- Paper Magic Gameplay is finally on the channel! Magic: the Gathering have brought out some great challenger decks to get people into the standard format at a low cost price. Today we take two of these decks for run and see how they perform! Get ready for Vehicle Rush v Hazoret Aggro - who do you think will come out on top?

21:34, your thopter should have lived for blocking bomat. Bomat's ability requires sacrifice. So that means you block it, but before combat it kill itself so your thopter didn't take damage.
Yea, some minor mistakes were made, but in all honesty it wouldn't have changed the result ^^
Yeah, I agree, that hazoret deck was just too quick. Mana too efficient. Card quality too strong =P

Hey guys as a newer player to magic, this was a very good gameplay video and I was able to follow every move and take in everything well. Would like to see more like this in the future. Maybe even some different modern combinations? Thanks y’all. I bought the Hazoret Aggro yesterday as I already have a rakdos control deck with a hazoret and Chandra and it gave me the ability to swing them both in either full mono Aggro or with my rakdos control.

There will certainly be a variety of games and formats in the future too. Cube, modern, standard maybe even some 1v1 commander!
That is probably THE deck to buy just for those staples at a cheaper cost. Chandra being a modern staple too means rotation won't tank the price either. Definitely a great addition for you there :)

I'm a new player to magic, these videos were brilliant. Both in content and execution. I picked up the second Sun control deck and haven't looked back since... Please please do more of these with the same level of explanation. It'd really hard to find mtg videos that don't assume you know the game inside out. But at the same time it wasn't too slow once explained. Honestly just perfect.

I'm glad you found that useful - it was something we discussed beforehand and I think in future iterations we may well be able to streamline the process. But it was good to see what these products offered in the sideboard for new/existing players.
This is a nice under the radar mtg channel.
I picked up both of these decks. I like both of them, me being a person with few friends i see mostly at my lgs, I play these decks by myself, yup, having 2 different life totals. I have had different outcomes

They are good decks - are you planning any upgrades to them?
Life Begins At 20 definitely plan on upgrading the vehicle one, to give it a small chance to hold up against the aggro one
The sucky thing is no one at my lgs plays standard, it's all EDH (which I play too) but I enjoy standard too. I might have to drive 30 minutes out of my way to play the aggro one at an fnm
Ah that's a shame! Hopefully dominaria might bring players from your lgs into standard? Worst case a pre-release.

Glad I found you guys. I just started playing and I got a hazoret deck. I want to win but have fun and the guys at the shops just want to destroy me so now I might have a chance
It's a really great deck and gives you a chance, plus it wouldn't take much to really improve the deck either! Earthshaker khenra would be top of my list, then it's a case of more of the expensive cards like more hazorets, another glorybringer and Chandra. But I think just making sure you have a playset of earthshaker's would make a big difference over some of the creatures that should be in the sideboard at best. (Soul scar mage, harsh mentor)
Tips to upgrade the aggro deck with dominaria
This was a good video, one thing I didn't like was "In Response To Ahn" whenever someone says "In Response" to something it usually means it is still is on the stack, the proper wording would be "After Ahn Resolves"
Great video. I dont think it's a representative sample of Vehicle Rush. Game 1 it was starved. Game 2 flooded. Versus Hazoret hitting the curve in each play through. The only true comparison would be if they both hit the Curve. Now, people could argue that if a deck is constructed to make it harder to hit the Curve, that should be considered as well. But this play session doesn't really reveal that.
I perfectly understand that and this is a part of magic. What is will say is a mono red deck will pretty much overpower a multicoloured deck most of the time. The vehicle deck with a better mana base will perform a lot more consistently. That being said, can't account for the unfortunate circumstance of flooding or starvation without rigging the decks for these games.
Hopefully in the future when we do more gameplay videos of our own decks we don't get starved or flooded!
Agreed. That wasn't intended as a criticism of the video. More the unfortunate downside of attempting to draw conclusions from only two games. Still loved the video!
Awesome video! Just 2 comments:
1.-The interaction Soul-scar Mage + Magma Spray replaces the dmg with -1-1 counters so if a creature dies it won't be exiled.
2.- When the thopter blocked the Bomat and got sacrificed, no dmg applies so thopter survives.
Hope you don't take this as criticism just positive feedback :) keep up the brilliant work!

Glad also that you do game Play videos because actual play footage is What gives players good feedback (better than MTGO). If you ask me I would like to see a “How to make a block cube (like Kaladesh block for example) “ because I'm struggling with that a Lot haha. Anyway, keep up the Great quality videos!
Glad youve found the content useful! I've found the best way to make a block cube is to use the 4x each Common/2x each uncommon/1 rare/1mythic of each card in the set. This gives a realistic way to recreate the drafting experience. You may find you only need 3x of each common. Hope that's of some help.

It was a tad brutal being on the receiving end of that deck, with for me not much hope in beating it - like we said at the end, it's not far away from being fnm ready at all and certainly will sell out quickly!
damage does not stack anymore, you cannot sac the carrier and have it deal the damage to the thopter token.
Apologies for the mistake, we aren't perfect - I'm sure the result wouldn't have changed though!

Noob question - do the backs of the cards match the colors of the deck they are from? If so, can you not mix between decks without signalling what cards you're using?
We were using card sleeves so that they cards don't get damaged during play. You can in fact mix cards from each deck if you wanted to without your opponent knowing which ones they are. Every magic card has the same back on them.
Can anyone tell me what sleave are on the Vehicles deck??
Ultrapro eclipse sleeves I believe were used.
In game 2, Spire of Industry only provides mana of any color if you control an artifact, not if your opponent has an artifact in play.
I believe I had a thopter in play at the time when I used that ability for the land. It was the die i'm afraid at the time as the decks didn't come with any tokens.
I bought Vehicle Rush, should I have gone for Hazoret instead?
I wouldn't worry about that too much, out of the box hazoret just works, but with a couple upgrades the vehicle deck does some serious work. These games I was mana starved and then flooded so not necessarily the best examples of what the deck can do

Can someone tell me why is the back of the cards red and purple? I'm a complete noob ... obvious.
How can you upgrade it? The hazarot Deck?
Realistically I'd be looking at adding a playset of earthshaker khenra's. Maybe one or two more hazorets and if needed another glorybringer at the top end, but the khenra's and another hazoret would be the best upgrade to power this up.

It is really - but to get some players into the format at a low price point is pretty decent, plus some nice cards for other formats too - chandra, hazoret definitely stand out for that!

if you take the hazoret and chandra form teh mono red challenger deck, then throw the rest of that deck away, and put those two cards in to the vehicle rush deck, you win FNM
