I'm also trying to reduce using any external fertilizers. Currently have 6 chooks so their (fresh) droppings are being used for a bit older trees. Otherwise I just use a liquid fish poo fertilizer to boost growth. For ants, I've found borax + sugar or yogurt to be very affective. They take the mixture back to their nests and spread around.
All I could focus on was the star apple growing next to the tub. One of the best looking fruit trees!
