I ate a banana before I went to solo and Ensemble today (so did my mom who was accompanying me) and we were both calm and not all that stressed and nervous when we went in. So it does work.
Loved this video. I made top band at all district auditions and got sent to round two for all state, and as a freshman, I am scared and clueless but excited lmao. This made me feel better. Thanks!
I used every single preparation tip in this video and it helped me to make first band first chair at my all-region audition. The banana trick actually worked and I didn’t feel nervous before my audition at all. Thank you so much! UPDATE FEB 3rd: I MADE ALL STATE‼️2nd band 2nd chair in the state
Great video. Very good advice that would help anyone! If you put in the work and PREPARE with consistent and careful practice, odds are good that you will do fine. But whatever happens at that point, walk out of the room with your HEAD UP. You have done your best, and that is what matters the most!
+Md Zalien meh. It'll get there. Thanks for subscribing :) it's not so much about subs as it is that I want to share what I know to help out others! Stick around, I'm glad you're here!
The Clarinet Slayer i was just worried that some day you might just quit because you arent getting views. your tips are really helpful so i really appreciate you wanting to share. :)
probably the biggest thing for me right now is having a busy schedule, but it will be less busy by next week. and by the way, that flute player with a butterfly on her face was my coach for a woodwind quintet i was in. her name is yuki and that was a competition in denmark i believe.
Ive made all state on bass clarinet, but I really barely slipped in there. I live in Georgia, so 4 were accepted in each of 2 bands. Now I thought I completely bombed my audition. My lyrical etude was the best overall that I ever played it and I honestly dont know what I could have done better. However, I basically completely messed up the technical etude and I dont think you could even follow my 2 sight readings. I think i played the wrong notes, rhythms and dynamics on each, but I played them. I also corrected myself multiple times, which is a terrible for auditions (based on my first district audition). Originally, I was told I got first alternate, which is considered great, but I was unhappy because I viewed it as i was barely not good enough to get in. Then someone quit and my director was just like "ok, your going now!" Just the thought of canceling going to Allstate after being accepted seems impossible. I barely slipped in, but I'll take it and I really enjoyed the experience and hope to make it again!
I have my all state audition on the 17th, I’m terrified. I’m in 8th grade this is my first audition for anything ever. I’ve prepared everything well in my opinion. The only thing I’m worried for is sight reading and the chromatic scale (I play flute it’s from C4 to C7). But I’ve been practicing for months and everything is as prepared as I could be.
@@TheClarinetSlayer it went pretty well. Not perfect but that’s to be expected I was also super nervous and it was 8 AM so yeah :) I will let you know if and when I get the results back
Hey! So. I’m auditioning for all state, and all of this really helps. It’s in a week! I have rly practiced my scales a lot. Going up to tempo and everything. I feel like I’ll do good on my scales. My etude is pretty good I think. I’m going to work more on my dynamics like you said. However, I feel like I kind of pushed sight reading to the side. I’m kind of freaking out bc I rly can’t sight reading that well. If you have any tips for my situation that would be great!
I have a full sight reading video that I’ve done in the past!! You have plenty of time! And don’t “think” your etude is good, KNOW your etude is good. Even if it’s not, play it like it is. Confidence!! Best of luck, and practice hard and let me know how it goes :)
+Juan Jimenez all clarinets...a little sax...but that's basically it. There was a time when I tried to learn bass guitar. And ocarina. And harmonica. But mainly I just stick to the claris.
The Clarinet Slayer I don't know why you wanted to play bass but ok lol. But playing sax is really easy but it's really hard to master. I only play Alto sax so I have no idea what it's like to play tenor and baritone. Or even a contrabass
+Juan Jimenez I played tenor for a while...but it was really hard to get the low notes to speak (I feel like my clarinet embouchure was just too strong). And I wanted to play bass so I could start a rock band. I was in high school and wanted to be cool, okay? 😂
The Clarinet Slayer story time for another video?! Lol jk but seriously, I've heard that you have to play harder for lower woodwind instruments. Bigger reeds and mouth piece means you might have to change your posture for tenor and lower.
I find that getting used to playing in from of people can help with physical nervous symptoms. Even I sometimes shake a little if I feel unprepared, but the more you play in front of people, the more prepared you’ll feel. If you show up with lots of confidence (even if it’s pretend confidence) that will help too.
Im a 10th grade percussionist and it's my 4th year doing all state and what ive gained from it is sightreading is probably the most important factor for me. If you struggle with sightreading my band conductor uses sightreading factory.com and its excellent for generating random bars of music.

Kami Lee That’s what my band director told us to do!
For anyone reading this: bananas freakin work man

haha i understand that! I was a freshman who missed by 25 points... :( how'd you do!!
@@rebeccamurray5604 25 points? Try 67 for size 😂 It's okay though because I know what it will be like next time.

+Md Zalien that's kind, but no I don't think I'll ever quit. It's just a fun side project! Do you play clarinet?

Maybe someday I'll try the clarinet just for fun
Me, a trombone player, walks into the audition room.
Also me: I AM THE BEST CLARINET PLAYER
