You mention the lack of targeting for Shadows adjustments in each of your videos about Pixelmator. :) This issue will be addressed in one of the upcoming Pixelmator versions, although old documents will still have "wide" shadows for compatibility reasons. The handling of dynamic range and highlights will also be improved.
Any update on this @Sukhinov? The exposure slider feels "off" to me in Pixelmator, as if it's less natural, and it's the one thing making me question whether I can use it
Great video, I love PMP, especially since the team continues to make regular improvements. Once they build in some Stitching & Focus stacking features.. it will be the premiere editor
Another pro for Pixelmator is the fact that the design and use looks much more modern. Affinity photo appearance is rather old fashioned and not that fun to use.
Yes!! The interface of Photo is ugly, old-fashioned, trying to imitate Adobe Photo with no success, the software is not intuitive. Pixelmator Pro is so elegant and super fun and easy to use, not only editing photos, but making designs, like posters. A success and I wish the team all the best in the future!
in affinity photo i'm pretty sure that if the 100% slider is not enough you can manually input a higher number in the box that will increase the shadows/highlights, or at least in photo persona you can. but I do agree Affinity needs AI tools now as that is severely lacking especially when it comes to workflow.
Yes AI needs to be integrated asap. Every other RAW editor seems to have it nowadays. That's true you can iniput values as well in Affinity. Never needed to do so though as it brightened plenty!
You have a very nice video but you know...until the 2203 a lot of things can change....... it's not that I want to wait until then but I don't think I will be here..... if you update the title maybe I will be there in time...... anyway much .... much appreciated all your videos! Love from Italy!
@@takebetterphotos8132 Im no expert as you are but having tried it. There is some features that are missing compared to Photomator, but like the layout and the file management better. Would like to see what a professional would say about it. I also have Affinity Photo 1 but find it to complicated.
Totally agree. However I think its not in the near future and HDR is quite hard to do properly. You can view their roadmap here www.pixelmator.com/photomator/roadmap/
As a Darktable user this test confirms that my Affinity Photo 2 is excellent as a pixel editor in continuation of the results from Darktable, that is - in the few cases when I need one. Most of the time I don't need a pixel editor for my nature images. Darktable is free, which is a good argument pro this software, but it's rather difficult to learn and tends to 'kill' the interest up front with many beginners. AP2 represents high value for the money. I really appreciate my combination, as it keeps me off Adobe and other constructions based on subscriptions. I hope AP2 will avoid the AI pit, which slowly but surely will bury craftsmanship, creativity, imagination and personal development. Thank you for the comparison and conclusion.
Yes darktable is extremely difficult to learn. I admire you for figuring it out 🙂 Wow, with regards to AI your views certainly go against the herd! 🙂 At AF2 should put AI masking at least!
Yes! Your analysis is correct! Affinity has made a bad job with Photo. Designer is a success, together with Publisher. When I edit raw files, I stick to the very wonderful Adobe Lightroom Classic, the desktop version! , not the simpler version (not called ’classic’) which is for mobile jobs. The latest, 2024 version, is formidable! I use Pixelmator Pro in combination with Affinity Designer and Photo and, of course, Adobe Photoshop!
Wow you have every software! I do believe Affinity is having more success and putting more resources into Designer and Publisher as there is very little update to Photo. I think most people stick with Affinity to avoid Adobe's subscription. But for sure Lightroom Classic/Photoshop is the gold standard.
I own both programs also and love them both. But I find this comparison pretty unfair. You are comparing Pixelmator full capability to the Develop Persona, not the full Affinity Photo. Affinity Photo Develop Persona is not the best Raw Developer I have used, that spot is reserved so far for Capture One Pro (and now Adobe Camera Raw) but (and this is a big but) regardless of Affinity photo lacking on AI powered selection tools, the quick selection and the refine selection tool and the live masks, are way powerful and accurate than the Pixelmator counterpart. Granted, RAW editing only within the Develop Persona is limited, but the work can be finished with outstanding results in the Photo Persona.
Hi thanks for your comment. I do agree with you that Affinity Photo has powerful tools in Photo Person (refine selection, live masks etc...) which can mitigate the limitations in develop persona. However if you watched till my last example I showed that while Photo Persona has powerful tools its lack of support of RAW, limits the kind of editing quality you get which Pixelmator Pro does not. Do check that part out if you haven't.
40 years working with color and just the use of different screens make everything different and besides not all human brains see the same color, to me is ridiculous what we are doing lately taking the most minimal difference in something to be the way to live. I have 3 screens the same brand in the same desk with the same voltage connected to the same video card and in the 3 screens have color differences.
Wow. The real winner is Adobe Lightroom Classic. The resulting image quality from both tools was awful and the sophistication of Lightroom’s masking tools leaves both of these choices in the dust. I detest rentalware, but Adobe will continue to get its monthly pound of flesh from me.
Yes it true can make a better product with more focus. They also take advantage/rely on Apple's graphics/RAW processor libraries. Unlike affinity which makes their own. Hard for Pixelmator to move. It's a disadvantage for them as well.

Hi there. I suppose you are part of Pixelmator team. That's great news. Looking forward to that update.

Yes their innovation in the past year has been really standout. I do agree they a strong foundation to be the premiere editor.
Fabulous work as usual!👍
Thank you so much 😀
Another pro for Pixelmator is the fact that the design and use looks much more modern. Affinity photo appearance is rather old fashioned and not that fun to use.
Yes can't beat Pixelmator Pro's design. Well thought out.

If sliders are more important to you than photo quality then yes go for it

Excellent comparison video. Thanks
Thanks for watching!

Hahaha! Thank you I did not notice that. The title was always cutoff. Anyway I'm hoping to visit beautiful Italy one day!
Nice comparison, id like to see a Darkrooms VS Photomator on ipad, that would be awesome
Hi there Noted on this. Do you darkroom yourself? How do you find it?
@@takebetterphotos8132 Im no expert as you are but having tried it. There is some features that are missing compared to Photomator, but like the layout and the file management better. Would like to see what a professional would say about it. I also have Affinity Photo 1 but find it to complicated.
ok thanks I've had a few people ask me about Darkroom. Photomator's UI is already good. Curious was Darkroom can offer.
I have both. no problem
If Pixelmator Pro had Focus merge and HDR merge it would be very close to perfect. Thanks for the excellent comparison.
Totally agree. However I think its not in the near future and HDR is quite hard to do properly. You can view their roadmap here www.pixelmator.com/photomator/roadmap/

You have every software. Then why are you watching comparison videos ? You can test it all by yourself.
For me a big advantage of Affinity Photo is the seamless integration in the Affinity Suite.
That is true. The bigger updates are with the entire Affinity Suite. I personally just use Affinity Photo though.

That's very true. Seems to be a futile task to get "accurate" color in todays age of consuming media via mobile phones and laptops.
Wow... is this true even with High-Class Color Critical Monitors like an EIZO?
Thanks.
You're welcome
thanks
No problem
Pixelmator Pro in fire hands down, easiest one out there.
Thanks for the feedback. Definitely the easiest to use.
Pixelmator Pro for those local adjustments wins hands down
Yes Affinity needs to add AI masking ASAP

I hope affinity improve
I'm waiting like you are! 😊
Pixelmator’s path tool is terrible.
I know what you mean. The polygonal selection tools is erratic.
The Big problem on PixelMator is that run only on Mac. Affinity run on Win and Mac. Game over. PM lose
Fair enough! 🙂 Touch to beat Affinity with that criteria
It can also be an advantage as they can focus on improving it on one platform. They don't waste resources for Windows.
Yes it true can make a better product with more focus. They also take advantage/rely on Apple's graphics/RAW processor libraries. Unlike affinity which makes their own. Hard for Pixelmator to move. It's a disadvantage for them as well.
