- This is the first and last (?) airplane review from Curious Cars. Full review and test flight of a 1951 Cessna 170A.
Review by Bill of Curious Cars
Airplane provided by private owner, and will be for sale when the proper venue is selected, - Авто та транспорт
Would have been way more fun if filmed in Peter's driveway!
And with Bill flyin' it at the end like he does after each car review!
I wonder if they were flying over someone that was trying to record a video....
@walterwright8454 OMG that's a riot
Flying into Peters driveway might get a bit messy 😮
land on the roof lol@@HypocriticYT
Bravo to the guy over 100 years old that can fly a plane - my 80 year old neighbor can barely back out of his garage without hitting my mailbox😄
Stop putting your mailbox at the end of his driveway 😂
He shakes as much as the plane, probably cancels it out.
🤣👍👍
I'd watch a video on your thoughts about a refrigerator, Bill. So stoked to see this!!
How cool is this Bill!! A real airplane that actually flies!!! A Curious Plane for sure. Let's enjoy some coronavirus whiskey & enjoy the video!!! 🥃🛩️
Are you serious? This is absolutely great! I grew up with aircraft being my second love, so as far as I'm concerned, throw all the aircraft on here you can find. Awesome Bill, you're the best!❤
1:12 ...NOOOO!
if you dont like it, dont watch,,,simple @@bradford_shaun_murray
I don't get you, don't like what?
NOOOO, means do more planes don't make this the first and last plane@@bill45colt
As a car guy who fly's for a living, review all the airplanes you can. I'll watch every one of them. I'm hoping to still be alive at 103, much less still be able to fly.
God bless him!
LOVE IT !!!!! The perfect plane to launch "Curious Planes" !!! A super classic Cessna 170A! Good job, Bill !!! Keep it up ! Mooneys, DC3s ! The sky is the limit ! The world is your oyster ! And stay tuned for even more adventure with Bill's new channel, Curious Boats !!! (Donzi, baby!!!)
Hopefully he'll add curious🚂
Whether you learned it for the video or just know it from experience over time it's interesting to know that you're as thorough in your knowledge with everything you do a video about.
That was very cool, Bill! Thank you for risking your life for our entertainment! 😂. I generally like my feet planted firmly on the ground at all times and try to avoid flying even new commercial planes of today! I can’t imagine what a rush that was! It had to be intimidating, intense, and a little scary given how loud and although very neat and fascinating, how antiquated it all looked! And yes, including the pilot! 😂
I could hear Bill thinking "for the love of God" as that rig touched down. LMAO RUGER
You're the American James May, you have that niche skill of reviewing anything! And making it interested!
James may is a pilot himself
Bill can review the hell outta anything!
Next up, Bill reviews a Tesla rocket!
A beauty. Well done review from a non pilot. I’ll let you know when I sell my Cherokee.
Even if you don’t sell it, it would be a fun review! Bill could sell Manure to a Dairy Farmer!
What a curious car! 😜
EXCELLENT! I love airplanes so PLEASE keep doing airplane reviews!
more MIGS
This is Great Bill! I don't fly - but watching this I imagined I could.
Was a nice change of pace. Reminded me of my childhood and my father's old plane, his one escape from the 7 kids. Waiting for a classic speed boat video next.
the old mans shakey hand would be too much for my anxiety to handle lol .
I remember riding in the back seat of one of these in the mid '80s with my sister when we kids -I had so much adrenaline going from the short tour we did around Milwaukee -that I threw up in one of the barf bags the guy had on board -just as we were landing too! Great memory grossing my sister out 🙂 The flight was even a blast!!! Awesome review Bill -good job on the camera work too -puts the viewer right in the cockpit!
I never knew they made a 170 tail dragger
Always thought the 172 was it.
Beautiful polished aluminum
Yep, the little brother of the C-185 Skywagon!
You should see the 180!!!
Excellent more of this please Bill. trains planes and automobiles and the ode British and American motorcycles . I think I will watch this again there is nothing on TV.
omg thats so cool!! You could review all kinds of stuff Bill. Id watch it all!
What a great airplane review. Fantastic explanation of the cockpit controls and the airplane itself. Nice history of Cessna and the characteristics of the 170. As a pilot, I can say you did an excellent job, very thorough and knowledge with your usual sense of humor. If anyone I know is interested in learning to fly, I will recommend this video to them.
Luckily their were no birds that you had to evade on your flight. Maybe they knew you were packing. Great job!
Beautiful plane. Had a 170A years ago. Wish I'd never let it go. Still love the sound of that six cylinder.
You need to do another Curious Airplanes...and do a 747
"Goatflask to tower, requesting flyby."
"Negative, Goatflask, pattern is full."
Re: the ashtrays, wouldn't recommend usage of the front ones in the air. My first flight instructor, also an A&P aircraft mechanic, had me help him remove the interior trim on a Cessna 172 (to prepare it for its annual inspection). Directly behind the ashtrays is the fuel line from the wing to the fuel selector 😂
Time for Bill to start a new channel called Curious Planes
Peculiar Planes
Curious Kites
Jus knew Bill would be excited about the ashtrays.
What a FUN video, don’t make it your last. Enjoyed
You were already my favorite UA-cam Channel. Adding plane reviews is just the icing on the cake. Absolutely love aviation please review more planes.
Curious planes... My new favourite channel. 😎
This is the most enjoyable video I've seen that you have ever done. Good job!
Do another unique airplane! As a pilot, I give your review a B+ 😂 Your sarcastic, dry, gruff sense of humor AND airplanes is something I never thought I would be able to experience 😂 I'd love to see it at least one more time!!!
Wonderful 👍. My father learnt to fly in a air coupe. His first was an Auster. He then bought a de Havilland chipmunk and kept it at Biggin Hill. He had others but he said the chipmunk was the most fun. My mother eventually grounded him, partly the cost, and partly because they had six children. Dennis Pritchard, ex RAF and retired accountant. Wonderful video Bill.
a new career path for Bill
I soloed at age 16 flying a Cessna 150 Aerobat. But never found the time or money to finnish the full flying course and aquire my private Pilots license. I did rent a plane from time to time and go up by myself or solo a Piper Trypacer and a Cessna 172 all the way up to my 18th birthday, but after I got hired by General motors in 1977 I lost interest in flying and moved on to fast cars, fast boats, and fast women and never looked back. Great video.
Do more plane reviews. Lots of them are vintage and old school construction and electronics. Some of us are also pilots I have many hours in Cessnas both tail wheel and trike. Love it. Perfect lighting in the morning sun. Good job! Almost always a vintage car stored in hangers here and there. They go with the planes very well.
Curious Planes - the second channel?
Well done Bill! Brought back childhood memories, Dad's 1st plane was Piper taildragger in 60's b4 owning twins (Aztec, 310, Navajo(P)).Glad no bird strikes!
I got to fly in a 1940s model 170 tail dragger and it was a blast! No frills but it got the job done!
I hope its not the last review of a plane this was cool 👍
You're taking your channel to ne heights Bill!!!!
Great video, Bill! Even the chipper Canadians came onboard! Lol
I'm thinking a vintage WWII tank would make for another memorable review!
Handing the pilot a coffee would be like handing a coffee to someone operating a jackhammer.
This video needs to be linked from AOPA's site! Love the history you provide and callouts to SPG Airport (Whitted) and general aviation in particular - great video!!!! PLEASE don't make this your LAST aircraft review!! 🛩
Beautiful plane, love the aluminum like the older AA.
The Lindbergh uncle ?!? Bill's singular sense of humor strikes again.
Bill the Aviator - good job
what can I say :))) thanks again Bill, your videos are always so much appreciated !
Just watch out for those birds, they'll really gonna be after you now 🐦
I grew up in St Pete, pretty cool getting to see it from the sky. Now I live in the north ga mountains where it was 54 degrees out this morning.
This was a nice review, bill. Cars might be my main love and interest, but all things mechanical are pretty neat to learn about.
How’s the motorcycling up there?
@@yopacific I don't ride personally but you see a lot of motorcycles running around, especially this time of year. People seem to enjoy it
There ya go Buddy! And the weather is good? oh never mind. ;)
Great looking plane. I also like the Taildragger version better than the nose-wheel 172s.
That navigation instrument under the throttle lever is a "Course Deviation Indicator (CDI)". This is the instrument that makes this plane IFR capable, which is Instrument Flight Rated, as opposed to Visual Flight Rated. When you use your NAV radio to dial into the freq. of a directional radio beacon, you set a desired course direction to/from that beacon on the CDI, and the vertical line will move Left or Right to indicate your deviation from that course. What that means is, if you want to fly on a 120 degree course towards the beacon, you dial that in, and then keep a heading that makes the vertical line stay in the center of the dial. The horizontal line works the same way, but it's intended to work in conjunction with a runway beacon that guides you vertically down the proper descent path (glide-slope) to touchdown, so you can safely descend & land when weather prevents you from seeing the runway very well for most of your approach.
That’s very interesting
@@jeffsanders7691 Yes it is! It's old tech, as most IFR pilots go by GPS instrument and/or have an iPad in their cockpit. However, most of the US still has radio beacon coverage for redundancy. I do flight sim and am currently doing a US state capital tour only using these radio beacons to navigate to my next stop.
MORE! Great video Bill
Wow how crazy is this but just a couple of weeks ago I said to myself that Bill should do a review on an airplane and I started to put it in the comments on his last car review video
He does skim through the comments, however only replying to 2 or 3 generally.
Excellent flight footage! I'm envious!
Wow, I've been in a 170 several times, and that's exactly how I remembered riding in it. Thanks for the memories, I miss those days.
Really good video Bill. I totally enjoyed that.
Very cool video Bill. A lot of balls going up in that thing
One of the coolest vehicles you’ve reviewed to date, Bill!
Beautiful classic aircraft. Loved your review, Bill. Any of your viewers, like myself, love airplanes as much as vintage cars. Well done!
That was an awesome video, Bill. Beautiful flight footage, too. Ive never been up close to a Cessna but watching this vid was almost like being there. Don’t know why, but the takeoff brought a tear to my eye. It seemed so effortless.
Don't know how I missed this, but it's great to see. You're a quick study.. great job 👍
I love this change of pace, Bill. Some of my favorite articles in Car and Driver were about whacky vehicles.
Cool pilot 😎
This was awesome! My grandad was a pilot his entire adult life, and my old man grew up flying around in planes of this vintage as a kid during the 60s. Pretty wild to see the cheer amount of switchgear and such required to just get the thing in the air. I have a newfound respect for small aircraft pilots.
I know nothing about planes. Very interesting video Bill. Great stuff 👍👍
Good effort, Bill.
Pleasant surprise :) Love this channel
So Cool Bill, this is Awesome. !!!!
Holy crap! Too cool!
Great show
Hi Bill hope you are keeping well and flying around under the influence of Anti Soviet whiskey.
Bill, what are friends for. Love your sense humor!
It is a 1951. From the outside it looks mint. They really took great care of it. It is a beauty.
Great video Bill, can we have more please.
This Plane is In Amazing Shape for it being a 1950s model
A truly excellent review!!
fun! Nice work Bill!
Great Cessna and something different. Thanks Bill!
"Same time tomorrow, Mrs Bell?"
To be honest, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this video anywhere near as much as I normally do, BUT I DID!! I love this plane and Cessnas. What a perfect design to get so many people their wings. I don't think Bill had to do too much homework for this; it sounds like he knows a decent amount about planes. I had Smuggler's Blues in my head for much of the flight.
Wait a minute... Now Bill is reviewing airplanes, and he’s ok with the weather? Did I slip into an alternate dimension!?
Do another Bill. This was fantastic!
We present to you our new channel, Curious Planes.
Very temporarily
Rumor has it Dalton got a job at this airport detailing windshields, tire changes and fuel refilling
Great video Bill
I love the polished aluminum!
Great video 👍🏻
This is awesome! Besides to car enthusiast, now you have aircraft enthusiast here!
I really enjoyed the plane review!
Thankyou.Bill
This was a fun video. Reminds me of when I learned to fly (Piper Tomahawk & C-152). Hopefully Bill had a post-flight beverage there at the airfield!
Totally awesome to see something that me being average worker never get to fly in plane thanks to you it was awesome
Bill, feel free to take the odd excursion into trains and planes. Your presentation is why I watch your channel.
Great commentary on the old fella flying! 😂 nice 170!
Bill reviews a plane and the weather is nice.
That was cool as hell! Thanks Bill!
Great video, as always! Your reviews are great, even if you reviewed a glass of water! 👏👏👏👏
I say, sure, branch out Bill ! regular airpiane reviews would be awesome!!
Very cool break-away !!
awesome stuff !
Very nice classic airplane. I'd love to fly it!
