    I just purchased On1 and got rid of my Adobe subscription. I'm a casual photography hobbyist and On1 seems perfect for my needs. I don't want to be trapped in a subscription plan and I don't like how adobe tries to fool their customers in obscuring how to end their subscription. Just want a honest product I can purchase and work with and it seems that On1 Photo Raw ticks all the boxes I need. Thank you for this nice overview of On1.

    I appreciate your video, Jim. I am a BEGINNER beginner with ON1. Although I have used some of the ON1 tutorials, I have been frustrated in trying to figure out how to use ON1. This Quick Start Guide, and Beginner's Guide to Develop are helpful. The information went by pretty quickly, and I expect to try out some of the techniques, and then watch the videos again - probably more than once. I also was in Colorado in October, photographing the fall colors. I came back with photos I am eager to edit. Thank you for your help! - Anna B.

    Hey Jim, I bought your Lovely Light Presets in Luminar Neo and really like them. I hardly ever use presets, but I actually found a few in your preset that really help kickstart my edited process on my sunset images. Also, I went back to using Luminar Neo. After using the ON1 2024, it made me realize how good Luminar Neo really is. The Brilliance AI destroys my images and didn't help my work flow whatsoever. But Luminar Neo's Enhance AI really does a pretty accurate job. It's not perfect either, but it's far superior to ON1's Brilliance AI.

    • @JimNix

      Hi Stacy and thanks for purchasing those presets, and glad to hear that you like them and are getting some good use out of them. That's awesome to hear, and I appreciate it! Sorry you weren't happy with On1 but of course I love Luminar Neo and will keep doing vids about it too, so I am glad you are using it. Thanks so much.

    Is there a provision in on 1 for layering and syncing images for “blending” ? Specifically for architecture work, adding flash to specific areas with brushes. I don’t want to stay tethered to Photoshop.

    Very good beginner tutorial Jim. I'm more or less a beginner because I've not used On1 Photo RAW software in so long that I've kind of forgotten how it works! Lol! (FYI: I'm ever deeper into my new Blake Rudis workflow - Tone * Effects * Color, using Adobe Bridge, Camera Raw, and Photoshop, but I've always enjoyed having On1 and Luminar Neo as sidekicks. 😎)

    Hi Jim,
    I'm already looking forward to your next videos, as they are simply much better and more informative than the sneak peak videos from ON1.
    I have tested the new version on some photos and would like to see a video on the masking tools. I noticed that although ON1 has incredibly good skies on board with Occudrone Skies, the masking when replacing the sky is still far behind Luminar NEO. Even Photoshop now does this much better. I had hoped for a significant improvement here.
    Overall, ON1 has done a really good job with the new version.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  8 місяців тому

      Thanks Andreas, I appreciate you watching and glad you find these videos useful. I will do more for sure. I haven't had time to look at their sky replacement yet but it sounds like it isn't improved, and I agree that Luminar is really solid in that category. But yes I agree that overall On1 did a great job with this new version. Thanks!

    I'm still waiting for the day that ON1 gets good enough to take my top editor spot away from Lightroom, but it's still not quite there yet. It's still not as fast as LR, but it's a lot better than it was. As far as the Brilliance AI goes... I've run close to 100 images through it and the Brilliance AI made most of them look worse. Some images, the Brilliance AI makes it look absolutely horrible with way over brightening and such. I messed around with the Brilliance AI in the Preferences, but it didn't help much. So far, the Auto button in LR gets my images to a much closer starting point. I had so much hope for the Brilliance AI... but I'm sadly disappointed. I'm still rooting for ON1 though because they are so personable and likeable.

    • @JimNix

      Hi Stacy and I am just seeing this one, I did see your more recent comment about lighting your shots. They are good people and I like the product a lot. Sorry Brilliance AI isn't working for you at this point. Yes LR is a good product too and it has come a long way in the last couple of years. Thanks.

      @stacyburk I totally agree with your comments! I too was excited to get my hands on this new version and quite frankly, I’m really disappointed in Brilliance AI. No matter what I set BAI settings to, I get horrible color casts and way too much contrast. I understand it’s supposed to be a starting point but for crying out loud, it’s not supposed to force me to make extreme corrections to get back in the ballpark. I sure hope this is addressed in future updates.

    • @STACYBURK
      @STACYBURK 8 місяців тому

      I agree. But mine does the opposite. When I hit BAI, mine gets rid of all the contrast and neat shadows that made my photograph interesting to begin with.@@roymedina638

    Thanks for this quick outline run through Jim and looking forward to further videos. After down loading and installing my copy last night I was unable to activate using my email and password and gave up. Over night there was an email from ON1 that stated a number of customers had had this problem which they believed was due to thier server being overloaded. They advised using the trial version until they had resolved the problem which they were working around the clock to fix. So this I've done and now using the program by this means as it's fully functional.

    Thanks for this Jim. Great overview of the new ON1 - I am new to this being primarily a Luminar NEO user, but I really like this and have purchased to learn this for it's power and also the option of using NEO in 2024 as a plug in. First observations are that there doesn't seem to be any mask available when in the develop section. I also haven't yet found any Dodge and Burn tool and with the absence of a mask in develop this makes it difficult to improvise with the exposure tool. I hope I have missed these and you can point out where I need to look!!!

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi there and thanks. You are correct, no masks in Develop. There is a filter in the Effects tab called Tone Enhancer. It's essentially a replication of Develop's Tone & Color, and you can mask that. thanks

    • @NJM1948
      @NJM1948 8 місяців тому +1

      @@JimNixMany thanks Jim...that's good to know. I take it then that there is no dedicated Dodge and Burn tool in ON1?

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  8 місяців тому +1

      @@NJM1948 there is not. And actually, I should have stated above that a Local Adjustment would technically be better for Dodge and Burn. So use Develop to get started, then Local Adjustments to dodge and burn and other things, then Effects for specific looks. Thanks.

    I am so bummed that the've eliminated AI Match. As a Fujifilm shooter I shoot RAW and set film recipes, which I love, and then match them using AI Match. As far as I'm concerned this is a major give back and even though I won't get a refund, I'm going back to 23. So disappointed and I still can't sign in ( using the trial for now ) . I thought ON was a good company but maybe not?

It is UA-cam not showing videos if I am using ad-blockers. UA-cam service has been getting worse over time and this is the latest. I refuse to disable my ad-blocker and I refuse to pay for UA-cam Premium. They are a disgusting company. I know you do this to make money and I hope you are able to continue doing so. I am going to use UA-cam as little as possible. Like I said this has nothing to do with you; I enjoy your videos and find them helpful.
