      @@tinadavis43 I have to disagree, just because its important doesn't mean it's good for this channel, its not why people come here and the videos were long, repetitive and more common than the content that actually gets views, a lot of the time it's out of the viewers control anyway and just depressing.

    My false water cobra was such a gentle, sweet and curious girl. She got to the point that she knew the sound of my truck and would perk up and look outside the window when she heard me pull in. Sadly, she had a bunch of internal cysts that we didnt know about until it was too late, they burst and killed her and there was nothing the vet could do. We are planning to get another in the future, but im giving it some time because her loss was so heartbreaking and we have many other reptiles to take our attention for the time being.

    WOW guys. Thanks for showing the effects. No one will let a snake hold on that long in reality but thanks for letting the public know that these snakes aren't going to kill them. I know some people give you attitude about doing this but basically I could accidentally injure myself at home (not snake related) and have swelling like this. It's way past time people kill these beautiful creatures because they're ignorant of what they really are. Kevin I love your content. It makes me miss my beautiful reptiles I used to have years ago.

      Im really wanting to buy one in the future so if you don't mind me asking I was just wondered what's the general temperament I own a boa myself and they're usually really docile snakes , obviously there's some that aren't because certain owners haven't regularly handled them
      Do they get really defensive or anything like I know this bite was from a feeding response
      Are they as docile as boas

    • @KrustyKlown
      @KrustyKlown 11 днів тому

      @@slapbass8723 Ours loves to be handled. He is a VERY busy snake, always moving when being handled, he seems very curious. My son was bitten once, when he stuck his hand in the cage and was mistaken for a rat.. he let go right away, no issues. We've had our since he was a little noodle, he is close to 4 1/2 feet now. When he was a tiny noodle, he was bitty.. but then stopped as he got bigger.. but I think many snake breeds are like that when very young.

    I like how you showed a normal bite vs a longer envenomation.
    I have seen a long envenomation on Jeff from JMGreptile. He talks about it in his vids as well as repeat envenomations by different snakes.
    I think it’s fair to say that we are not at a huge risk with the odd exception of an anaphylactic reaction.
    Good job on the videos!

    • @andrewbloom7694

      Yeah, although I wonder if the allergy can develop after a bite? Dingo was hospitalized after getting bitten by a different random colubrid because after his mamba bite he is so sensitive to venom that even a garter snake could kill him. Can that only happen if its a really severe envenomation? Or is it like a bee where just at random after a sting of any severity you can get an allergy?

    • @ChiaraMainolfi
      @ChiaraMainolfi 10 днів тому

      @@andrewbloom7694 the body can randomly develop sensitivities. I know a man, he envenomates himself regularly as he collects venom and that seems to keep him safer. I think poor Dingo just got quite unlucky. Heck he’s even allergic to snake feces!
      I’m a falconer and I’ve had a mild bird allergy for years but when I started working with them it eventually changed and I can now put my face against my owl and smell her with no effect, but as I said it was a mild allergy.

    • @darcieclements4880

      I think there is sufficient data on those to not do that one. I think we want Kevin functional. There is a huge difference between viper venom and colubrids that are technically venomous but not specifically venomous to humans. I know a guy who lost part of his finger to an eyelash viper and his only comment was that it was not a good time which is why he always uses equipment when handling them now. There's a big difference between doesn't usually result in human death and technically has venom but it's for killing a different group of animals so it's not that noticeable and humans.
      The reason why they're doing these and showing them or at least the original, this one obviously was an accident, is because these types of snakes almost never cause reactions in people because it's very simple to avoid the reaction by removing the snake the moment it bites, therefore there's very little data on what happens if you're dumb enough to leave them hanging or run into a situation where that happens by mistake due to complex circumstances as in the case of this video.

    Love to see this documented! Thanks again for the sacrifices. Excellent points to consider, as they are very visual snakes, that moving too fast could trigger something. Had not considered that for this species, but it hasn’t been a problem either. That swelling and bruising is crazy though! Glad to see it come down relatively fast with little to no pain. @Kevin thank you for these videos showing the effects of the different species modified saliva on human flesh. That bite was gnarly. I can see the bruising I'm curious as to how long it took to return to normal after the invinomation??? It's very interesting that there was no spin associated. I'd think with the bruising and the swelling there would have been more pain with tesoecially this species of reptile. The false water cobras I thought would be a horribly painful bite but this is changing my mind.

Nearly killed me and almost lost my leg. I spent two months in an out-of-state hospital where I was transferred to from a local hospital that couldn't deal with it.

    High Dose B-12 will/can help with any residual nerve pain. Helps a lot with regeneration of smaller nerve pathways. It helped so so much when I got my copperhead bite, and the crush injuries of my feet from getting stomped by a 1 ton draft horse. With the snake bite, I had nerve damage from the edema, that was persistent numbness in my ring and pinkie fingers, as well as, at times those fingers felt like they were being held in boiling oil. Doc said it was going to be that way for life pretty much. But being a nurse and having exposure to hundreds of doctors and research personnel, one of them told me about the high dose of B-12, and within 6 weeks of the edema resolving and skin damage healing, the nerve pain was gone completely except for issues with really cold weather exposure. The foot injuries came with spontaneous nerve firing that felt like I was getting stabbed with an ice pick without any stimulus at all. The B-12 pretty much prevents that from happening if I remember to daily dose with only a slightly above normal dose of B-12.

    More education on rear fanged venomous is cool. Good to know that the reactions are not severe. I’ve only been bitten by Garter Snakes in the rear fanged species and never for too long.
    They do tend to bleed a lot, but never had one latch on long enough to envenomate. I have been chewed on by milk snakes, but no reaction there.
    I’ve had one grazing bite from a venomous snake and that was an experience I’d rather not have again. I say “grazing” because the bite looked more like a slash on my leg, but I knew within a few minutes that it was a snake bite. The fact that the snake was still there was a dead giveaway and then there was the abnormal pain for a scrape against a tree trunk. I always look prior to stepping over logs now. I did stand on it first (the log, not the snake), but never bothered to look down before dismounting.
    90% of my woodland hikes are in areas with no venomous snakes at all, I live on Long Island, NY. This one hike in Hudson Highlands (part of the Appalachian Mountains), when I was 16, found one of the very few Timber Rattlesnakes in the area. Not even sure if that area still has any rattlesnakes anymore, harder and harder to come by. There’s that, and I don’t go looking for them.
    Again, love the education on this channel.

It has been great seeing lots of content coming out from the channel now AND we dont have to hear that absolutely agonizing voice of the complete fool who IMHO had basically destroyed the channel here and probably on other platforms as well.. the dude tried to make the channel about him so badly and based on the thousands of comments people couldn't stand him with me probably being the more vocal one because I seen him using stupid drama tactics to try and create growth by creating feuds in the reptile community which would never work plus its not 2010 and to me the dude had zero clue how YT actually works and yeah IMO he was awful for this channel, Kevin and the community.. the channel has never been better content wise and every other way since he was sent packing and Kev really started slamming the content like crazy!
    I personally have really liked the fact that someone started helping him by filming at least because while his "bubblegum" videos were a start to something better I dont think those had the quality to grow to a big healthy channel again and I dont even know where that term came from but it just sounds mehh lol.. I hope with your lending hand this helps turn things around and gets the channel earning properly to help Kev stabilize his operations because from just the sounds of what he has hinted it seems like the operation was really not doing the best financially and hopefully with Kev really pumping content and the changes he has made and is making to his OP things can get on the up and up quickly there! Sorry if you happen to be friends with the idiot who was running Kevs social and filming but I personally couldn't stand him along with many others and I feel like he had to be giving Kev really shitty advice and obviously he was not in it for anyone but himself because as far as I know he wasn't ever helping Kev out as a friend and just wanted paid which I get but I think he was highly responsible for the channel doing poorly and I certainly would have not been able to take payment at some point knowing I did that but I think he is likely still full of himself and probably still doesn't get he sucks. Hopefully you dont even know the guy lol but again thanks for helping Kev out and we already see you actually know what you are doing and being an actual good friend!

    Super interesting, I would love to get a Falsely, and know the worst that could happen helps me not have any hesitance. The Hognose would be cool, I have seen other Hognose bites where the hand swells up.
    After hearing the Gartersnake is rear-fanged venomous, I have wondered what the worst a Gartersnake envenomation would be.
    Maybe a part 4 Gartersnake?

    I live in Sacramento but lived a good part of my life in the foothills above Sac and used to catch all kinds of different snakes and lizards. Once I took a really good bite from a huge garter snake and my finger was really irritated and swollen for a few hours and stayed a little swollen for the rest of the day but it itched where it bit me like crazy, kind of like a bee sting. I figured it was because I caught it coming out of a shallow filthy pond in the heat of summer, maybe got some type of infection but I've heard that they can have modified saliva as well. It's the only time that happened and I've been bit many times by species indigenous to Northern California. This was a giant garter snake too, not sure if that matters.

    Really interesting to see, I wonder if there’s a similar variation in people’s reactions to different snake venoms as there is in spider or mosquito bites? I’m highly reactive to some types of (not medically significant) spiders, but not others. Hoping you still keep up the educational content and animal behavior videos while working with Andy…

    Emily and Ed (at Snake Discovery) have one or two hognoses, including a few spicy ones who bite whenever they can.
    If you need to, I'm sure they'd be fine with you giving them a call and going there to get munched on... :)

    These videos are educational and should at least put reptile owners at ease that this is what to sorta expect as in worst case senarios. I'm allergic to wasps, bees, and such and was so worried about if I had a hognose, and had i got bit if I would have an allergic reaction to that and be put into a hospital like the bee venom did. Well a month into owning my snake, I was tagged by my hognose and no reaction. A year into owning her, she got me when i was cleaning her tub, and she chewed a little but not enough to be over a 20sec. and my hand had looked similar to this false cobra bite, I lived obviously, and was in discomfort, throbbing in my hand, limited use for a few days, and was inflammed but still no where close to what a bee did to me. As I look at these videos and dealt with a hognose chew on me, that the bees are worst than what these snakes could do.

    I get that false water cobras are pretty much harmless but I would never intentionally get bitten by any snake that has venom because even if it's not toxic enough to need anti-venom you never know how your body may react, you could have an allergy that you might not know about.

    Id say thats pretty bad. That swelling is dangerous. Your skin can split and/or cut off circulation. A swollen finger? Fine. A whole arm? Umm... The medical professional in me (im a phlebotomist and ekg tech) says go after the whole hand swells. Please

      @darcieclements4880 3 місяці тому +3

      Id say the biggest risk is if you try to use your hand while it's swollen and you end up rupturing something, but this degree of swelling isn't that severe so probably not that big of a deal. To me this looks about on par with the amount of swelling experienced after a surgical incision on a hand, and less than the amount of swelling associated with traumatic injury like getting a hand stepped on by a large animal or crunched on by a big dog. For me this actually makes me a lot more comfortable with false water cobras because I am a biologist and I have seen some stuff but this, this is not significant and under normal circumstances you're never going to have this animal attached for more than 30 seconds. That said the blood thinning effects were quite noticeable I'll be at minor so anybody who's on blood thinners or medications that interact with blood thinners would probably not want to keep one of these just in case there was an interaction.
      I'm very interested to see the hognose since they don't use their saliva as a venom and it's sort of accidental or transitional if you prefer that it causes swelling. A byproduct of the same molecules used by the immune system as the digestive system. Useless for killing things but still causes swelling however finding one that will actually latch on is going to require one with an over-the-top feeding response and poor training. And of course the other thing is is not every population actually has enough lipase to cause a reaction as was found when they were originally researching the genus, making them kind of similar to what's seen in human saliva.
