I already know all of this, because I watched countless hours of training video and I have been golfing for 53 years and yes I never improve. It is all about consistency getting the club precisely in the back side of the ball. I will hit maybe 10 or 15 perfect contact shots then all of a sudden I hit a chunk or a scull shot out of the blue. No amount of training can stop this except practice practice practice.
I read your book and have been slowly moving my swing more vertical. And rotating the way you teach. In my 70's now so I don't hit it far. One big area of improvement that I have been working on this past year is chipping. My chipping has really improved and proximity to the hole means more made putts. I think we have to take areas of improvement that our bodies make a bit easier as small victories. This fall or winter, I want to get fit as I believe I need a 5 or 9 wood and a couple more hybirds and fewer irons. Time will tell.
Great, hope you are learning and seeing progress in your game. We have a group that meets twice per month and we discuss and cover the Vertical Line Swing System. If you are interested in joining, go to www.vlscoaching.com
I peaked several years ago, which was really a treat for me. Nearly scratch every round. Today, though, my game has fallen some. I'm okay with it. I still love a round of golf.
Same here. I’ve played under par on some challenging courses in my life. But that’s 30 years ago. Yesterday I was happy to get three pars on a 9 hole course. I nonetheless was very happy with my 3,5 woods (actual persimmon wood) and 3,4 irons yesterday, and the pars occurred on the final three holes. So I’m doing 18 tomorrow. Let’s see how it goes
Thank you so much for the presentation of your excellent video it is much appreciated In South Africa i have learnt a lot from you And another point that helps me a lot is to practice keeping the head behind the ball until or just after impact one needs to practice this and after impact the head follows into the follow through Your video's and the head behind the ball at least makes my contact a lot better Thank you very much for your hard work and insight into the golf swing Best wishes arnie
I would take Todd’s swing any day of the week. My problem is fighting the urge to lead the downswing with the shoulders. Wicked pull hook. If I could get the arms to drop in the slot without my right shoulder lunging at the ball I think my long game would be fixed.
A few years back I tore all the muscles loose from my left rotator cuff. I wasn't allowed to pick up a golf club for over a year. After that much time I forgot a lot about how to swing a golf club. I took lessons and every time the instructor never told where to put the ball, how to swing each club, how to hold the club, nothing. Every instructor told me the same thing and I've seen 4 different instructors. Hit the pw, hit the 9 iron, all the way up to driver and not once how. They just got paid. So now I put every ball in the center of my stance and swing the club. Don't know what distance I hit a club but I still play and haven't been able to find an instructor who cares
That's certainly a raw deal you had with instructors. I ripped my right rotator last November and it hurt like hell for a while. Gave it a try out a few weeks ago and did better than expected though felt restricted in the back swing. Stung a bit on the thru swing as I slightly exaggerate staying down for better strikes. Only short irons since coming back but got to start somewhere.
I started playing late in life and discovered that golf is not an easy game to learn, that’s why the pros start playing when they are young. There is so much to learn and remember, and you need to play a lot if you want to get better.
As a 72 yo golfer, I can attest that myself and my senior friends aren't trying to improve! We get out here to enjoy the fresh air and exercise, not to improve our game. Sheesh!
At 50+ a player CAN improve but it takes effort away from the course. One needs to get in the gym, use light weights with many reps, and stay toned. Our biggest loss at 50+ is muscle mass but with constant maintenance this can be minimized.
@USGOLFTVshow I'm gonna be re studying your philosophy. My pga buddy cringes if I swing the club up. Lol. He wants me like Ben hogan. I just need something a bit more consistent. I appreciate the videos. Plus I'm.a bit experienced lol

Another one of this guy's videos that could have been done in 60 seconds.
Looks the same as any other golf swing.
The 3 things are one thing, the aging process.
