ATTENTION: On Windows, when upgrading to the new GraXpert version, a different installer is used, resulting in a change in the graxpert.exe file path. To address this, open the script, click on the Wrench icon, and input the updated path for the new graxpert.exe location

      Hello,
      Many thanks for your video.
I have just installed the last version. However, the script doesn't work anymore. I have tried to modify the path by using the wrench, but due to the msi format of the downloaded file (it is not an exe), I can't select it. Any clue how to overcome it ?

The Smoothing Slider default value is zero for a good reason. The AI already creates super smooth models. If you increase the slider the only thing you do is lowering the precision of gradient removal, which is not what you want. This is totally different to the smoothing settings used for conventional Gradient Removal like DBE or RBF, where a setting of 1 is a good starting point. Our recommendation is to leave this slider where it is. If you feel like that gradient removal is not working good on your images, it is far better to use the conventional methods directly in graxpert, and send us your image for training. Remember, the AI works just as good as it is trained. No magic here.

Glad to hear because the AI only version of Grax hasn’t been working consistently for me, sometimes it doesn’t do a great job sometimes it does. I have gone back to DBE so I can guarantee the results but if we can actually work with the background, hopefully it will help.

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  7 місяців тому

It's a mixed bag - usually I first run Graxpert AI. If I'm not happy with the result, I use ABE/DBE instead.

@@viewintospace yeah at least we can see the background model now I think once the full version can import where we can pick the sample points then it will be 100% but I still think it’s worth a go like you said, and if it’s good then it saves you a little time!

@@darkrangersinc I've noticed that playing around with the box size and density in graxpert interface and AI interpolation can output very good results. I have a Deer Lick data set that had some crazy non-uniform gradients on the blue filter that graxpert didn't want to fully remove with the default settings. I played with the settings and after 10 minutes I got a configuration where all of the gradients were smoothly removed. It's all a matter of patience to see what's working for you.

Thanks - tried it for teh first time - two notes 1) it says you have to use the wrench tool to inform it of the install location of graxpert and 2) when grapxert ran for the first time it said A.I. level 1.0.1. needed to be downloaded - which halted things with no diagnostics for a minute - then it all seemed to run fine!

I notice that people are having difficulty installing on Windows environment. Part of the issue I think is that the installer creates a directory in the C:\users
ame\public\app location - these directories generally default to being not visible. So it becomes difficult to find both the script file and the exe file. What I did was install to a directory that I created and would know where to find. Then when in Pixinsight I install script from that known and visible directory using Script: Feature Scripts: Add. The script is located and GraXpert is added to the Toolbox. Then I run GraXpert, click on the wrench and link to the GaXpert exe file under that known directory. If the exe file is dated December 2023, and not January 2024, then it is incorrect and the older version. Hope this helps.

I tried this but the latest msi 2.2.2 doesn't seem to install any scripts, at least none that PI can find. Installed to a unique folder as you kindly suggested. Stuck!!
EDIT: Did a search for GravXpert.js and found it still in the app data folder and linked it from there. Very confusing!!

If you installed GraXpert from an older release you just put it in a folder of your choice, in this version the installer puts it into C:\users
edro\Appdata\Local\Prog\Graxpert also Appdata is a hidden folder. so google how to show that. You need to double click on the file you down loaded from GraXpert to install the new file, where the old file you just dragged and dropped into a folder... hope this is not confusing... and it works just fine after you update Pixinsight. just install the new Graxpert first. Clear skies.

    Hi Sasha,
Thanks again for another great video. 🙂
It seems, for me at least, that if I deselect the "Replace the target view" option, then the newly created "__GraXpert" loses the astrometric solution. So when running SPCC I get: *** Error: The image has no valid astrometric solution. However, selecting "Replace the target view" option keeps the astrometric solution and SPCC runs without error.
It would be interesting to know if others see the same.
I'll let the GraXpert team know what I see, via their forum.
    Cheers, Jim,

Sure, that might very well be that this gets lost as a new pic is created. But then again, it is so easy to copy that in again with the FITSHeader process and the ImageSolver script, that it does not really matter.

Well, I endly solve the problem in order to reinstal the new version in Pixinsight as script. But nobody here, stated exactly how to find or at least a clue, where to find the new .exe file, for Windows, cause the first instance is to find another file about 1kb size which is not an app so, no .exe. Found the right path in start menu of Win 11.

I can't even get to the wrench icon to change the path. Not your fault at all but very frustrating. Can't use the new version, can't use the old version. Windows 11....
