Our only experience with it is here in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern US region: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ where the hardiness ratings are predominantly Zone 5 and warmer. In this region it performs really well, so while we are not able to provide exact guidance for your locality, we can tell you that it is rated as a zone 4 plant and therefore is likely to perform for you too, But, we hasten to add that it would be wise to check with your local garden centers (they will have a better understanding of your specific location and conditions), and if any doubt remains with exposure to wind driven desiccation, it would be a good idea to plant one or two "test" plants to gauge first.

It depends a lot on the pressures of deer population, the availability of alternative food sources and if deterent measures are in place (or not) but deer could browse on it - especially if the deer population is intense and there aren't any deterents in place. A hunngry deer herd with few other food sources available will try to eat almost anything that has caloric value

Thanks for asking a great question😄. A sport is a spontaneous alteration in the DNA, for no apparent reason part of a plant will sometimes throw a shoot bud or flower that is different from the rest. In this case a green colored evergreen produced a yellow colored shoot that Jakub noticed in Poland. It could be a variegated shoot, a red rose suddenly producing a white flower, a small compact, dwarf part or a tall, thin slender shoot etc. What is interesting is that it happens quite frequently and most of the time it goes unnoticed! Nursery people and knowledgeable gardeners know to watch for them. So, keep your eyes "peeled", there could be an exciting new variety 🌲🪴🌿🌺🌹🏵lurking somewhere in your garden! 😉💚 Btw, congratulations to your brother-in-law for picking a good plant. I live in zone 4…how easy will these get winter burn? The location I need to plant evergreens do get windy often throughout the year.

Does it need a lot of sun to keep the color?
It does color up best in sunny conditions, and will take on more of lime green shades in shadier spots. 🙂
