Pontiac never made or marketed a "big block". All exterior dimensions were identical from the 287 through the 455. The only exception was the 301, and that was never a favorite among performance enthusiasts. My family has owned about two dozen Grand Prixs, Catalinas, Bonnevilles, Lemans, GTOs and Firebirds, and they are a lot of fun to drive, and very driver friendly. I still have my '73 Trans Am 455/4 speed after 40 years and that is a blast to drive. It's a shame that the brand went away. Good video!
Physically Pontiacs are still as big as big block chevys. It kinda weird that they chose that kind of engine size in the 50s without having a truck lineup
Funny you mentioned the slant/inline 6 multiple times in your video. The base engine was indeed a 6 cylinder but it had an overhead cam and produced up to 250hp.
If sized and tuned properly, carbs are still very effective in 2024. Unless you plan on not touching it for months at a time regularly. Plus somehow they often get better gas mileage which has always surprised me.

That's good to know! I was certainly mistaken in thinking the 400 was a big block. Thanks for the info! I love 73 by the way, great looking cars!
Realistically I probably can't afford it but what's their ask?

@@joesutherland225 The car ended up selling a few weeks back, thanks for your interest though!
@@sneff1052No they are not as big as a big block Chevy 😊

Those engines are super cool, Jay Leno has one and loves it, super hard to find.

As a car guy who lives in the same location, I can’t stop calling out and recognizing all the roads
haha I do the exact same! The straight pipes came to the Okanagan to review a Mazda 6 and I was gawking at all the locations lol
@ I first found out in the opening scene for the ranger when you were bombing along westside road.
