  • Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    If you enjoy checking out Bangkok and other SE Asia spots, consider subscribing. I'll continue to make videos showing the streets in Bangkok and beyond. Thailand is amazing and a great place to visit, work or retire. I'll do my best to show you how to live affordably in SE Asia. Plus, enjoy some great side trips from Bangkok.

    Hi, I enjoy your channel, but it appears I'm not able to like comments from my television, which seems odd. I can give a thumbs up for the video, but I can only access comments through my cellphone very strange. I say this because I'm curious if you may have experienced this, anyway, thanks.

    Why's everything called Charlie Brown's 😂And is Lucy gonna yank the football? Would love to go back to Thailand in the next year although probably not asoke. Generally had good luck negotiating rates in Thailand. Referenced the Tijuana videos when I visited several months back.

    Mr. Expat - how many miles do you walk everyday?

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 місяці тому

      I'm not sure. I used to be a mailman, so I can walk 5, 6, 7 miles before I get tired. Maybe more if it wasn't 95 or 100 degrees. Many of these videos, I'll walk for 3 or 4 hours and make three videos

    Hi,what your recommendation either 4 or 5 star hotels for family close to bts and shopping mall? Thanks in advance🙏🏻

      I'm not a 5 star hotel guy unless it's free on points. In that case the Bangkok Intercontinental near the Central World Mall is great. The Hyatt Erawan across the street is nice too

    how's the tax situation? how much does Thailand tax foreigner's income? is it a flat rate or progressive rate?

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 місяці тому +2

      Were not sure yet. There are tax treaties between Thailand and most countries. I'm not too worried about double tax. Who knows? Maybe well have to file a Thai tax form to show we paid tax in the US, etc.. But, it hasn't really happened yet. Or they haven't told us yet. I'll just roll with the flow

    I have watched almost every one you have made about your life in Bangkok. There is one thing that pisses me off and it is when you try to justify tuk tuk drivers, shop owners and cab drivers that deliberately overcharge tourist and also resident expats with the phrase , well they are just trying to earn a living, sorry but that is theft, illegal and if a expat did it the thai people would be pissed. Neverless I will continue watching but sometimes with the mute on. The Pataya seies was very interesting from your standpoint, being someone that doesn’t live there and in the bars as a regular.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 місяці тому +2

      I appreciate the comment, but when the average tuk tuk guy makes $500 US a month, I'm still fine paying $2 for a ride instead of the Thai price of $1. The Thai person who is paying $1 might also make 20k baht a month (or $700 US) My friend has her degree and works in banking security. That's the salary. I usually spend closer to 3K a month. So giving back an extra $1 is fine to me. The tuk tuk and taxis even try to "broken meter" the locals in the tourist areas of Asoke, etc.. It's not just the expats and visitors. Go to a national park in Thailand and you'll see Thai 20b, visitor 120b. That's just how it is. I understand some might feel there being cheated. I'm still paying $500 US for a condo that would be $3500 in the US. So I'm fine with the occasional broken meter near Soi Cowboy at 2am. The meter price should be 168b to On Nut. He might want 200b. Again, to me it's a very small "tax" to live in this great city. As far as calling it theft, I still stand by the guy is just trying to feed his family. Supply and demand. You can always jump on the local bus for 12b. Myself, if it's pouring rain and 2am, I just open the cab door and say 200b to On Nut? He says yes and off we go. I guess I can stand in the rain for 15 minutes and talk to 5 cab drivers before one will turn the meter on. But, the extra $1 dollar is way more important to him, than it is to me. But, I do understand what you are saying. I appreciate you watching, even with the voice turned down. To me Uber/Lyft is the real ripoff in the US. I took a girl to a concert in LA. It was $30 to arrive. After the concert every car was close to $200. People will gladly pay that to get out of Compton at 1am. Myself, I'll gladly pay the extra $1 to a hard working taxi guy. But, everyone has that choice to make

      @@EagerExpat Totally agree with your reasoning, Joe. For some who make or have more, sometimes just view it as giving. The gap between the haves and have-nots is ever so increasing, ESPECIALLY in Thailand. We can do our small part as individuals who can. Plus, those guys work hard and short of outright scamming you, view it as a tip anyways. Good video!
      Don

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  3 місяці тому +1

      @@donnguyen8443 Ya, I don't like telling anyone how to spend their money, but 40 or 60 baht here or there isn't that big a deal. I feel bad when I take a cab across town and the meter fare is 165 baht. We just sat in traffic for 40 minutes. I'm crazy enough to give the guy 300 baht. Nine out of ten guys wouldn't turn the meter on, the other guys would drive away when you asked to go to Thonburi, etc.. They can do 5 short rides from Nana Plaza to Cowboy and make 200b a ride. So, the extra tip isn't even what I'll spend on a pint that night. It might cover a few 7/11 Leo's for the guy who got me across town. I realize it's Thailand and I shouldn't compare it to California. I don't believe I am by tipping $1 or $2 at times. In San Diego an IPA might be $14. Leave $15 and you won't get served a second. Should they get a $6 tip? Probably not, but that's what many servers are looking for. Like you said, the little extra fee on a cab or tuk tuk is just a small tip to a hard working guy. Even my Thai friends understand if you order a cab in the Nana at midnight on a Friday, they will have every meter "broken." You don't want to deal with that, use Grab/Bolt.
