Upgrade components one at a time or all at once??

I dont know anything about PCs, you just have an amazing voice... and I say this in the least creepy way possible.

Last time, I upgraded to a 13900K from a 4770K. I had owned that 4770K for maybe two weeks after it came out. The only need I felt to upgrade was due to the rudimentary requirements of Windows 11. Windows 10 was working fine for me, but I didn't want to wait until the last minute to upgrade, and 11 was already mature enough to make the move. I know it's a much faster, better, etc. computer, but doing what I do with it, I don't notice much difference from my old 4770K. But I know it may last another 10 or 11 years before I feel I need to upgrade again. I got the flagship, so I don't feel the itch to upgrade anytime soon.

I understand that this is a sponsored video, but the 5800x3d is the ''Backwards compatible king'', if you ask me.
Just ordered mine and I'm gonna put it in my 5+ year old B350 board.

In terms of straight up going back several generations, absolutely. 5800X3D is a fantastic proposition. My argument here is more towards seeing this new age technology bleeding in with DDR5, Thread Director/Windows 11, PCIe gen 5. Some of these technologies could have been proprietary to integrate with this hybrid architecture from Intel, but I'm just happy to see support for last gen hardware as we're seeing all these new technologies becoming standardized/consumer grade

What do you end up doing with the older processors? I've had some projects that I could use really old ones for but I just upgraded to a 5800X3D and have a 3700x laying around.
Fortunately the plan was to get a living room PC/station for the rest of the family to use to store pictures and watch stuff on there but in the future I think it would be a bit more difficult to think of things to use old components for.

You nailed it on the head. That's exactly what I'm doing. Just set up a 'game room' living room area in the loft utilizing my 9900K and RX580 for an HTPC. I'll continue to upgrade it as I upgrade my personal PC. A couple other uses I would recommend would be a NAS/home server and also a Plex server for movies and shows. I could also see using a secondary PC for streaming to get all the streaming gear clutter away from the main setup. Just a couple ideas. If all else fails, I package it up and gift it to friends/family and local PC component shops.

So you said z series mother board. Could I upgrade a 8700k on a z370 motherboard for this new cpu

      You'd need a 6th or 7th gen board, so Z690/Z790, B660/B760, H670/H770

I’m trying to increase my performance for my laptop. I’m having trouble running steam games because of the fps and lag. I got a Dell Inspiron 5570 model. What parts do you recommend me to upgrade? Also having trouble trying to figure out what parts are compatible.
