Hi Lin! Last year in July I received a hug cactus exactly as yours was at the beginning of the season. After a few months I put him in a bigger pot because he was growing very fast and now he is as tall as yours but much thinner because he stayed in the shade and only had sun for about two hours in the evening, at sunset . I tried to put it in the morning sun but it was too strong for him and it had started to turn yellow and make brown spots. I fertilized him very rarely, about 3 times in a year, I think that's why he grew thin but also because he doesn't have light. I like cacti without thorns, that's why this is my favorite, especially because it grows fast. and yes, it's the same with yours, it doesn't have thorns on the lower part but it has some fine lines on the newly grown part. I think their spines were cut before they were put up for sale, otherwise they couldn't call them "cuddle" anymore. T😮his winter he stayed in the entrance hall and suffered a bit from the cold because my husband always leaves the door open against the excessive humidity in the hall.
Thats fantastic you have one of these Cuddly cacti too and it has grown lots also, yes I think that they must have removed the spines on these cacti before selling them as all the new growth seems to have the small spines, they really are wonderful cacti and its incredible how fast they grow compared to other types of cacti, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX
I love this cactus and now have two (though I *try* not to buy one every time I see one)! Impressive growth and a beautiful cactus! Thanks Lyn for showing us this. It's almost a year now since I bought my first columnar cactus, a Cereus Floridiano. It's hard to find information but I think this is a different sub-variety of Cereus Jamacaru although mine has significant spines, so I won't be cuddling it just yet! Likewise it has shown very strong growth. I'm beginning to think it might be getting a little pot bound, so wonder if you'd recommend repotting it before the summer is over, or should I wait until spring? It's in a rather shallow pot (but a bit wider than yours here) as I didn't really know what I was doing a year ago. If I don't, then it probably risks falling over if there's a strong wind. However, it will need to be brought indoors next month for the winter in any case.
So happy you love this amazing Cereus :-D and I bet your Cereus floridiano is a beauty, yes I would definitely repot before the summer is over, you can still repot in the Autumn and Winter too if you pot up and keep dry, but ideally its best to repot before the end of the Summer, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX

Very nice update video, Lyn. I absolutely love the deep green color. With some of the slower growing cacti, this is amazing how fast it grew. The other one you have in your collection is such a lighter green but oh that flower; it was gorgeous! I would be really interested what the flowers look like when it has them. I was so glad to hear this cactus talk at the end of the video. Does the tomato fertilizer have steroids in it? Hahaha Sending you and Hans peace, love and Cuddly Cactus Power for a Wonderful Wednesday from your friend in Georgia!

I got a small 2" cutting of what i think may be Cereus Jamacaru from a friend last fall. Mine has tiny black spines and only 4 ribs. I left it completely dry thru the winter and it shot some hefty roots out. So i placed it in a small pot with a typical soil mix this spring, and i kid you not, it still hasnt come out of its dormancy, and its already the end of July!!!! I dont get it. Its still alive, and ive been giving it water.... but it has yet to show any sign of change in the growth tip. At this rate, its going to be time to start dialing back all watering within the next 6 weeks, so i dont know why its not decided to grow any this season.
Thats fantastic that your cutting produced wonderful roots over the winter, I think its very possible that the reason there has been no signs of new growth from the growing tip is because the root system is still establishing itself before growing any new growth from the top, I often notice with cereus cuttings that they seem to sit still for the first year and grow a healthy root system first, the following year once their root system is very established is when they shoot up a lot of new growth from the growing tip, I bet this time next year your Cereus will have grown a good few inches in height, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX

Hi James :-D yes these cacti enjoy being outside for the summer months, if you can protect them from excess rain and cover them with shade cloth for the first 3 days when being moved from inside the house to outside to let them acclimatise to the higher light levels, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon. hello. I enjoyed the comment you provided here and had a question. I took my lovely Aloe Vera outside (after being indoors for winter). Despite the nice weather and being on the covered porch it quickly depleted of color! Would I have needed to cover it with shade cloth for 3 days??
@@TheQueensWish Hi there, yes its best to have it covered with shade cloth for about 3 days to allow your cactus to acclimatise to the higher light levels, your cactus should still be ok and will recover, but if you are able to cover with shade cloth or move to a non sunny position for a few days this will help your cactus to acclimatise to the higher light, after about 3-5 days you can move your cactus back into the sunny position, cacti can sometimes go pale green in colour if taken into the outdoor light without having time to acclimatise, but moving them to a shadier position for a few days should help them to colour back up again in time, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered weekend XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon I just realized I left out what kind of plant it was. It is a giant Aloe Vera plant. So it’s a bit different from cactus. It had been bright green, but after going outside all the color depleted! It looks a faded tan now.

I was excited to see that mine has grown about 3 inches over the past couple weeks, but yours, oh my gosh😮 I will give it more light to make sure it has enough. Great timing on this video Lyn. You always seem to know what information we need 🩷🌵
Innit great to see them explode in growth. So satisfying.

Hahaha Sending you and Hans peace, love and Cuddly Cactus Power for a Wonderful Wednesday from your friend in Georgia!
hahahaha :-D so happy you loved the cactus talking about its plant steroid power hahaha, I couldn't resist this little joke, I really think that the tomato feed has steroids in it to make bigger plumper tomatoes hahaha, it really is so incredible how fast this Cactus is growing especially as we have had a wet and grey Summer in Ireland haha, I think this cactus should be relabelled as Cereus 'Skyscraper' hahaha :-D thanks so much Jeff for your wonderful Friendship and awesome comments and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CUDDLY CACTUS STEROID PLANT POWER hahaha to Georgia from across the Emerald Isle for a brilliant Thursday XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon thank you for the kind words lyn. I’ve just started my own UA-cam adventure after years of being in the hobby and watching from the sidelines.
I just got one last night as a gift
Thats fantastic you got a Cereus 'Cuddly' Jamacaru last night Alex :-D and a wonderful new addition to your wonderful cactus family XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon yes I was surprise how fast it’s growing. It’s outside in my south facing yard. I do find that the new growth isn’t as big in diameter as the rest of the plant. I am hoping it will get bigger
@@beckythebealge Yes I noticed that on mine too, I wonder if the diameter will get bigger as they mature, XXXX 🥰❤

Can I keep it outside for the summer?
@@desertplantsofavalon Thank you!
@@desertplantsofavalon I just realized I left out what kind of plant it was. It is a giant Aloe Vera plant. So it’s a bit different from cactus. It had been bright green, but after going outside all the color depleted! It looks a faded tan now.

thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful support, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Tuesday XXXX
The spines fall out eventually but to keep it completely spineless you have to keep it in lower light than it really wants, more light more spines
Awwww thank so much for the info Alex :-D I wondered why this cactus was spinier with the newer than I though it would be, thanks so much for your wonderful friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Philly from Hans and me for a brilliant Friday today XXXX
My cuddly cactus didnt grow alot when i got it because it was end of summer/fall when i got it but after about a year and a half its went from 8 inche to about 25
I gave it a huge pot and feetilize it about once every 4 waters
Its amazing how fast these Cuddly cacti can grow, mine took on a big growth spurt last year but hasn't grown as much this summer, but I think its because its due another repot into a bigger pot, they really are fantastic looking cacti to grow, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching and wishing you a fantastic plant powered Friday XXXX
