Not sure the point accept to sound like a record. I love my portabilism scratch deck that is handheld, has cue buttons, a really damn good crossfader, 2 modes for the disc you scratch with and it can play beats at the same time as scratching any sample you add to the usb. Is that where this device is going or just going to be a player?
I wanted one, and didn't have the money - but I did have a norns so I thought I would code up something that did what I needed it to do. I agree the portablism is a cool device 💕
Bro you should fix smth. I hear that L and R channel gets separated. It sounds like Haas effect. One of the channels gets delayed by some amount of few samples whie nudging and stays with it in normal play mode.
Amazing project! Even if the UI with the turntable is dope, I think an option to switch to another UI with horizontal waveform might be more practical.
It is! Kinda! Check the link in bio, but basically it's a diy redesign done by okyeron from the monome community, sold through his shop. Check there for stock. If not, there's the official monome norns, and shield. Depending on where you are there might be sellers in your country making norns shield. And drop in on the lines forum for anything else 😁 again link in bio x
@@adamstaff7352 your creation here is very cool. I’m starting a new rave company in my city but once that all calms down I really want to look into building one of these 🤯
I like the idea of this but I can't see a practical ready of beatmatching. The only controls you have over the speed is the platter rpm of 33 45 and 78 and the digit variance underneath. It needs a pitch slider like all other turntables. For me it looks cool but it's unusable.
You can get norns (the hardware) in a number of ways - and it does a lot of other things too! Scripts (the software), like turntable, are created by the community for the community. Check out the links in the description 💕💪
Totally possible! In this case I wanted just a small project, something I could actually finish 😅 with external midi controllers it would be fun to control too. Norns has stereo ins and outs, so monitoring might be tricky if you want a cue mix in headphones - same as with this script... It would be easy to eventually find yourself building something like ejay/tractor etc! I'll leave it to those teams 😅
I decided I really wanted to DJ this year, but didn't have the money for turntables and a mixer. What I did have was two norns, so I thought I'd make myself a turntable instead!

Excellent stuff, look forward to seeing more about this.
Thanks so much 🥰 hoping to get time to do a whole DJ set using the setup at the end of the video. Watch this space!
Norns is so intriguing, just nervous to get into one
There's a lot of insane boxes out there 😍 norns shield can be a cheap way in, and it has been great for me as a diy-er (at one point I had three 😅)
Niceeeeee my compliments very creative.
Even I self as a synths man see several applications inside my setup…
🥳👍🏼
Thanks! This was definitely my inspiration - sometimes you just need a little turntable on hand. Lots of fun manipulations
Cool stuff dude. I like the animations too.
Thanks so much! One of those times when keeping it simple paid off 😁 honestly the thoughtful restrictions norns imposes guides you toward cool things

It's on the list! 💕
@@adamstaff7352 this comment did not come from me, someone broke into my account
awesome vid and also happy to see a fellow og nanokontrol enjoyer
🤜🤛 Thanks! I'm not sure I'd say 'enjoyer' 😅😅 but it's surprised me how often the old thing has come in handy in a pinch

Yeah absolutely. I'll put it on the list - hardest thing will probably be finding a spare button combination 😁
A pitch shifter slider would be preferable to "nudge" knobs.
Totally! The pitch slider is controlled by encoder 1, but I forget to mention it until later in the video 😅😅
Hey Adam, what unit is that. Are the available to purchase ?

I always thought the akai mpc should have a feature like this. Except with two decks
Would be very cool

Absolutely - I forget to mention the pitch slider until half way through the video ☺️ but it's there! Plus minus 8 semitones 👍👍
Hi Adam are selling this excellent stuff? Where can I buy one? Thanks!
Hi! See the link for norns shieldXL in the description. Turntable is open software for norns, also linked in the description 💞💞
This is dope I kinda like it better than the portableism sc 500 ! Mass produce this please

Awesome! I love the visuals
Appreciate it! It's mostly really simple stuff but with a touch surprisingly complicated maths thrown in. And you have to love that norns oled
Gonna need to be sampling those seagulls
You know, when you're on the coast, you stop even hearing them 🪽🪽
This is so cool man! New subscriber ✌🏻
Thank you! hoping to have another script coming in the future
Cool.
Dope!!
Still sold out. I’m hankering for one!
Can't recommend the shield xl enough
