In Assam, a battered road leads to border Gorkha village with little to survive on

In Assam, the Bodoland region has limped back to normalcy after three decades of violence, insurgency and conflict over demand for an independent nation. Locals say peace returned after the 2020 Bodo accord - a pact between the central government, Assam government and Bodo groups.
A string of startups, a push for sports, and employment are reviving the region. But the border towns still remain in the clutches of their past with dilapidated roads and dismal medical, water and educational facilities.
Traversing the far regions of Assam, EastMojo’s Karma Paljor hit the Gorkha village of Saralpara, which is flanked by several Adivasi and Bodo villages. Locals told him that the only road to their village hasn’t been repaired in decades, citing forest NOCs and a lack of central government funds or budgets.
The village, which is only powered by solar panels, faces a power crisis during extreme weather. It has a primary school with two teachers for a strength of 80 students, and a health centre with one nurse to cater to over 12,000 people. Water resources are also scarce in the village.
The situation worsens during monsoons, with no power, poor connectivity of roads, and a lack of medical facilities.

if not the indigenous communities such as the Bodo's, Koches, Rabha etc then who else will claim this land here the refugees? Most of the Nepali settlers in Saralpara have come from Bhutan and settled, its not like they were Indian citizens since Independence. There's no grudge against Nepalese who are genuinely settled and citizens of this country. Please don't narrate it as if the Bodo's have no right at all.

Not just in bodoland the nepali people have been flooded in many tribal lands in assam and other northeastern states. And in many places they started laying claim upon the indigenous peoples lands. Not hating against nepali people but any large scale migration is harmful to the indigenous tribal people.

@@lachithazarika1142 its vote bank politics bro. Those illegal nepalis have grown so comfortable in assam so that now they dare to even demand the st status. Imagine such a large scale population of nepali people are given st status then what will happen of the small indigenous tribes of assam.

Congress never bothered Boro people out there and also to tribal communities. So they turned into BJP. BJP gave them BTR. Now they have peace. They should given a separate State. Any government that supports and gives them a state they will turn to that government. They had been asking for statehood and for their language for decades now. Which turned them into extremism. They are peaceful people and demanding for their rights and identity. The government should give them their rights. Congress needs to realize that. They have regional parties, they will go with any government that supports them. By the way, Newslaundry don't try to say Bodo claims it's their land... It is their land. Other adivasis and Nepalis were taken from bordering Nepal and Jharkhand to those places for the tea plantations by the Britishers. And everyone knows about Bangladeshi immigration. It was all Bodos territory. They had kings all over. Coochvihar Rajbari, Dimapur, and other places they have evidence.

Do u think gorkha r in bhutan from before they r in bengal 😂. They first settled from east nepal , darjeeling hills of Sikkim to doars partially excluded territory by british n migrated to bhutan. When doars became part of bengal in 1956 after british left the area they became part of bengal unlike crores of bangladeshi refugee settled after formation of UNO recognised country. Regrading settled from bhutan , few thousand settled in bodoland but not bengal as bengal govt was not welcoming to them unlike to Bangladeshi hindu n muslim refugee. most of remaining settled in east nepal n when nepal could not give citizenship as they were not born in Nepal but bhutan , Christian countries usa , Australia took as refugee. Donot blabber anything without knowing. Read UNO report.

The Nepalese community have been termed as settlers in Assam, but in reality it is not so. The Nepalese community in Assam have been residing since before 1947. During the year 1943, a delegation of Nepali community from Assam met Dambarsingh Gurung of Kalimpong, the then representative of the Nepali community in the Indian parliament. One of the things they raised was the lack of education facilities for the Nepali community in Assam. Then Assam was under the muslim league government. It is disheartening to see such deplorable condition of a community who've been residing in Assam since before the Independence.

Subtle instigation in the pretext of peace is a new low for a respected journalist. Kindly, realise the history of the Bodo people for the last 2000 years and then make a statement on whether it is simply a "claim over the land or a matter of historical fact". The Bodo accords accommodate the squatters in this reserved region despite their coercive settlement. And here we have questioned the authorities for not paying attention to those who have settled in a sensitive zone which normally would not have been encouraged by any sensible being.
Please refrain from making bogus and unresearched content because of personal feelings.
