NOAA Report Card on the Arctic: Highlights and Lowlights
Please donate at PaulBeckwith.net to support my research and videos joining the dots on abrupt climate system mayhem.
Many years ago I came up with the now famous phrase:
What happens in the Arctic does not stay in the Arctic. It is not like Las Vegas.
What is happening in the Arctic?
The best place to start to answer this question is to watch this video. The next best thing to do is to read the full report.
Topics that are examined for change over time from global warming include:
    1) Surface Air Temperature
    2) Precipitation
    3) Terrestrial Snow Cover (which is very important for albedo)
    4) Greenland Ice Melt
    5) Sea ice (extent, area, and volume)
    6) Sea Surface Temperature (SST)
    7) Arctic Ocean Primary Productivity (the response of marine algae to climate warming and sea ice decline)
    8) Tundra Greening with warming
    9) Migratory Tundra Caribou in a warming climate
    10) Arctic Terrestrial Carbon Cycling (the Arctic moving from a carbon sink to a carbon source)
    11) Ice Seals of Alaska
    12) The Original Researchers. Hunters are Scientists deserving Sustained Support

Many Thanks Paul great report on the Arctic..lots of changes happening very quickly i might add..I really appreciate you covering this report and sharing the links online where we can download them and make copies..Ive really been noticing the past couple of years the higher temps and also the Precipitation levels changing from mostly snow to mostly rain..As we all know Caribou and animals have a tougher time finding food when after a rain the temps drop and it turns to ice..Sure explains the Caribou herds becoming smaller as well as other animal populations..Thank you Paul and I sincerely hope Copernicus from the EU continues if the USA guts portions of NOAA climate reporting.

On "Sea Ice Today" you can see the Arctic sea ice beginning to thaw already, even though it should be growing at this time of the year. Gonna be interesting to see where this is heading in the near future. Keeping in mind that the remaining ice probably is thinner and younger than ever 😅

Yes, I now remember something similar I discussed in a different forum about sea currents back in 2008/2009, when I thought cold water would curl around warmer current that would be feeded by hot spots along.
Analog to a sledge hammer thrower beeing transported forward while keeping the sledge hammer in a circle around him/her getting some energy (food) along the way, but the combined movement would describe a spiral, letting the whole thing move with less drag.
A bit like tornados getting dry hot air along their paths, marking the important note of keeping the environment with highest possible relative humidity (with repaired nature and soil to feed water deep into the ground and soon back above when plants transpire), so tornados won't be so large and strong, or perhaps not appearing.

  • @Rene-uz3eb
    @Rene-uz3eb 3 дні тому +1

The average yearly sea ice volume and greenland ice loss being relatively stable is only due to more rain and snow, thanks to higher capacity of air to hold water due to temp increase (since cold air is often too dry). Although I don't know what they're talking about really since fig 1a greenland ice sheet report clearly shows continued mass loss of the greenland ice sheet, to pretty much the same extent.

Nothing new in the status reporting. The way the arctic air is flailing about is pretty darn impressive pushing the cold far south but otherwise just more warming. On the prairies we have enough snow cover for spring seeding but random storms and droughts don't do much for crop yields. We shall see whether we get a reprieve this year or if the temp just keeps grinding up.

I think the Goldilocks zone for now is 34° South on the East Coast of Australia myself. I've been here a while waiting for the tropics to come down. That's a reality now. And soon we'll have the entire Pacific's nations arrive as climate refugees. Which is great, they're so musically talented and proud of our first nation's people. So the culture is looking up, on the bright side. And new people will get to experience the water front. And forced retreat will create artificial man made reefs. It's always easy to be negative but the joy of disruption will be both catastrophic and profoundly humanising.

I don't think it's that. The velocity of the social economy is speeding up. Imagine you are strapped into a hamster wheel. And as it speeds up, so does your pace. The hamster wheel is capitalism (the hunger for surplus), and thus is our pace (appetite). Now that Trump is using the economic weapon...we all will. Government to government, person to person.
