Very helpful and easy to understand! Just resurrecting an old E732 with an SSD to give it some more life for ham radio service...

shane i cant stress this enough but with laptops since you took it apart id reccomend you tighten all the screws around the hinge assembly and put some lithium greese on the hinge , it helps with the lubrication of the hinge and also prevents the laptop from stapping in half , id also reccomend youd take off the heatsynk and blow all the junk dust out and change the heatsynk compound . other wise good work man

+Jack Frazer Thanks, great tips! If this machine had more use, absolutely great ideas to do. This one was just to sit in a corner sadly... not my machine but the owner wanted a backup - just in case :)

Thanks for the video-I easily added in 4GB RAM to my E732 (had 2GB originally-so now 6GB)

I have an HP HDX 16 model 1040EL.... Pretty beefy for it's time (still a good performer), but to even reach the fan and clean it you have to "TOTALLY" disassemble it, even the screen!!! I was gonna replace the thermal paste but I just give up when I did read the manual! This emachine notebook is a breeze instead!

+MasterControl90 Yikes! We had a "Pioneer" branded laptop, it was quite a few years ago now and the screen also had to come off to get to the internals... why! Just why!

Hi Shane, I know it's a long shot but have you a Super Magic Drive you are willing to part with, or any ideas where to find one. It is Genesis equivalent of the Wild Card, floppy disc back up unit. Thanks Kester.

Howdy, sadly I've never come across an SMD, however the folk on assemblergames.com might be able to help. Were they the ones with the built in battery that likes to leak all over the internal PCBs? I remember that being an issue for one type of floppy drive backup ROM copier, just can't remember which one :)

Do you know if it has a safety feature to cut the power when the casing of the notebook is opened?
If yes, do you know where the contacts for it can be found? Cause my emachines e732 suffers from random shutdowns and it's not dust / cpu overheating. I've cleaned it and replaced thermal paste. So I'm hoping it's this safety shutdown feature that's glitching because of dirty contacts or because they sit badly.

+Kefka You and me both! I thought they just did the beige boxes from way back when! Maybe the brand has been sold a few times since then? :)

Hello friend I wanted to customize my emachines by putting a video card and a ram and wanted to know if the motherboard of the d732 supports this type of customization

The Acer Aspire 5742 and brothers use that same case, BTW.

Why doesn't that surprise me? Must make repairs a lot easier. Are they all owned by the same parent company?

Acer bought eMachines, i think. Acer is higher "trim" than eMachines.

+Daniel Pinel are you trying to tell me that the eMachines is not a high tier machine with extreme processing power!?!

    • @DanielPinel
      @DanielPinel 8 років тому +1

+Shane McRetro It might be a high tier machine, but it isn't "extremely powerful". My i3 Acer has thermal problems, and it's slow.

$0.03 that it has a rotational hard drive and not solid state! I don't know how I'd live without one these days! :-D

+robot797 An old laptop? That's out of my league I'm afraid! Everything that's laptop typically has that terrible RoHS lead-free soldering and dies :(

God damn I'm spoiled with my Thinkpad. It takes me just one screw to get to my hard drive bay and 5 to access all my RAM (and doing so also give me access to my wifi card). It would take me about half the amount of time to do this stuff just because I'm not disassembling the entire underside of the machine. Jesus.

+gold lightning Exactly! A friend has an ASUS that's of similar design (i.e. sensible design!) It's almost like they want to make it hassle to get to the internals... not sure why, it's not a Mac or anything :P
