Really nice breakdown. I have seen so many reactions and people just waffling off about Avowed but literally no analysis of the trailer or its content and they usually have also never played Pillars. Thanks for your work!
Thanks for making this breakdown video, it was the only one I could find, which is pretty sad. Like you said Pillars is largely underappreciated. I hope Avowed will be a huge success and change that. Quite a bit of negative feedback regarding the art style and graphics, to me it looks good, and graphics were never Obsidian's strength anyway. I assume the next trailer we will get will be more focused on characters and story. Overall super excited for this!!
I'm currently playing POE1 and I'm enjoying it. Really is a blast from the past since it's been ages since I've played a game in a similar vein. I hope games in that setting do well.
Thanks for helping to rekindle my interest in Avowed ! I'll admit I was a bit underwhelmed when I first saw the trailer, I think I just needed the reminder that I REALLY love the lore and music and storytelling of the world of Eora and once upon a time I was really into it. Guess I was just being a stupid postenago of a viewer :)
Loved both PoE games, they were kind of an introduction to CRPGs for me. I played through both games and all DLCs as a melee cipher, I hope I can do something similar in Avowed
Saw the trailer yesterday, and couldn't wait for this reaction. The game itself... looks a lot like Outer Worlds in various ways. Kinda janky movement and combat, the colorful areas others have pointed out. It doesn't shock me that Obsidian would lift a lot of their assets from OW. That said, there's nothing particularly wrong with that. I wasn't expecting Avowed to be the Skyrim clone everyone thinks (or wants) it to be. So, it is the Living Lands. IIRC, there's a big frontier vibe from it's description. Wild, mostly untamed. Not a lot of settlements compared to other continents. This lends itself to the wild stuff we see. And as for the plague, I'm wondering what we might see with who ... or what it's associated with. My gut suspicion is that Woedica will play a part in the mission we're sent on. Something about bringing Law and Order to an untamed land. Also, if this game is a sequel, and canonically Eothas got his way in PoE II, then I wonder if our big bad is The Beast of Winter. An entropic plague sprouting up? Hmmm Lovely video.
Thanks for the breakdown! When i saw the trailer drop I thought of this channel and the incoming astute analysis :) To be frank I was expecting a bit more polished art style and not so cartoony/goofy. I know its early and im looking forward to playing this game ... as a Bleak Walker.
Couple points I think you are misplaced on: I believe the unamed female compaion is Savannah folk and not Ocean; more the bronze of Xoti than the deep browns of Pallegina Also, the "undead with armor" appears to me to be more likely an Animat or Maegfolc, the latter of which are known to have built communities in The Living Lands.
I am really hopeful for this game. Disappointed it’s not going to be a massive open world game like new Vegas. But i love obsidians ability to write great stories and awesome RPG’s. Maybe the world type will be more like the Witcher 3 where they are sectioned areas?
Since we’re playing as Aedyrans it would be cool if we saw Aloth again (maybe back as a companion?). Also I wonder if you play as the watcher again in this game? Probably not but it’d be cool to some references to the watcher, considering the at there practically a celebrity by the end of PoE2.
I don't want to wave off the artstyle as goofy because the Pillars games had a lot of diversity zone to zone settingwise, I just hope they successfully create atmospheres the way the pillars games did that i found lacking in Outer Wiorlds.
Honestly I doubt they'll stray far from the roots. It's the same studio that even when they made the original Fallouts then a First Person Fallout that was the best of that era partly because ot felt the most like the originals. They have a good yrack record for consistency in that regard.
Honestly I got a huge Elder Scrolls IV vibe from Avowed? Weird I know but I kinda was expecting that when I was thinking of the living lands. Glad I was right. Though a shame at how almost limited it sounds the game is gonna be race/class wise.
Companions similar to outer worlds doesn't sound too great in my book. I found the Companions utterly useless in combat mostly boring to have with me & their storyline were just meh. If it wasn't for getting a bonus for having them with me I wouldn't had even bothered with them
Honestly I wish that you are rigth about everything. But for me it looks like Starfield from Obsidian same skill system same combat kind a booring combat. Bad dialog at least what I saw from the trailer. And it feels like it has nothing to do with poe1-2. I am not exited. I will wait like a half a year and let everyone else be the Guinea piglet for Obsidian.
Yea well, in my opinion it doesn't only look "almost goofy" it just looks full on goofy. A lot of the landscape looks interchangeable with Outer Worlds, and I have yet to see anyone praise the neon-vomit artstyle that dominated that game. Quite disappointing from a visual standpoint I have to say. And yes I've played both PoE games, the world of Eora looks nothing like this in either one of them.

I fear Eora will always be niche and never a household name, which is a bit of a shame.

I am not sure if Cipher abilities will even be a thing.
@@spellandshield imo that would be a huge mistake considering how important animancy is in the PoE universe, its their unique form of magic
Finally more content for you.
Great breakdown!
finally! someone do care about the game itself! thank you for this detailed breakdown !
Not really in the marketing phase yet
Nice breakdown as always! Crossing my fingers for avowed.
Knew you'd make a video on this!
Saw the trailer yesterday, and couldn't wait for this reaction.

Incredible breakdown, excited to follow along with your videos. I might have to replay the POE games if I can squeeze it in before release
I am certainly going to replay them.
I wonder if the fungus is lengrath
That would have been too much to reveal but yeah, mushrooms are powerful in Eora.
Great breakdown as always. 👌
interested in this 1 for sure.
Great stuff!
Another informative video!
finally some avowed news!
Love PoE very hyped for avowed. Hopefully we see a few familiar faces.
I wonder will we meet any members from the Circle of Archmagi. There is a different member watching over different areas of Eora.
The Circle Of Archmagi all inhabit different parts of the world, yes, so it is possible.
Couple points I think you are misplaced on:
I believe the unamed female compaion is Savannah folk and not Ocean; more the bronze of Xoti than the deep browns of Pallegina
Also, the "undead with armor" appears to me to be more likely an Animat or Maegfolc, the latter of which are known to have built communities in The Living Lands.
Look at her hair; she has the classic tight-knit African texture of hair, i.e. Ocean folk and on the 2nd point you might be right, could be an animat.
I am really hopeful for this game. Disappointed it’s not going to be a massive open world game like new Vegas. But i love obsidians ability to write great stories and awesome RPG’s.
Maybe the world type will be more like the Witcher 3 where they are sectioned areas?
Yeah unfortunately Bethesda treats obsidian like shit and after the success of new Vegas they give them 0 backing or funding.
Fantastic!
i thought the color palette being so bright is caused by that one god whose appearance are all eyes LOL
Since we’re playing as Aedyrans it would be cool if we saw Aloth again (maybe back as a companion?). Also I wonder if you play as the watcher again in this game? Probably not but it’d be cool to some references to the watcher, considering the at there practically a celebrity by the end of PoE2.
Nah they’ve already said it’s a new character completely, not even the same soul. I’m assuming canonically eothas broke the wheel
I don't want to wave off the artstyle as goofy because the Pillars games had a lot of diversity zone to zone settingwise, I just hope they successfully create atmospheres the way the pillars games did that i found lacking in Outer Wiorlds.
👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I thought the metal thing on the anvil might have been one of the Eyeless or another type of Maegfolc.
Certainly possible!
What’s the background music called?
Pillars of Eternity soundtrack. You can find it online.
Honestly I doubt they'll stray far from the roots. It's the same studio that even when they made the original Fallouts then a First Person Fallout that was the best of that era partly because ot felt the most like the originals.
They have a good yrack record for consistency in that regard.
Can't wait to play this game hope it has some light climbing/parkour lol probably not though
There a new Vidoe where the lady talks a little about it
Thaos and the leaden Key could actually be in this game and play a role this is something I think could be a tie to the poe game's
Hard to say; we still do not know if it is a prequel or sequel to POE.
Honestly I got a huge Elder Scrolls IV vibe from Avowed?
Weird I know but I kinda was expecting that when I was thinking of the living lands.
Glad I was right. Though a shame at how almost limited it sounds the game is gonna be race/class wise.
I will be making a follow up video later this week covering everything we know including the reasons why the races, etc are limited.
After the disappointment that is starfield i hope Obsidian will replace Bethesda in the spot of an RPG giant
Unlikely but it would be great if it happened.
Companions similar to outer worlds doesn't sound too great in my book. I found the Companions utterly useless in combat mostly boring to have with me & their storyline were just meh. If it wasn't for getting a bonus for having them with me I wouldn't had even bothered with them
I dont understand why people arnt excited for this 😂
Because they thought it would be Skyrim 2.0.
Honestly I wish that you are rigth about everything.
But for me it looks like Starfield from Obsidian same skill system same combat kind a booring combat. Bad dialog at least what I saw from the trailer. something about the graphics look meh to me

True. It is a departure from those games and I am a tad disappointed but I won't give up hope on this one quite yet.
I was so disappointed in the art style wanted more grim dark looks too cartoony
i really dont like this outer world look, it felt generic and cheap
