I didn't know Sega wanted him to make an animated short-
For context, Shadow was created 50 years before Sonic was even born by Eggman’s grandfather Gerald Robotnik. And later he was put into stasis after their base was raided and Maria was killed by G.U.N. Agents. Shadow originally was a villain and swore to destroy all of humanity.
Gerald based the design of Shadow on a prophetic mural about Super Sonic within the Hidden Palace Zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles,

@@noahdean9685 he was literally a child when he knew Maria so he couldn’t be at fault really and then he joined g.u.n as an adult because he blames shadow for Maria’s death and eventually became the commander.

As for the the sonic x shadow generations stuff it’s a remaster of sonic generations. Which came out in 2011 and is considered one of the best sonic games by a lot of people but now has an additional shadow story.
Which is the main reason for the new version of the game existing.
Also the terios skin for shadow is shadow’s original design before he got his official design in sonic adventure 2.
Sonic has over 30 years of lore and history so I don’t blame you for not knowing certain things however i am happy that you atleast know the basics.

Watching this without any knowledge of the franchise probably ain’t the best idea. It’s basically a comedic retelling of Shadow’s story in the series as a whole. You’ll not get most of what’s going on if you don’t even know basic stuff about Shadow.
So not only did you decide to watch an ADHD riddled video about sonic the hedgehog that you know next to nothing about.
You did so about the most complex character in the sonic franchise.

There is so much to unpack here for someone with no deep experience with the franchise. Sonic lore looks so wild without any context. lol
...Scratch that. Sonic lore, even WITH context, looks wild.
Haha, most people have a cursory knowledge of Sonic at best, so I'm in that category.
First bit: Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow's first appearance. He was made by Gerald Robotnik the intention of curing various diseases, including his granddaughter's (Maria) I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-AIDS. Unfortunately, due to various things his creator, Gerald Robotnik, was also working on, GUN attacked Space Colony ARK, where the research was being done, leading to Shadow being shot down to earth and Maria getting shot and killed (not shown here). Gerald snapped after that, messed with Shadow's head while GUN had them both in captivity, and, after Eggman freed him for his own plans, Shadow proceeded to set about a plot to make the ARK crash into the planet and destroy it, thinking he'd be honoring Maria's memory by taking revenge against earth. Amy, however, got him to remember Maria's wish for him to fight for people's happiness despite what happened, leading to him changing his mind, fight the Biolizard (the prototype that came before him, still very much loyal to Gerald's wishes) and helped Sonic put the ARK back into orbit before it could crash into earth, though he ended up overtaxing himself due to not being as used to a super form as Sonic, leaving his status as dead. Totally.
Second in continuity: Sonic Heroes came along and it turns out Shadow was not actually dead. He ended up teaming up with Rouge (who also premiered in Adventure 2 as a gem thief who was snooping around Robotnik's abandoned bases in this game) and E-123 Omega (one of Eggman's robots, the successor of E-102 Gamma, effectively, and very much angry at being abandoned by Eggman). They ended up helping take down Metal Sonic, who had gone crazy, overthrew Eggman, and sought to take over the world, with Shadow learning that he had been cloned. Multiple times. Leading to him questioning if he was the real Shadow or not.
Third one: Shadow the Hedgehog, one of the best games in the series (which is totally not gaslighting from a certain rodent made on a space station), revealed that there was more justified reasons for GUN's raid of the ARK, as it turns out Gerald Robotnik made a deal with an evil alien race called the Black Arms for help in making Shadow, using their DNA to complete him. Black Doom, their leader, has come back after 50 years on the Black Comet (yes, there is a lot of 'Black' in this) in order to make good on Gerald's deal. Of course, as it turns out, Gerald never once intended to honor the deal and, instead, made the Eclipse Cannon to blast the Black Comet to pieces. While Shadow... okay, due to all of the branching paths of debatable continuity, the game's a mess of a story. I'll jump to the end where, regardless of your decisions, Black Doom steals the 7 Chaos Emeralds from Shadow and uses Chaos Control to drop the Black Comet onto earth and effectively make earth his race's home and snack bar. Shadow, however, gets told about Gerald Robotnik's true intentions (before he went crazy) and he goes Super to beat up Black Doom, teleport the Black Comet back into space, and blast it into Black Space Dust with the Eclipse Cannon.
Fourth: Sonic Battle has him encountering Emerl, a robot from a forgotten race with incredible combat capabilities. His story involves their connection via Gerald's research into both of them, with Shadow using a keyphrase implanted within Emerl after he's fully functional again to ensure he doesn't threaten the world... at least until Eggman screws that up, causes him to go crazy anyway, and forces Sonic to put him down (don't worry, he gets rebuilt as Gemerl later, and, after some scuffles with Eggman (who has him under his control), he gets retrieved and gets to come back to the good side).
Fifth: Sonic Riders... He really doesn't appear during the plot of the game, with Sonic's group and Jet's group taking up more plot relevant positions. He DOES appear as a selectable character to play as, alongside other characters like Cream or Rouge.
Sixth: Sonic 06. What we have pictured is Mephiles getting unsealed because of Rouge dropping the Scepter of Darkness he was sealed in, causing it to break and part of an evil god to come out. Let us speak no more of this, Sonic 06 is a quagmire in and of itself.
Seventh: In Sonic Rivals, Shadow gets tied up a fair bit with Rouge and Eggman during the plots of the games due to hostage situations and, in the second game, Eggman being in a desperate situation and needing help.
Instances Eight through Eleven: Various side games and minigame modes Shadow is in. The bit regarding 'Shadow' in armor is the one notable exception as it's actually Lancelot... but he's a Shadow expy in this.
Thirteeen (did we skip one?): Sonic Forces, where Shadow doesn't show up for most of the game because, prior to the game's events, he gave an edgy mercenary self-worth issues, causing him to undergo experiments by Eggman to use a gem called the Phantom Ruby (which Eggman may or may not have made himself, it's unclear given differing origins in Forces and Mania) and basically put Shadow out of commission until the end of the story.
Fourteen: The Murder of Sonic The Hedgehog, where Shadow's just participating in a murder mystery game for Amy's birthday... which may or may not have ended up having an actual dead body.
And at the end, Shadow's just relaxed and happy... except wait a second, we're missing a game... Oh, that's right.
Twelve: Shadow had an appearance as a rival battle for Modern Sonic in Sonic Generations (where you play as both Modern and Classic versions of Sonic), a game that has an antagonist that eats time and breaks thorugh it like Giratina breaks through dimensions... who has just grabbed Shadow to yank him back in time for the remake/rerelease/rewhatever Sonic X Shadow Generations where one of Shadow's daddies wants a do-over...

For the most part, you got it right.
To fill the info gaps:
Sonic Adventure 2 (2001):
- Gerald Robotnik is Dr. Eggman's grandfather. With Maria being Eggman's cousin.
- Garald's intentions for creating Shadow 50 years ago was to find a cure for his granddaughter Maria's terminal disease, called "Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome" (N.I.D.S). However, for the government, who was funding it, it was a research project to unlock the secrets to immortality.
- After several accidents on the Ark, mostly of experiment subjects going on rampages, the government decided that Gerald's research was too dangerous. G.U.N proceeded to raid the space colony and kill any and all staff in connection with the project and seize the research and hide it. Using a biohazard accident as a cover-up story for the public to explain why there were no survivors. Maria, who was only 12 years old, was shot and killed during the raid because she was helping Shadow escape.
Sonic Heroes (2003):
- You covered most of it but left out a key part: Heroes is where Shadow's memory issues start, having a case of amnesia. Here, his goal is simply to find Dr. Eggman, believing he may have the answers to his past.
Shadow (2005):
- This game continues and ends Shadow's "amnesia" plot, with the entire plot revolving around him hunting down the seven chaos emeralds to recover his lost memories.
- After defeating Black Doom and destroying the Black Comet in the canon ending, Shadow then moves on from his abominable past, living on as he sees fit. Shadow's mind is clear, now free for the first time to do as he pleases and decide his purpose for himself, taking orders from no one but himself.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006):
- Shadow helps out G.U.N as a direct request from the president, acting as a temporary agent to rescue and assist Rouge on her mission.
- The being released from the Scepter of Darkness is Mephiles the Dark, half of the sun god Solaris. 10 years ago, Shadow sealed him away in the artifact during a trip to the past with Silver. Because of this, Mephiles seeks revenge against him and attempts to turn him against humanity. However, Shadow denies him, choosing to stay on his chosen path, even if humanity turns against him.
- This game's plot erases itself from the continuity at the end by resetting the timeline after Solaris' flame is blown out, causing the events to never happen.
Present-time (Sonic Generations, Forces, Team Sonic Racing, Murder of Sonic) 2011-2023):
- Shadow continues to wander the world freely, actively in search of threats to deal with, choosing on his own accord to protect the Earth in silent honor of his deceased friend, Maria.
Occasionally assists Rouge and E-123 Omega on their missions.
- Sonic x Shadow Generations (2024):
- Shadow is pulled into White Space during the Time Eater event. In his upcoming story campaign, he must face his past once again as he deals with the return of his co-creator, Black Doom. The story is written by long-time Sonic comic writer Ian Flynn.

So this was pretty much an homage to all the games Shadow has been in besides the one that's coming out 10/25 of this year. His biggest role was in his own game: Shadow the Hedgehog, which included a morality based, story pathing system that requires you to complete a mission for the Good, Evil or Neutral route. The levels are different depending on which mission you complete.
This animation sums up the games very neatly.
More accurately.. This is Shadow in the ENTIRETY of the Sonic Franchise.
Basically... You just watched a super abridged version of the Sonic Franchise from the 2000s to the present.
(Not counting Colors, Unleashed, or Generations... and not counting the Sonic Boom stuff.)

Lol yeah this ad was very specifically targeted at the turbo fans, the entire joke is it's the whole story of shadow but in rapid fire zero context minimalist form so if you don't know the lore from before it probably makes no sense.

Start of the vid when Sonic and Shadow turn super. Yes, they are working together cuz of the big lizard thing is crashing down to earth. Reason why Shadow fell to earth cuz in-game. He sacrificed himself to use all of his strength to save earth and Sonic. Which he was suppose to killed off, but with the fans high demand and HUGE liking of Shadow. Thats when Sonic Heros was made
And the giant robot. Thats Metal Sonic final form in Sonic Heros
And the demon stuff thats happening. That's in Shadow the Hedgehog. His very OWN game. But at the end he basically got fooled and had that anime flashback and saved earth AGAIN!!
And the party games are basically party games so yes and funny enough their canon. Except the last two which is Sonic Forces and the visual novel "Who murdered Sonic the Hedgehog"
Also fun fact! Teros WAS Shadow the Hedgehog old design. Cause in Sonic Adventure 2, Amy and the military would mistaken him for Shadow
Also ofc its gonna be great! Sonic Generation before this one was a huge hit on the sales and their last game "Sonic Frontiers" was also a huge hit especially with the music. And as well, this year is "Year of Shadow" since their has been alot of stuff promoting the movie for shadow and game

Casual fan here. Mostly enjoyed the 3D games. Chao Garden in SA2 was fire, soundtracks are awesome.
Most of the cartoons are good. Movies have been fun so far and the OVA was just the right amount of unhinged.
