    Hi, this has been very helpful!
    I am currently working on an essay for Tempest and Hag-Seed comparison, talking about resonances and dissonances for the motif of prison. Would you have any suggestions on how to structure it, or how many prison ideas to cover?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  4 роки тому +10

      Four body paragraph structure:
      Body 1: MODE of imprisonment (how and why): Tempest
      Body 2: MODE of imprisonment (how and why): Hag-Seed
      Body 3: FREEDOM from imprisonment: Tempest
      Body 4: FREEDOM from imprisonment: Hag-Seed
      Hope this helps. We literally have an extensive structure with exemplar intro, topic sentences for this EXACT question on our online resource:

    Hi, im studying Richard III and Looking for Richard- if the q was on values, would self-motivation/determination be a value under power and ambition? ie Richard's greed for power overdriven by selfmotivation. Thank you!

    Hi Ignite HSC, Thanks a lot for your wonderful videos. I just had a doubt regarding structuring my essay , due to the tough time limit of 40 minutes in each essay I was wondering if I could structure my essay in a way that can save me time. My current essay has 4 full quotes in 3 paragraphs each with the topics of Male Hubris, Feminism and Forgiveness / redemption. Could you suggest that should I use less quotes in each paragraph or instead write 2 paragraphs for this module instead of 3 to save time?
    Thanks a lot
    Regards

      @jeddle  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for the feedback! Have you timed your essay? There is a 40 minute limit but how long does your draft take? You should aim for 32 minutes (8 minutes for adaptation). You shouldn't have any uncertainty about how long the draft takes. You MUST have at least 3 body paragraphs. Reduce each by 1 quote if the draft is too long. If it is still too long, reduce the final body paragraph by another quote (leaving two). Also, make your conclusion 1 sentence. Hope this helps!

    In the 4 body paragraph structure, do the paragraphs on the original text just establish the ideas, or do we directly answer the question? For example, the 2019 exam asked about "dismantling, reconstructing, recycling", and I'm not too sure how I would answer that in my paragraphs on the original text.

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  2 роки тому

      Good question. The first body establishes the idea in the original text so wouldn't mention the latter text (except in the intro and link sentence where you can talk in general terms about INITIATING the textual conversation etc.)
      The third body can be a little more integrated in that you have already established the text in body 1, so you should try and make at least one link to the other text in your analysis.

    Hey is it OK to do a 2 paragraph essay on John Donne and W;t? Got a very solid 3 paragraph argument but it's far too long at about 1600 words. Can I do 2 concepts, 2 paragraphs, integrating both texts in each paragraph, or should I aim for 3?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  3 роки тому +1

      You definitely need MORE than 2 body paragraphs. Work on cutting down your essay - you don't need anymore than 1000 words to get full marks. Be more selective about what you keep, and ensure you have at least three (shorter) body paragraphs.

    Question: Should I be talking about resonances and dissonances (i.e. draw comparisons) even if the question doesn't explicitly ask me to do that? For example, with a question like this one: EVALUATE HOW MEANING IS SHAPED BY THE COMPOSER’S CONTEXTUAL INFLUENCES AND PERSPECTIVE. I'm afraid that drawing comparisons will make it seem like I haven't answered the question.

      I would advise against it. It won’t take you from a 20/20 to a 15/20 but some markers are funny about it and therefore better to stay safe and avoid. All of this is subject to an internal assessment or exam specifically asking you to personally reflect etc. but that’s rare.

    If I were to write a 4 para essay for Donne and Wit, would I need to analyse multiple poems in each Donne para, or is 2 poems enough for the whole essay? right now I have a 3 para integrated essay with one poem per para, but my structure is poor. thx

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  3 роки тому

      For a four body paragraph structure, I would have one PRIMARY poem in each of the two Donne paragraphs as well as one SECONDARY poem in each (so four different poems mentioned altogether). The secondary poem can simply be used at some point in the paragraph to complement what you are saying with reference to the primary poem.

    Are you able to talk about one specific idea throughout and use different poems / examples to portray the textual conversation of the idea between both texts ?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  2 роки тому +1

      Try and talk about more than one specific idea, otherwise the scope of your argument will likely be limited. I would recommend talking about at least TWO ideas, and then exploring how that idea is represented through each text (and/or the relationship between them).
