"There's no shortage of ugliness around us. No shortage of grief, of death, of destruction and there is no shortage of ugliness in our own hearts, of greed, selfishness, hate, but neither is there a shortage of beauty. Of things which should cause us to stand in awe and wonder, laughter, music, love, a sleeping child, a ship at sea. The spinning stars, the swirl of our finger tips. If there is darkness, there is also surely light."
Juan Guillen Man, you ROCK for writing this out. Thanks a bunch! Honestly, I couldn't have noticed at a more perfect moment - Been on my mind to write 'em down. Cheers!
In the end... All of those difficult, harsh, hard to handle things.... They lead to revolutions in our souls/who we are, and they result in something beautiful, in the end, isn't living really about learning to appreciate all of the experiences that got us there? Without that negative left that turns us away, would we have turned right?
I needed this song today. God used it to show me that no matter what I am going through, there is beauty all around me. I just have to look up and see it.
No matter what is going on with troubles in our lives we need to look past it and say "oh what beautiful things I see". Psalms 139:12 "Even the darkness hides nothing from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You."
guess I am late to the "party"...lol...but I am Soooo glad I got here!!! Everything happens for a reason, and for some reason This man speaks to my heart...
You can tell by the date posted that this is a hard time for the world to see any beautiful things. Your music found me, exactly when I needed it, I just just wanted to thank you for that.
His music used to get me through so many hard times. He spoke to whatever I was going through for so long. But now he has gone off the deep end, supporting ultra leftist views and ideals. Now he sings about so many things I cant relate with and that are contradicting to his former views. It is truly heartbreaking for me because his music was such a huge part of my life for 10 years. Thrice was my favorite band, there was none other like them. Now that they've veered from their original message, I don't have a favorite band. No one else has been so influential for me and helped me cope with life's hard times. I don't think any other band will ever fill that space for me. If only Dustin would come back around to his original message. I miss them so much.
Strip away the beliefs you don't agree with and just remember, he's a musician through and through, providing melodies and lyrics you can still relate to as a a listener. There's a freedom in being a music listener; you can allow your mind to interpret the lyrics and they almost become your own in a way. Otherwise, your bias will immediately expel what you hear as "ultra leftist". Just gravitate to the music you gravitate towards, whether or not you think it's politically biased or not - this is coming from a mid-western, mostly right leaning guy.
A brick in the wall doesn't need it either. For the ones interested in art and what he has to say and why he's singing the song it only adds to the experience. Maybe that requires a few more brain cells though, but hey ignorance is bliss. You know there's more songs then you could probably literally count that don't have a commentary. Yet you're watching this.

What are you saying right now the message is the same in thrice as it is hear just more subtle in thrice so you didn't notice

Some people let politics rule their lives
I used to like Dustin and Thrice. I still do, but I used to too.
"commentary"
Didn't need the commentary.
Maine Man I did
Then you don’t need the video. Buy the album or stream it. No one said you needed the commentary.

You can also just listen to the non-commentary version. If this is your way of seeking attention. My guy, sillyiously.
