Globalization is about the interconnectedness of people and businesses across the world that eventually leads to global cultural, political and economic integration. Globalization has accelerated since the 18th century due to advances in transportation and communication technology. The role of the nation-state in a global world is largely a regulatory one as the chief factor in global interdependence. While the domestic role of the nation-state remains largely unchanged, states that were previously isolated are now forced to engage with one another to set international commerce policies. Globalization has changed the role of the state in many ways: politically through interdependence and independence of states, socially through the problems and threats of terrorism and deadly diseases, technologically through the media and internet and economically through the change from national to global economies. Reasons for change in role of state: * Rise in interdependence * Rise in non - state actors * Increased use of internet * Technological advancement * Affecting the state role Thank you mam for this amazing lecture:)
Globalization is a non-stop economic process; individuals, companies or governments are always on the lookout for new processes or innovations and so the economic and power structure of the world is never stagnant. It is clear that in creation of innovations not only technology is important, but also people, culture and communication, etc. Under going globalization process the necessity to investigate global human resource development and its differences from domestic human resource development appears. The main aim of this chapter is to explore the context of globalization on human resource development in developing countries the case of African countries. As we enter a new millennium, the effects of internationalization now known as globalization are everywhere apparent. This has played a major role in sustaining the economic expansion of the global economy in the second half of the 20th century. Globalization is seemingly shrinking the planet as barriers to trade are dismantled, transport and communications costs fall, and global production systems are formed and managed by giant multinational corporations. Thank you!!
Thank you mam for this amazing lecture:) In the era of globalization, the functions of the State began undergoing a change. With the increasing disinvestment of public sector, privatization was encouraged. Public sector was made to compete with the private sector, and as a whole open competition, free trade, market economy and globalization were practiced. Thank you so much ma'am for the wonderful lecture Firstly, The central function of the nation state is that of distributing and rendering accountable powers of governance, upwards towards international agencies and trade blocs like the European Union, and downwards towards regional and other sub-national agencies of economic co-ordination and regulation. Coming to the context of globalisation, it has a large role to play.

Globalization is about the interconnectedness of people and businesses across the world that eventually leads to global cultural, political and economic integration. It is the ability to move and communicate easily with others all over the world in order to conduct business internationally.
You made it really easy to understand, thank you ma'am. The role of the nation-state in globalization is a complex one in part due to the varying definitions and shifting concepts of globalization. While it has been defined in many ways, globalization is generally recognized as the fading or complete disappearance of economic, social, and cultural borders between nation-states. Some scholars have theorized that nation-states, which are inherently divided by physical and economic boundaries, will be less relevant in a globalized world.

While the domestic role of the nation-state remains largely unchanged, states that were previously isolated are now forced to engage with one another to set international commerce policies.Thomas L. The role of the state has changed with the advance of globalisation and the focus has shifted to the ability of the state to strengthen its capacity to effectively manage in a changing and complex situation. The state’s role has changed from a hands-on management and direct deliverer of service and goods to facilitator of an enabling environment and framework for private sector participation. The economic role of the state has shifted to that of regulator of financial institutions to ensure fair competition and maintain safety and soundness of financial systems. It has been increasingly clear that the success of a country’s development programmes hinges on the country’s effective economic policies and good governance.

Globalization has changed the role of the state politically because of strengthened interstate relationships and dependence on one another. States were created to be sovereign but now, due to globalization, often give their sovereignty away to ‘pooling’ in conventions, contracting, coercion and imposition . This has led to increasingly similar jurisdictions across states and to power being seen as economic rather than political progress because states now make political progression and regression together, causing states to become more developmental .
