Very interesting. I learned from this video. Thanks Mike. Could you please do a video on raw turquoise and what causes some to be chalky as opposed to a gem quality nugget?

From my understanding it is the amount of silica in rough turquoise that determines what is natural and what is chalk and requires treatment.

Hello Mike...I have 2 questions for you...1) I have been buying (on Etsy) from a dealer (M&S Turquoise) some high grade Bisbee, some high grade Kingman, some high grade Royston and some high grade Sleeping Beauty...All was half pound lots and in a 50% off short term sale...Seller stated all was old stock and stabilized..I paid average (at half off sale) $150 for the half pound...What type of stabilization do you think was done on this high grade (according to seller) turquoise?...Question 2: On Ebay, I bought a 130g piece of No. 8 from someone living in Battle Mountain, NV and who said her neighbor had worked at the mine a long time ago and gave her some pieces of No. 8...She said is wasn't stabilized...The piece is fairly heavy for its size so I'm guessing that means it is somewhat high grade...How can one tell (other than trial and error) if a piece of turquoise can be cut and polished without having been stabilized..Thanks
