  • Sometimes fishing doesn't go the way you expect it to. The Surfside Jetty has been very difficult for me to pattern this season. Usually it's like clockwork, when the water temps reach a certain level the fish will be here. Using live shrimp as bait almost always pays dividends. That certainly hasn't been the case for me. Sometimes we all go through these bad stretches of fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast.

    I've skunked out on my last 2 trips, these winds are making it horrible conditions to wade fish. a bad day of fishing beats a good day of anything else. fish on Mark! 🤙

    Took the boat out to the Surfside Jetty the other day. Brutal 3-4 footers. Got around to the east side of the jetty I guess (the surfside side) barely. Got soaked. Used 2oz spoon, 3/4oz spoon and all I got was sandies on the 3/4oz. Windy and rough. WANT JACKS!

    W gas @ $4/gal. & the coast 45mi. away, & spring wind every day for months, I haven't even readied my gear this yr. These conditions are not unusual for spring . Typically it settles down in June & I expect to be ready by then. Drought conditions like we have had tend to favor surf fishing, bc. there is no muddy water coming down the rivers & it can be clear & fishable for weeks at a time. My best year surf fishing was 2011, a drought year & yes the water was very fishable mostly. Good luck/tight lines to all & we will see you down there soon.

    Watch the 2 most recent videos on my channel and see where the fishing hole is at the jetty. We fish in that section all the time and where you see the 1st white trash pipe. The very end was popping only once or twice when we were there because I walked down once and fished and always ask folks who come from the end. I know most folks want to catch a jack at very end and I tried once this year but they weren't there at time. Keep it going! 🐟 🎣

    Brother the wind has been terrible this spring. I like to jettie fish but when they won’t bite it sure takes the fun out of it. I enjoy your kayak fishing in the marsh more anyway. Good luck

    I'm using 40# leader as well but my little Joe slip cork keeps getting stuck at the uni to uni knot. Thinking about using smaller leader or learning to tie something different.

    • @MDLRFishing
      @MDLRFishing  2 роки тому +1

      For me the key is using 14+ feet of leader line.

    which is one of the reasons why I really enjoy your work and your channel because you post the actual realities of real life in what you do as your chosen vocation. And you’ve been a good influence on me in an indirect way, from the perspective of getting back into fishing. I mean, yah, true, I also enjoy viewing some of the “other” fishing youtube channels who only post their “good” trips and produce it all glossy and with an overwrought, ultra-light-hearted (too much imo lol) tone. But, fortunately, I had fished enough in my childhood to be able to recognize, pretty quickly, those channels, while entertaining, are not actually totally true to reality in their presentations. They’re more for just entertainment purposes. Anyways too long a comment their, but also again, yes! Thank you for posting the real, real reality of your daily vocation even if you don’t post each and every skunker! And of course also thanks for all the excellent instructionals and tips combined and complimented and cross-hatched with entertaining content and sly, dry quips now and then.

    thanks Mark for the video. I love the content you create. Even on the "bad days". I know this was a Jetty fishing video but I had a question about your old town autopilot setup. Do you run your depth finder off of the same battery as your minn kota? I just purchased one and was wondering if I need to buy a separate battery for the finder.

      I have a separate battery for it. 17.5 FPV power

    If it's a " bad day " cause you don't catch something then you need a new gig , IMHO . Just going to the water is a gift in its' self in my way of thinking . If I catch something , well that's just a bonus ! Some days are fishing and some days are catching , it all goes together in the long run. Great video Brother ! Just keep doing what you do ! Thumbs up from me !

  • @jr_fishing9287

    I think its good to show new anglers yoir not just going to go out there and whack em everytime. its called fishing not catching. and hopefully that helps new guys from getting discouraged knowing everyone has rough streaks

    Man is this wind ever going to lay down?! I took my boat out a couple days ago and fished East bay shoreline between pepper grove and stingaree coves. Had a couple of bites but nothing to write home about. Hooked into a big something in Big Pasture bayou but sadly my line broke. Damn zebra mussels from Lake Travis had my line all frayed up. Oh well tight lines!
