By the way, rice grows fine in normal soil. You don't actually need to flood the soil to grow rice. You flood paddy fields to kill the other weeds and grass from growing, but rice can tolerate floods. However, it doesn't thrive in floods.

I was wondering what was the white gravel like material you added in the clear plastic container with drain holes? Also was it the same material you added later on in the season when you sprinkled a little around each bunch of rice plants (at the 6 minute mark)?
