Tons of great music this year, and it was a joy to listen to these albums alongside y'all. Best, most thoughtful fellow country fans I could ever wanna have in these comments!
My Top 5 Country Albums of 2020: 5: “Lamentations” - American Aquarium 4: “Sunday Drive” - Brett Eldredge 3: “Reunions” - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 2: “Honky Tonk Hell” - Gabe Lee 1: “Shape & Destroy” - Ruston Kelly
Hey Grady, I'm an exchange student from France and I'm spending one year in NJ. I discover country music, coming there and your channel at the same time. Keep going on, you make me love this universe and learn a lot about it.
I downloaded Tessy Lou Williams after your video.... And holy hell what a great album. This is truly what I miss in most modern Female Country Artists. Blown away.
Tessy lou williams album reminds me of the last 2 lee ann womack albums which were traditional old school country albums full of heartbreak and strong melodies. Midnight arms is my favorite song but every song is excellent
Don't abandon your critical, intellectual side! I think separating out the pretentious air of critic culture is the right path as opposed to crushing your intellectual and analytical side. That's what makes your channel so amazing. I don't even listen to country music but I love hearing you talk about it. It's all the details you notice; the attention to text, harmony, melody, presentation, industry insights and all the rest that elevates your video's. No offense to the rest of us normies (I am certainly one, I can't read music or play an instrument), I have no interest in listening to someone talk about music with the same level of knowledge I have. Keep up the awesome work!
This is my first time hearing your reviews, but now subscribed. You got me with Brandy Clark’s Your Life Is A Record, which is fantastic, and convinced me to take a listen to Chris Stapleton!
I had to do a drive across the country earlier in the year, and there was something extra special about listening to it as I drove through Texas, and watched the "towers mark the end of time with slowly spinning blades."
Man am I happy I listened to you. First I thought you were crazy putting anything ahead of Chris Stapleton and I might still think that because he is just a step above anyone but Eric Church. But damn if that Gabe Lee album isn’t one home run after another. So happy I finally listened and added it to my library - 5 songs in and I have added everything I can from him
Love seeing Gabe Lee in the top spot! I love that album. Honky Tonk Hell and Rollin’ On have been battling it out for my number one spot. I also love Lamentations. I got into American Aquarium after you put Things Change on your end of 2018 list. Most of my favorite albums from this year have come from this channel.
I’m really glad that you put Luke Bryan’s album as an honorable mention, because he gets a lot of hate in the country music world but his last album actually has some really good songs on it and it needs more recognition! I just think that the songs he put as single are the poppy songs that he get criticized for and he needs to put for a boat or build me a daddy as a single bc I think they would do really well.
Grady, this is a really great list. Your taste in music and your authenticity, you’re far from pretentious, I see you as a realist with a great understanding. Your comments and excitement for Gabe Lee are apparent and they make folks want us to go out and listen. Honkey Tonk Hell has been a must listen to this year for me. Only one album that I would’ve loved to have seen as an Honorable Mention was Upchurch’s Everlasting Country. That album was great, authentic and a departure from Ryan’s typical southern hip-hop that shows his strong vocal chops. The other two me and my daughter fell in love with were Maddie and Tae and Emily Scott Robinsons albums. Maddie and Taes latest album is a 6 year journey. Emily Scott Robinson is one of the greatest storytellers. Her song Ghost in Every Town talks about modern everyday life out in sleepy parts of the US that have been left alone and passed by. Great job on these videos. The work you do for me is personally and positively influential.
This is an excellent list and I agree that almost all of those albums were elite! The album “Whiskey Attitude” was released by Seth Jones (not the hockey player) this year and it hasn’t been heard by many people, relatively speaking. It is throwback country that relies on strong lyrics and classic Americans sounds like fiddle, steel, and acoustic guitars. I love you channel and thank you for what you do.
Great list! They were all among my favorites. For what it's worth, my absolute favorite was Bo Armstrong (You Know what I Look Like In The Dark is a beautiful song with lyric wordplay right down your alley) and I also loved albums by Alecia Nugent, Brennan Leigh, Corb Lund, Ashley Ray, Reckless Kelly, and so many more in addition to the greats you mentioned. Love your channel! Merry Christmas and keep on keeping on.
Really nice End of the Year list, Maddie and Tae has a place on mine but I couldn’t agree more with Tessy Lou being high on yours. Always look forward to your round out! Thanks
Thanks to this channel, I was able to pick out a few albums as Christmas gifts to my family! My dad is a real 60's-70's country fan, and my mom is all about the 90's, but there are so many good modern artists I didn't know about until I found your channel.
Thanks for a interesting run-through of your 10 top albums. I'm working with my list, but this are the country artists I've given top marks (6) on my blog this year: The Secret Sisters, Lauren Mascitti, Jesse Daniel, Jason Isbell, Steve Earle, Jaime Wyatt, Willie Nelson, Courtney Marie Andrews, Shawn Williams & Kelley Swindall. But Ashley McBryde, American Aquarium, Colter Wall & Gabe Lee's albums are also awesome! You must talk about Willie Nelson some time, the man is in his late 80's and he still gives us top class country albums! RESPECT!
Thank you for your number one, I had never heard of him, bought the album and I'm going to immerse myself. I listen to country radio (WMZQ) but all they play is over and over and over again, so it's nice to pick up new artists from channels like yours, good work.
Thanks grady for again introducing me to great new country music. Last few days i have been listening to the tessy lou williams album. Very traditional sound, great songs and really good instrumentation and emotional vocals.Next album to really check out is american aquarium
I am so glad you have recommended Hill Country, Tessy Lou Williams, Jesse Daniels and Gabe Lee, I have enjoyed them all so much so far. Hardy's album, may not be exactly "country" but it is a good album and I really enjoy Hardy's song writing. Hot Country Knights was something I didn't know I wanted but am so glad it exists, such a smart and funny idea by Dierks Bentley. Zach Bryan's new album delivered on being just as great as his others. Colter Wall's new album honestly feels like it was released and forgotten for everyone including me but I enjoy it all thoroughly. Chris Stapleton is Chris Stapleton, what can I say he delivers always. Just what came into my head while watching the video, much love Grady
1. Lori McKenna 2. Gabe Lee 3. Ward Davis 4. Brandy Clark 5. Zephaniah OHora 6. Tessy Lou Williams 7. Ashley Ray 8. Arlo McKinley 9. Waylon Payne 10. Ashley Campbell
Glad to see the love for Tessy Lou Williams, thank you for exposing me to her music. On a side note I feel like Round and Round doesn’t get as much love as it should, maybe it’s because it has a fun tone on a more thoughtful reminiscing album. Then again that’s just my observation 😁
2020 has been a year to forget but there sure has been some great new country music this year.My favorites are 1/ Chris Stapleton starting over 2/ Josh Turner country state of mind 3/ Brandy Clark your life is a record 4/ Luke Bryan born here, live here, die here 5/ Gabe Lee honky tonk hell 6/Tim Mcgraw here on earth 7/ Ashley Campbell something lovely 8/ Ashley Mcbride never will 9/ Tenille Arts love, heartbreak, and everything in between 10/ Brothers Osborne skeletons I know grady left out the josh turner covers album but i love it so much i had to list it
I totally agree with your decision to include Hardy’s album in the top 5. Absolute standout, and I can listen to the album front to back with a couple repeats in between. “Hate your hometown” is my freaking jam. Great video dude!
G’evening Grady... I love Hailey.... Tessy Lou reminds me of Alison Krause, Beautiful voices... I’m a Hardy Fan... love bro country... call me a Stan... I really like the Panhandlers sound.. way smooth... easy to listen to.. Chris Stapleton’s new album/CD has not left my car, at this moment I’m in Love with “Ole Friends” and “Maggie’s Song” both makes my eyes leak... You gave me Gabe Lee... Love his sound and his twang... he’s amazing... imogene is probably my favorite... Wishing you and yours the Best of this Holiday Season, Stay Safe, God Bless Peace, Love, and Music.... xoxo
A Rock and Sunday Drive will be in my playlist in some form probably the rest of my life. Those 2 records jumped my normal listening of new music. Mainstay going forward! P.S take it easy on yourself and all those things you tossed in I don't think about you nor do I think the majority here think that. Have a great Christmas bro!
Thank god I'm not the only one that goes to Tessy Lou Williams when they're in their sadboi feels. Hill country was fantastic and was on repeat all year as well!
I really loved Kip Moores Wild World. Every song, I loved. I especially loved Red White Blue Jean American Dream, I don’t know, it really stood out to me.
DAMN are we the same person because I have the EXACT SAME top 3 albums of 2020! (hence why I reviewed them this year!) feeling so much love for Gabe Lee! :)
I love your taste in music because I find it mirrors mine more often than not. My storage on my cell hates it though because I find myself downloading all the album's you enjoy. Artists like Gabe Lee and Mike &the Moonpies were at the top of my Spotify spins this past year and I can't thank you enough for putting me onto them. Happy New Year!
Yesss Grady! Gabe Lee is the one artist that I have come back to time and time again. Like every week. He’s definitely one of the good ones. His writing reminds me so much of John Prine.
Thanks to you I learned about the Wilder Blue (Hill Country) and Dixie Darlin' is my go to song at least once a day. It's so good, the instrumentals and harmonies. Other really fantastic songs are Palomino Gold and Janie Lynn. What an album.
For Me Personally 10. The Panhandlers (Self-Titled) 9. Tessy Lou Williams (Self-Titled) 8. God Made A Woman-Lauren Mascitti 7. Tumbleweed-Roo Arcus 6. Lamentations-American Aquarium 5. Western Swing & Waltzes-Colter Wall 4. Honky Tonk Hell-Gabe Lee 3. Elisabeth-Zach Bryan 2. The Balladeer-Lori McKenna 1. Black Cats & Crows-Ward Davis
Thank you for making shopping for country easier, its such a massive genre, I always feel left behind. I really hope Brandy Clark gets her tens for her great album
I went into this video fully expecting Gabe Lee to be number one and you didn't disappoint 😂. Man definitely deserves more attention because everything he's done is awesome, especially his single "Christmas day"
Love this list! I’m pretty sure every year Gabe releases a record it’ll be my number one! I think Sunday Drive is top 3 for me, the title track alone is impeccable. Just me though!
Remember when people didn’t “get” HARDY when he released Rednecker! He is one of my top 2 favourite artists right now and I’m so excited to see what else he brings out. We was meant to see him and Morgan Wallen in Manchester UK this year but obviously COVID stopped that. Can’t wait to finally get to see him live and hear Unapologetically Country As Hell played live!!
Grady, this video was really good. Only thing I would do is flip the top three lol. The Panhandlers album was one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Anyway, 2019 country IMO kicked the tar out of 2020. Amazing albums from Jinks, Childers, Pardi, and Flatland Cavalry were really missing this year. And throw in the Seneca album along with Gabe Lees other album. It really spoiled me last year. I will say thank you for sparking my interest in most of these people because I’d have never known about a lot of them if it weren’t for you. Stay with it dude I love your content!
My number one album has to be the panhandlers but another great one that you actually introduced me to in an older video is Joshua Ray Walker “Glad you made it “
Good list! Thanks to everyone who listened to the Seth Jones Whiskey Attitude album! I feel very blessed when I look at the streaming numbers! Lots of good music was made in 2020 despite such weirdness going on with the pandemic. Music doesn’t stop!
My favorite albums of 2020(no order) Hold My Beer Vol 2 - Randy Rogers & Wade Bowen Tabasco & Sweet Tea Heart of This Man - Carson Jeffrey Reckless - Casey Daniels Band 3rd Street - Chancey Williams Neon Town - David Adam Byrnes Wishful Drinking - Drew Fish Band Country Things Vol. 1&2 - Granger Smith Against the Grain - Hayden Baker Red Dirt Texas - Hayden Haddock K is Silent - Hot Country Knights Country Shade - John Baumann The Highway Kind - Josh Abbott Band Country State of Mind - Josh Turner Glad You Made It - Joshua Ray Walker Rowdy to Rightous - Kendall Shaffer Wild World - Kip Moore Sellout - Koe Wetzel Good Ones Never Last - Kolby Cooper Born Here Live Here Die Here - Luke Bryan Ain't Lookin Back - Mo Pitney The Panhandlers - The Panhandlers Cuttin grass - Sturgill Simpson Hill Country - The Wilder Blue Everything Burns - Will Banister Wynn Williams - Wynn Williams Southside - Sam Hunt
Great list Grady! Albums I really enjoyed not mentioned: Ruston Kelly- Shape and Destroy John Moreland -LP5 Brent Cobb -Keep ‘Em On They Toes The White Buffalo -Widows Walk Kolby Cooper - Good Ones Never Last Dalton Domino- Feverdreamer
Great list. There was a ton of really good albums this year. I've been listening to most of these non stop. My numbering would probably be different and Saturn Return by The Secret Sisters is one i would have added, except I can't think of what I would replace it with.
I was kinda rooting for Reunions to be in the list, but it was basically what i expected having watched all of your videos! (also, its crazy, it seems like it was a month ago that i was watching your 2019 list). My favorites were Reunions, Never Will, Gaslighter, Cuttin' Grass and Starting Over 💞
I'm in the same boat. I feel as though long-time Kip fans really appreciate it more than casual ones which is ok though. Glad it got some recognition at least
I loved the Hardy album this year especially because my boyfriend doesn't like country music but I have been slowly trying to introduce him to more stuff and he absolutely loves Hardy now.
2020 had so many good albums imo. Some of my favorites are: Open Book: Unabridged - Kalie Shorr Such A Long Way - Jess Jocoy heart theory - Lindsay Ell If It Wasn’t For You - Juliet McConkey Cold Comfort - Ruthie Collins Disappearing Girl - Juliet McConkey Funeral For My Past - Liz Longley Canyons - Gone West Lady Like - Ingrid Andress Supernova (Deluxe) - Caitlyn Smith
Love the list Grady! You should also review Russell Dickerson’s latest album Southern Symphony! Such an amazing album and huge upgrade from his previous one! 😃❤️
On my first listen to a rock by hardy. I cried at “given heaven some hell” but turned around and party to some others. This is by far my favorite album of 2020.
Tons of great music this year, and it was a joy to listen to these albums alongside y'all. Best, most thoughtful fellow country fans I could ever wanna have in these comments!
Can you do your opinion on warren zeiders new single on the run it’s his first song but he does a lot of covers
can u tell me the song by the wilder blue you used that wasn't in their album
@@j.t.brooks5364 it's called Okie Soldier and it's on their UA-cam page
Please do a ‘Worst of’!
I really wanted Colter Wall Western Swing and Waltzes
I thought for sure your number 1 would have been Tullahoma. You seemed to really enjoy that album, especially the song "Good Girl."
My Top 5 Country Albums of 2020:
5: “Lamentations” - American Aquarium
4: “Sunday Drive” - Brett Eldredge
3: “Reunions” - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
2: “Honky Tonk Hell” - Gabe Lee
1: “Shape & Destroy” - Ruston Kelly
Sunday Drive by Brett Eldredge took a lot of us by surprise this year and easily takes my personal top spot. That’s a no-skip album for me
So true that album is so good, I regularly go back to it
There is something about his voice. Love love love Brett Eldredge.
He refound himself on self-titled after 2 sub par releases (though each had 2-3 great songs), and Sunday Drive is far and away his best album
Listened to this album for the first time last month and couldn't stop listening to it. I still listen to it from time to time.
Hey Grady, I'm an exchange student from France and I'm spending one year in NJ. I discover country music, coming there and your channel at the same time. Keep going on, you make me love this universe and learn a lot about it.
Everything about that is awesome. (And hilarious that New Jersey is where you're learning about it.) Glad you're enjoying the country world!
@@GradySmith Country music fan from New Jersey here! We may not be the most out there but we do exist. :)
Listen to Merle if you want the best voice Country has ever had.
Really really loving the Hardy album and really happy to see it so high on ur list considering the fact that it has some definite rock sounds to it
I downloaded Tessy Lou Williams after your video.... And holy hell what a great album. This is truly what I miss in most modern Female Country Artists. Blown away.
I LOVE Tessy Lou Williams and I'm glad you mentioned her album in the video!
I am so thrilled to see Tessy Lou Williams eponymous on here. By far my Number 1 of 2020. I always look forward to the Grady Top 10s.
I loved that American Aquarium album and wouldn’t have found it without you. Thanks for that.
This is my first time hearing your reviews, but now subscribed. You got me with Brandy Clark’s Your Life Is A Record, which is fantastic, and convinced me to take a listen to Chris Stapleton!
Dude that Panhandlers record is SO GOOD. That's been my number one on repeat this year.
Seriously! I don’t know how many times this year the album ended and I just started it over. Not a single “skip track” on the whole album
I had to do a drive across the country earlier in the year, and there was something extra special about listening to it as I drove through Texas, and watched the "towers mark the end of time with slowly spinning blades."
It's amazing. The title track alone is gold, and everything else is gravy.

Tessy Lou! So glad I was introduced to her music, thanks to you!
Honestly, Hardy’s album might be my number one album of the whole year. I’m glad to see it on your list. Thanks for all you do!
My favorite album of the year is ward davis- black cats and crows. Only discovered it recently. This is true top shelf country music
The only channel who’s notifications get me excited
Yay Gabe Lee! You introduced me to him and he is one of my fave new finds from this year.
I've always had a special place for Chris Stapleton, and since I've started his new album I've had a hard time turning it off.
Grady, this is a really great list. Your taste in music and your authenticity, you’re far from pretentious, I see you as a realist with a great understanding. PLEASE
I just discovered Sierra last werk. Gorgeous voice
was about to say the same thing
He talked about Sierra in a roundup video a while back. I can’t recall which one, though.
Finally some one mentions Charley
Good list! Thanks to everyone who listened to the Seth Jones Whiskey Attitude album! I feel very blessed when I look at the streaming numbers! Lots of good music was made in 2020 despite such weirdness going on with the pandemic. Music doesn’t stop!

@Finn YOOO FINN AND JC ITS ME CHAD
Hi guys 👀
Discord moment
@@jft-69 hello Jay Cee.
Yooo it’s Baars
Id say you just about Nailed it, thanks for a year of opening up my music tastes!
On Taylor's gold rush she talked about something being as gray as her day old tea. I was like that's a grady line lol
My favorites were Reunions, Never Will, Gaslighter, Cuttin' Grass and Starting Over 💞
Only videos I don’t skip through. Seems like every word is wiser and wiser.
Hope you’re doing good out there, great video as always, Keep it up! Cheers
Wild World should have been number one. Kip put a lot of heart and soul in that album especially with fire and flame, payin hard, and Janie Blu.
I second that!
I'm in the same boat. I feel as though long-time Kip fans really appreciate it more than casual ones which is ok though. Glad it got some recognition at least
Man, Fire and flame is awesome! I love the soul it has and how it makes me feel
I love these end of year vids they are amazing! Also random is it just me or did Grady do something new with his hair??
Great year end videos.
Merry Christmas 🎄☃️and Happy New Year 🎉🍾
I loved the Hardy album this year especially because my boyfriend doesn't like country music but I have been slowly trying to introduce him to more stuff and he absolutely loves Hardy now.
2020 had so many good albums imo. Some of my favorites are:
Open Book: Unabridged - Kalie Shorr
Such A Long Way - Jess Jocoy
heart theory - Lindsay Ell
If It Wasn’t For You - Juliet McConkey
Cold Comfort - Ruthie Collins
Disappearing Girl - Juliet McConkey
Funeral For My Past - Liz Longley
Canyons - Gone West
Lady Like - Ingrid Andress
Supernova (Deluxe) - Caitlyn Smith
I love The Wilder Blue too! They are so good!
Y'all need to check out Love, Heartbreak and Everything in Between by Tenille Arts. That's my album of the year for sure
I covered it earlier this year! Like way early on. Surprisingly good!!
Love the list Grady! You should also review Russell Dickerson’s latest album Southern Symphony! Such an amazing album and huge upgrade from his previous one! 😃❤️
Agree the final three songs on that album are 🔥
Have you ever listened to mandolin orange? They are excellent
True!!!!!
On my first listen to a rock by hardy. I cried at “given heaven some hell” but turned around and party to some others. This is by far my favorite album of 2020.
Quiet, Heavy Dreams is my favorite album of the year
it was the best one this entire year, that's why.
YAY Brandy! Love my girl!
The Brandy Clark album is AMAZING!
Here for the appreciation of Hailey Whitters "The Dream" and the Ashley McBryde track "Martha Divine". Also Stapleton of course.
Great round-up!
