Today I want to talk to you about the crucial things you need to know before applying for pupillage. As someone who has navigated the challenging process of becoming a barrister, I've gathered valuable insights that can help you succeed in your own journey.
First and foremost, it's important to understand the reality of the bar industry. The statistics show a low success rate for obtaining pupillage, so it's essential to assess whether this path aligns with your goals and circumstances. I'll provide you with the facts and figures so you can make an informed decision.
To increase your chances of success, you must immerse yourself in the world of the bar. Understanding how barristers think is crucial for drafting a compelling application and impressing them during interviews. I'll share tips on how to showcase your barrister-like qualities and present yourself as the ideal candidate.
Moreover, knowing your "why" is fundamental. Discovering your motivation for pursuing a career at the bar will fuel your resilience and determination throughout the challenges you'll face. I'll guide you through self-reflection exercises to help you uncover your true purpose.
Rejection is inevitable on this journey, and it's essential to embrace it as a learning opportunity rather than letting it discourage you. I'll provide strategies to handle rejection, including how to seek feedback even when chambers may not readily offer it.
Building a strong network is another key aspect of your pupillage application. I'll show you how to connect with experienced individuals who can offer guidance, review your application, and conduct mock interviews. The support you receive from a well-established network can make a significant difference.
Lastly, I'll discuss the art of presenting yourself effectively. Pupillage applications require you to showcase your skills and experiences in a compelling manner. I'll provide creative strategies to make your application exciting and relevant, helping you capture the attention of chambers and secure pupillage.

Just wanted to say thanks for the great videos Taz. Am coming back into law after a 6 year hiatus with terrible grades in my youth. Taking the upcoming BPTC and its nerve-racking to figure out the steps to chasing an outstanding result after so long. What more pupilage after eh. Absolute inspiration your videos. Thank You.
