- The iPhone 15 Pro Max received some great camera upgrades this year, but I was pretty shocked when I saw what Google was doing with the Pixel 8 Pro not only did they beef up their telephoto camera with a 50 megapixel sensor, but they also introduced some new AI features which promises to make getting the perfect photo even easier... if only it were that simple.

I’m not sure Greg , I also bought the 8 pro and I am experimenting with it along side my 14 pro max , as always in some shots one will have a slight edge , in another the other one will have the edge , but in a lot of them they look very similar and it comes down to personal choice at that moment..
I agree on the pixels use case of having to upload to cloud being a pain in the ass .
I tried editing some old , old photos I uploaded to it , and I’m pretty sure it uploaded them to cloud and returned the result to me after a delay x amount of seconds later.
There is just no substitute for having a powerful chipset like the iPhones that can do heavy tasks almost instantly on the device.
No doubt it will be handy to have the ability to upload to the cloud and get some photo or video refining done on the odd occasion , but if you have to do it all the time i suspect it’s going to get really old really quick.
As a phone and photo taker I think the pixel is a good device and happy snapper . For my use it will be my second phone , but the Pro max will remain my carry around and main phone.
Some of the pixels features are very gimmicky to me, the temperature sensor looks pretty half assed , and some of the camera features too, some of it is good though , but personal choice of I had to pick only one it would be the iPhone.
I do have a question. Did you use and edit Pro Res photos?

The Magic Eraser on the 8 Pro is disturbing with how good it is. I took a photo of my cat on the bed and my knee took up a majority of the left lower corner. It erased my knee and filled in the blankets and part of the cat that weren't even in the photo. It's crazy.
That being said, I really wish they put a LIDAR sensor instead of a useless thermometer on it for more accurate portrait shots.
I must say, This is the first "tech review" where the reviewer actually understands photography. Im glad you mentioned the difference in shadows. Other reviewers call the iPhone's shadows "crushed" and believe that raised noisy shadows is better dynamic range. I've been a professional photographer for over 15 years.

pretty cool video and the way you made it especially with the old black and white film though that was cool i think the iPhone 15 Pro MAX is better I'm still waiting to get mines i won't see it until the end of the year in December

Is safe to say you just cannot accept the I phone pictures looks a little better, even though you cannot go wrong with the Pixel 8 pro either.
just a couple questions; Can you edit Pro Raw photos and lug videos on your phone in the native photos app? How long will it take you as and professional and a novice (Normal people) to edit those files? I like how you skip over the pro features in the pixel camera app instead of giving us some sort of example and comparison by diverting our attention on Google's picture philosophy. Lmao! What you fail to realize is that: they are also giving you the option to choose if you are a professional and have time to edit or a novice (everyday people) who just want to make a little quick edit and post. And don't worry it will get faster and look better. Do you know how long people take to edit a photo from the photo app or how many different types of editing apps they have to look for and try before they post a pic, especially women?
You can't professionally edit photos in the native photos app on iOS and you can't grade photos either, you'll need a dedicated professional editing app for that.
As for android I think the same applies but I don't know if google has more tools in their native photos app.
@@gehadsheha4775 you can't in Google photos either. I'm just pointing out his bias point of view in this video. He knows very well that most people edit on their phones and take longer than 7-10 sec. They wouldn't even use pro raw on the Iphone or the new 50 raw and pro camera app on the pixel because they just want a quick edit and post on social media or keep as a memory to share with family. But you see those AI editing features, people especially kids and women will love and have fun with it to post on socials.
@@ReObscura; The video is not saying that such AI editing features would not be fun to many people if successful. The video is saying that cell connections vary greatly while traveling, walking, biking. A camera feature which requires an upload of a high res picture and then a download of the same hi res pictures could possibly not be useable in certain locations.
Varying cell phone connections happen. That is not bias, that is information.

Did u use 12mp or 50mp mode?
Obviously, he didn't use 50mp. Detail on the Pixel is way better across the whole zoom range, except between 1x and 2x where it is even. Everyday shots are fine in 12mp, if you want max detail (for example for pixel peeping), of course you should use 50mp. The reviewer knows this but he has an agenda.

@@GregsGadgets You were using 12MP pictures when you say in the video that the iPhone is benefiting from a lot more details in these photos. It is misleading, because people wanting those details would actually be better of with the Pixel. But I will give you that you mentioned the better detail in the telephoto shots.

I know it sounds stupid but I have both for different things, however great review as usual bro.
Great presenting, it is just the that the content is poor. The "best take" feature does work 100% offline and has done so from the beginning, you probably had an early review phone and didn't bother to update the firmware. Audio eraser and magic eraser also work offline and they are fast! The audio magic eraser takes 7 secs to categorize sounds in a 40 sec video. This is such a great feature to remove unwanted noises and save videos that are otherwise unusable. It is just so clear that you are really looking for problems with the Pixel and are very eager to talk about them without much consideration. Yes, the iphone is more responsive when zooming, but it just doesn't give you anything near the power that the pixel does both when taking pictures and when editing. In the 5x zoom of the Pixel you focus in on some wires that were blurred when they shouldn't have been. The iPhone clearly did the same, but you ignored it.
Most content creators are apple users, and they have some bias even if they try to be unbiased. But you don't even try!
Thanks but I wasn't trying to purposely paint the pixel in a poor light when it did better I gave it credit. The 5X zoom has more detail on the Pixel, and the front facing video quality was a big improvement. However, I'm not lying about my experience using the AI tools, they were usually very slow, and best take took forever to show up on my phone - it's not a polished experience right now and it needs some work - I think that's good feedback for Google so they work on improving it and making the experience better for all users.
@@GregsGadgets I really don't agree with you about the AI, except that I understand that some people may have expected it to go faster from what Google showed. You say "these AI tools which are supposed to make photo editing easier and faster and simple and streamlined and basically anyone can use them it's half baked it is not ready yet". It just sounds like you could do this AI stuff (which sometimes takes 15 secs) easier, faster and more streamlined in another tool. Explain to us how you would fix people blinking or erase wind noise from your video as easily and fast as it is on the Pixel. Having this much power in your standard photo app on a phone (usable by pretty much anybody) is truly mindblowing. But sure, AI makes mistakes and will get better. As it is, it is already a huge advantage to have these tools available in their current state. So why should Google not give these tools to us?

Yes because the average body have time and the know how to "simple" use pro res log instead. 😂 Which btw takes HUGE amount of space. What the point of comparing a 24mp vs 12mp? Of course if you pixel peep the 24mp will be sharper. Might as well compare them on there full resolution then.
I don't know how the AI tools work so slow for you, they load in a couple of seconds for me, it only took long the first few times I used them but after using them a few more times, they load in 1-2 seconds. And you're comparing a feature of the pixel with no alternative on the iphone?! how is that supposed to work. You mention that the apple has invested in doing everything on device but it can't do anything the pixel does? most biased review I have seen so far

I want to have an iphone 15 pro cause I want to experience the next level gaming performance it has as well as the newly improved camera and of course the new shortcut button everybody is raving about! I’ve been using an Iphone XR all this time, I think it’s about time to upgrade for a change. 😅

I'm always amazed to see fanboiz pointing out noise, but won't mention the iPhone turns the shadows blue. When did color accuracy stop being important? The pixel crushes the iPhone on color accuracy but somehow it doesn't get a mention.

I think both phones are great. IPhone usually do better with people faces tho. And videos are great on both. But pixel wins it for me because of the AI features. Log is great if you're a real photographer but for most people using video on their phone they won't use that feature.
iPhones are for people that use them and are wrapped in the iOS system. Android phones are for Android users. For most people comparing the two doesn't help most people. Compare Android to Android. That makes more sense then this comparison. Not many people have both phones or will decide to buy one over the other because of their camera systems. I have the P7P and it takes better pics than the P8P. My Pixel 7 pro and iPhone 14 pro Max are quite close with results. Again watching a comparison doesn't do much for your normal consumer. Either you're an iOS or Android person.

@@hienho15 depends on a few things.. my p7p doesn't have issues that many are plagued with.. I know the Pixel 8 pro will have it's camera fine tuned. I've done side by side pics and 7 pro are better. The video recording is a different story. The screen brightness and battery are better on p8p. I like the feel of the slightly curved edges better than the flat screen and you may feel differently.. now the AI stuff that's available is neat. Idk what stuff that will be ported to p7p. Oh, the speakers on p8p are better too. It's really a tough answer. I suggest getting the 8 pro and trying it. Return it if you don't feel it's that much better.

Nonsense. Consumers are more likely than ever to switch manufacturer when spending 1k on a device. They're not using it as a workstation
@@hienho15 my Wi-Fi seemed a bit better and the cellular signal I didn't check. My area is pretty good so I rarely check the signals. Some speedtests I ran came back pretty much on par with my S23U. My P7P did as well. I know that might not be much help but that's all I have. I did have to return my P8P and watch 2 because my watch"s speaker was defective. My new order will be here in a week. I've been missing the P8P the more I've been using the P7P. It has such a nice screen on it. Personally, I'm glad I upgraded.

Agreed, I like for my shadows to be shadows. People think lifted shadows = better dynamic range now days when really its just +5-10 on the shadows or curve slider. Also not a fan of the magenta hues in all of the Pixel 8 Pro's photos and videos.

@@EricDejuanOOOif you actually prefer "shadows to be shadows" then you'd go with Pixel because iPhone brightens shadows more. Look at 1:35 2:12 3:47 4:01 4:43 5:09 and see which one shows darker shadows and brighter highlights. It's ok if you prefer iPhone but don't pretend you know what you're talking about. iPhone 15 Pro Max is not the one that keeps shadows to be shadows.
@@NizarNoor no it doesn't. The iPhone produces true blacks which most in incorrectly call "crushed blacks". The Pixel hates shadows and lifts them too high often.

This whole "Is Ai editing ethical" is a bit over the top honestly. What is professional photo editing is for? How is it used? It's purpose is not too preserve reality. It's to make the reality more appealing through manipulation. What's "ethical" about that?

Actually, the reviewer is just completely wrong. The best take feature works even if I turn off Wifi and Mobile internet and then take pictures. It works 100% on device, just like the standard magic eraser and the audio magic eraser. Only the things you can do under the "magic editor" button are in the cloud.

Philosophically, I have a problem with Google creating photos that aren’t really what was taken. There isn’t a whole lot of difference between Google’s changes and a wholly AI-generated fake photo.
Yep, Google will soon let you take photos without a camera. It knows where you are and which way you are facing, it will be able to give you a photo straight from Google Maps.

I prefer Pixel by far. I don't like the way greens look on iPhone. And the overall green tint on iPhone, basically. The magenta tint on Pixel is only "amplified" when being put next to iPhone results. But it's actually not the same problematic magenta/purple tint like what Samsung produces.

I said the Pixel 8 Pro Photos in most situations were a toss up on which ones were better, I then said the Pixel 8 Pro took better 5X shots than the iPhone 15, and I said the video was really good this year. My main problem with the Pixel isn't the output of pictures but the laggy camera UI and the promise of AI features that feel half baked right now.

Honestly call me crazy but iPhones haven't changed like at all, Samsung's are just Boring now and Google's gives me the S10 vibes which I do like, something a lot different and honestly I will take a pixel 8 pro over a iPhone 15 pro max, the Samsung's tho well if they do the 24mp mode as default in the s24 series might be my next pic.
