Zidane and Buffon played many years together at Juventus and they practiced penalty shootouts very often together which meant that Buffon knew exactly how Zidane took his penalties. The only way for Zidane to score that penalty was to try something different which he did, very ballsy in the final of the World Cup

The thing about Zidane is that if you're a fan of the team he's playing for, a rush of calmness will get to your head everytime the ball gets to him, cos you know he's not gonna give it away and let the other team a scoring chance. In a 90 minute crucial game, those pockets of calmness is a godsent.

Zidane’s genius was very very much appreciated by legends from his era.
He played a very simple football - which is very hard - and inspired a generation of playmakers like Kevin de Bruyne and others.
English legend David Beckham once said: “the best thing in Real Madrid was me going to training and watching Zidane play, sometimes I can’t believe that I actually played with him”
In his time, all world class players wanted his shirt after the game.. to hang it on their walls.

Actually, Dinho and Zidane played against each other a few times, Dinho being a barcelona player and Zidane being a Madrid player, but the biggest match they played against each other was in the world cup 2006 Quarter final, France vs Brazil which saw Brazil eliminated by France. Dinho was the FIFA world player at that time (Zidane won that award 3 times vs Dinho 2 times). Dinho was in his prime in 2006 while Zidane actually retired in 2005 and came out of retirement to help France in the world cup. That was a legendary game which saw a fully loaded Brazilian team (Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka who won FIFA world player the following year, Roberto Carlos, Robinho, Adriano, Juninho) completely outclassed by one man: Zidane. If you ever get the chance to watch that game, watch it, it's an iconic world cup game. Taking nothing away from Dinho, I love both players but Zidane was on a different level than any other player during his playing time, especially on the biggest stage when it mattered the most. I can type here all day and explain to you why he's a level above Dinho but his trophy case speaks for itself. Zidane is the only player to have ever won every trophy to be won on a club, international and individual level. He's literally won everything.

When we see the guy playing, it look like a Fifa player, seeing the game from the sky, and knowing the position of all his mates in real time. This is the only player that showed us such skill. You should check him with the French National team. One of the GOAT actually. If you'd seen him play live you'd be amazed by his ability to see the unmarked player and gave him the pass with damn accuracy! His ball control was out of this world and his intelligence of the game. Won the ballon d'or once but should have won it 3 times if he hadn't be so impulsive on the field. Finished his career with 14 red cards. If you wanna see one of his most beautiful game, check out the quarter-final of the 2006 World Cup: France-Brasil. A classic! Great video guys! Keep up like this!

MEssi is probably the Goat, Ronaldo Fenomeno was a fucking beast before his injuires something that we'll never see again BUT
Zidane is the most incredible footballer i have seen with my eyes a perfect mix of a classic dancer and a football palyer, combining SPORT and ART
I fucking miss him, he's from my town, i saw him growing as a kid in Cannes when he was 16-18 years old ...
    And a very humble man
No other player you can see for he last 50 years can be compared to Zidane
and like you said if you meet this guy in the street you would NEVER imagine this man could be so elegant with a ball.
He was able to create offensive moves more than assists he was the best for pre assists ... like in Hochey if i could compare ...
Some are born artists like Ronaldinho, but Zidane is ART !
    A unicorn !

This player is a french world and european champion playing for Juventus of torino (best team in the world when he get there), then he moved to Real Madrid the greatest club in the world . Zidane was from 1998 to 2006 the best player in the world. always great in the big matches. The best because he is almost impossinle to play or to stop big regularity classy and gracious to watch, and above all humble, serving the colliectiv , making the teamates better .making the team better. Warch France spain 2006 or France Brazil 2006 ... two huge masterpeace. Against brazil, he humiliates ronaldhinio and all brazil.

Ronaldinho brought millions of fans to the game. He was so good, but also the most entertaining soccer player to ever live.
Zidane was elegant, still not as pretty to watch as Ronaldinho, but a more effective #10. Yes, if I was to chose a player for my team between them, I would select Zidane. This is my knock on Ronaldinho as he loves the game so much, that he almost didn't care whether he won or lost. Zidane had the killer instinct. He took his French national team to the world cup 3 times, winning two of them where he destroyed Ronaldinho's Brazil both time. And at least one of those times Brazil had both Ronaldinho and Ronaldo (#9), two top 5 players! However, Zidane ended his career on the worst play of his career. That head butt was in the final of a world cup against Italy. It cost him a red card and France lost against Italy. It was Zidane's last game. It was the worst way to finish a stellar career.

When he hit materazzi with his head, that was in the world cup final against italy in 2006. France lost to the penalty against italy and fail to win his 2nde WC. The whole country was sad, but everyone forgive Zidane for what he do because he is one of the most loved if not the most loved player of the whole history of the national team. Except this incident in the final he was a very calm player.
He carried the France team so much, He had the best first touch of the ball ever

The roulette (360° spin move) was his signature move, but you might be surprised about how easy it is to pull off. In clubs we teach it to kids about 5-7 years old. However being able to do it when surrounded by pros is a whole other matter. It's a pity that the video didn't show much about his passing and game vision, because that's what he's mostly known about and what actually matters most in football.
