up as mud. It would be better if painter did not begin every sentence with "go ahead and..." instructive however.
Please treat your paint tubes a little more lovingly. It almost breaks my heart when I see you throwing them on the table - after all, they are the medium with which you realize your ideas.
Oh my god... don t you forget to put your breakfast beans or something else...? At least you migth have some chromatic sense. To put layers over layers without sense, is not abstract style.

Oooooooooooo
Good example for what´s the hard and difficult thing about abstract....knowing the point when to stop :)
Anyone else like how the squeegie plate is evolving more than the actual painting?
yes. Say, at 9:31?
I do indeed
😅😅😅
After the white color it was better than the finishing.
In my opinion for this kind of technique less colors is looks always better.
I think varying the line would work better. Also what about going in the othere direction?

Yeah I think the first 4-5 layers were good. Downhill from there...
@@CotySchwabe I still like the way it came out, but if you don't, there's always painting over it.
Half the time that happens to me… the scraper or the palette end up looking better than the actual painting 😄.
Did he use a scraper or a squeegie? I always felt that black ruined the painting when I have tried this
Great experiment Coty. Well executed. Have you ever tried changing the direction of pulls, mid-painting?
I love your different painting techniques, I find them amazing👍🏼

Your scraper board looked good at 19.07
Did you buy oops paints from Home Depot when you were painting? Good after white.
I love the red,orAnge ,yellow and light blue and Stop !
Sehr schöne Arbeit. 👍👏
Is that a mat board or a piece of cardboard you used for Squeegee?
What is the tool you are using to spread paint what is it made of ?

Hi Coty Stumbled on your site, yay. How did you make your acrylic scraper?
It’s a sheet of acrylic from Home Depot with a couple of wood pieces glued and screwed to it. Hope that helps 😊
Hey Coty! Where did you find that scraper? Fun video to watch!
I made it. It’s an acrylic sheet with a small piece of wood glued to it for a handle.
As the colours mix they always become less vibrant. I like rthe first layers.

Anyone else think that his work table is a work of art in itself?
I like it at 12:36! Then add some light and dark details... Nice to see!
20.20 was perfect …amazing look …you really should get back into painting dude
I would have stopped at 4 and let it dry. It was striking at that stage. Then use that as the background for a figurative abstract.
You could call if "Falling Leaves" if turned on it's side.
Thank you for the experience. I definitely want to try this!
What is squeegi made of?
Nice job !!
HI there :) i just discovered your channel and i already love it :)
What kind of scraper are you using?
It’s a Plexiglass scraper I made

I am a viewer, but it is not a question of how you create the layers, but rather what you are using the layers to express.
A fascinating watch!
Where did you get that scraper?
Made it with plexiglass and piece of wood glued to it for handles.
I think it looks cool.
Find your abstract method
for the color field painting ^^
Love it!! What do you use for a scraper? Is that just a piece of plywood? thanks!
Turn your painting horizontal, red edge down. It will look like an abstract forest.
После 4го прогона бирюзовым картина была готова.

No, it is acrylic, same thing Gehard Richter himself uses.
