80% of children???? Man that's bad. It's not the governments fault whoever is in ... What are the parents doing??? My daughters 24 now I used to sit down with her 3 times a week to help with homework, is that not happening anymore?
Parents need to get involved more and they don't necessarily need to know the subject matter but will find a way.

A suggestionIf you are receiving money from govt then you need to have your child attend or cut funding ie family care ,or solo benefit etc .you are being paid to parent ,that means kids attend school
You should tell that to families with special needs kids, or parents who work more than one job. I have autism and struggled with maths. Maybe instead of pointing the finger you could look at other stuff
There are exceptions this comment was a generalisation ,could you please explain why your issue with maths prevents attendance at school,which is the issue, if your autism prevents your attendance then there are other avenues of schooling ,as I explored for my son.
The issue is that students are not attending an education

We have got priorities right but NZ has not !
Our problem is that we have encouraged this gravy train finding children and this has become an industry !
Main object in life , have children and get money from the government .
We have created a parasitic society and it is high time we had things in place to tell nz that if they have more than 2 children while they could not afford them we will not be in a position to fund more .
The whole culture is that the government needs to look after the children and not the parents !
This is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are in .

High school needs to be 10 to 4, it's proven teenagers brains don't learn without good sleep and need more than younger kids or adults.
As someone who got up every morning at 5am to attend rowing training,and still achieved at school and university ,this comment is not true,it’s about establishing good self discipline,in life and study.
@@user-nq1ms5xk7p I agree my girls use to get up at 5am for hockey training, but the 2 days they weren't training they just wanted 1 more hours sleep.
some few teenagers might like to maybe start to use more polite manners and respect their parents and adults and stop swearing acting up on public transport and in the community, on streets dress standards are mess in school uniform acting up & not good image for these few kids also noticed so many vaping looks shocking their poor lugs on these kids!!! SAD REALITY NZ KIDS
