Watch as Japan's NSO gets both MOTHER 3 and Rhythm Tengoku while the West gets the Finding Nemo licensed game or something
EDIT: I was half right. Japan got MOTHER 3, but no crappy licensed GBA games on the West's end.

However a Japanese version was published and eventually released in Japan on Wii U's Virtual Console
If they actually translated it and put it on the service, I guarantee that'll give the Expansion Pack service a decent boost in sales.
That's pretty much what they're going to do!

i'm reminded that an official EN release of Mother 3 would mostly like be handled by the infamous Nintendo Treehouse team, making me pray harder that it *doesn't* get butchered by their localization...
It would have to get at least a Teen rating then.
If anything, with how deranged Nintendo’s release schedule for ANY old game they have, it will most likely either be a limited time physical thing like that old Fire Emblem game, or a Japan-only NSO exclusive to piss everyone off.
They already have Custom Robo on the service.

I think putting the game on the nso untranslated would literally be worse than never getting it because yes TECHNICALLY we got it but like its not a tetris or puyo puyo its an rpg and what is rpgs most known for the story even tho the combat system for mother 3 is my fav it stills needs everything to work in tandem that means without the story why are u playing mother 3 at that point theres no reason to ever play it on nso if u dont speak japanese like people who havent played the fan translation might just yknow be happy for a tiny bit knowing they can legally play the game theyll put it down after less than an hour because they dont know wtf their supposed to do
So i just hope it gets translated if not ill still always have my fan made mother 3 fan translated english cartridge for the gba

There's no way an official translation will be better than Tomato's.
I personally think if Nintendo would do this they'd just ask Tomato for what they have. They already offered their work to Nintendo at one point iirc.

@@luna4164 Everyone though in the last few years that it was cancelled. But that was just Oddity development team's stupidity. They weren't posting news for few years, so it was expected from fans to think the project is cancelled
@@luna4164 I think it's just in a "when we get around to it" phase. They didn't ask for funding and I'm assuming they have regular jobs/lives so when/if they'll get around to finishing it is up in the air.

I'm happy with GBA finally being on the Switch. Although I am disappointed with the limited options to play. Hopefully, more games will be added soon especially Mother 3 and Densetsu no Stafy. I've been playing Earthbound and a little bit of Earthbound Beginnings although my heart will feel more complete once Mother 3 is out. 😌❤

I would like it if Nintendo just finished translating the Mother series. With Earthbound and Mother 1. Might as well finish it with 3.
Sadly I really don’t think they’d do it at all. So I see it only appearing in the Japanese version of the app.
I feel the same way about the Shining Force Gaiden trilogy. What sucks is that trilogy is canon and takes place between Shining Force 1 and 2.
The bit about Nintendo being too proud to accept a fan translation reminds me of something I read almost 2 decades ago in Nintendo Power.
Someone wrote in asking how to go about sending their work in progress game to Nintendo, to which they were informed that Nintendo has a policy forbidding such things, that Nintendo could have literal gaming perfection handed to them for free and company policy would reject it on principle because they do not accept official work from random people under any circumstances unless they reached out to you.
Of course a lot could've changed since then but I think it's worth noting that Nintendo did have an official policy that would auto reject any fan translation at one point.

I played an english translated version of mother 3 on my GB SP althoughvi would love to see an oficial translation.
I would be ecstatic to see this, and considering we got Banjo and Goldeneye for N64, it's definitely plausible. Clyde Mandelin has stated in the past that his team's translation/localization of MOTHER 3 is very much available for Nintendo to buy the rights to, and that would be the easiest way to do it. But yeah Nintendo gonna do Nintendo shit. Though, using the fan translation and properly crediting them would do a WORLD of good in repairing Nintendo's image and their relationship with their fans they've done nothing but shaft for years.
If Mother 3 ever gets localized, I hope that it keeps the name Mother 3, at the very least as a subtitle. Everyone knows it as Mother 3 and naming it anything other than Mother 3 would just not sit well with me. I mean, the love from your mother is one of the main recurring motifs in Mother 3 and renaming EarthBound 2 or something like that would minimize that emphasis. Also, I would like translation efforts to make the story a little more well-suited for a western audience, while also just making overall narrative adjustments if possible. I mean, Mother 3 is cool and all, but I feel as if it could do more to give purpose to some of it’s motifs and messages, while also expanding its world and making the world feel more realistic. I feel like that part of the game may have been lost between the transition from N64 and GBA, but now is a chance to redeem that part of the game. I mean, I know this won’t happen, but I can dream, yeah?
Yeah but it'll be confusing for most people who don't know that Earthbound is actually Mother 2. Well they can't call it Earthbound 64 since it isn't the N64 version they were working on..... Earthbound Advance? lol

The day Nintendo releases Mother 3 is the day all hell breaks loose in the company, if they release Mother 3 anything is fair game.
We aren't getting Binding Blade, we sure as hell aren't getting Mother 3.
I'm still extremely annoyed that Fire Emblem 1 was delisted. ...I've been waiting for years and years for the first six FE games to get localisations. And when out of nowhere it actually happens for one of them, ... it's there for a couple of months only... ??? I have no idea what Nintendo's thinking sometimes.
It’s NEVER going to happen Mother 3 being localized has as much chance as pigs flying.
As much as I’d love to see mother 3 get fully translated on the switch online service I too doubt that it’ll happen.
The only reason games like Puyo Puyo and Mario’s Picross came to SNES online was because they’re super easy to play with 0 instruction from the game and if they do need instruction all you need to do is look up a tutorial rather than a fully translated script for the game.
Nintendo also has a habit of releasing completely different (and much better) games on Japanese NSO. The same day we were told we were getting Kablooey, Claymates, and Jelly Boy they got Shin Megami Tensei, some cool beat ‘em up, and also kablooey.
People in the SMT community have been clamoring for an official translation of the original title and yet we got a spit in the face. This is made even sadder with the fact that not long after JP also got SMT If… on NSO
So as much as I’d love it I do agree that we’ll get nothing and in all likelihood it’ll be released on Japans NSO and we’ll get iSpy challenge or something.

People can literally just play the Japanese rom with the translation patch (which is now v1.3). Why is this so hard?
I really don’t see the plopping and untranslated version of the game in nso. Its one thing for a puzzle game like Puyo Puyo that you can easily play without understanding the text, but an rpg where it’s completely pointless to try to play without being able to read the language would be pointless. It would just be spiteful. I know Nintendo isn’t perfect but I don’t see them being that outright antagonistic to paying customers.
I know what you mean--I think releasing Japanese-only puzzle games or games with little text is fine as-is, but Reggie did say that they considered releasing MOTHER 3 in this way specifically...it didn't happen of course, so they probably knew better then and I hope Nintendo wouldn't be that clueless now 😅 I don't think they will go this route either, it's just another possibility I thought I'd bring up

Sadly that argument does not hold up in this day and age. Maybe when it first came out but Western audiences see worse content in a wrong Google search than the entirety of Mother 3.

There’s little excuse beyond Nintendo as a major company isn’t picking out these GBA releases based on criteria beyond what’s recognizable and sold relatively well. I’m not sure how they handle NSO in Japan so idk if they get different games but the significance of Mother 3 could be lost on them because the game released normally in their region meaning Japanese players have less incentive to ask for Mother 3 on Switch
I think it’s hilarious that mother 3 would cost too much oh please. The demand is there it was since the GBA days. Nintendo just left the fans out in the cold and now really they have no excuse, the costs would be repaid in no time since these subscriptions are recurring fees that fans keep paying. Yes there’s alot of games there now still waiting on DK64 which is promised. I don’t see how they got way more complicated games on NSO but once you bring up Mother 3 it’s impossible 😂 please stop with the shenanigans Nintendo.
Don't underestimate localization costs! These aren't fans doing it on their free time, they are employees that must be paid for every minute they work on the game. They'd need to put together a team of English to Japanese translators, native Japanese speakers fluent in English, programmers to insert the new English script into the ROM (which is much more difficult than it sounds), then play testers & debuggers to check that nothing broke in the process. They'd also need to work with Hobonichi & Itoi since he owns a share of the IP, which means lots of correspondence (emails, online meetings, in-person meetings w/ travel costs, etc.), and Itoi would very likely want to give a stamp of approval for the script. These are just some examples but there are so many hidden costs in a project like this and Nintendo knows it. Whatever that total amount comes to has to be considerably less than the amount of profit from new NSO + Expansion Pack subscriptions (that stay subscribed) as a result of localizing the game.

Considering the current company that Shigesato Itoi- AKA the creator of the Mother/EarthBound series- currently works for- already confirmed a couple of years ago that Mother 3 was indeed coming to North America along with a script book that complies the scripts for all 3 Mother/EarthBound games, it's 100% guaranteed to be finally coming to North America!

@@ThaneGaming Actually, they did! They announced that a Mother/EarthBound series script book was coming alongside "other announcements". The "other announcements" is where the localized version of Mother 3 will be a part of!
