There are a few albums in here that I haven't actually talked about at all on the channel! (Including Charles Wesley Godwin, which I have been wanting to weigh in on!) Hope there's something for everyone here!
Carly Pearces childhood home was about 10 minutes from where I grew up and I played tons of baseball games just a few minutes away in her hometown. Needless to say, with the year she’s had, there’s been a lot of hometown pride for her, at least from the people I talk to. It’s really awesome seeing her come back from such a rough time in her life and making an amazing album and winning the CMA for Female Vocalist of the Year.
I put off Brian Kelly’s album on purpose due to being a part of FGL.. BUT Grady kept bringing this album up. Couldn’t help but love Sunshine State of Mind when I finally listened. Really wonderful album I listen to consistently.
Great list! You have cultivated a community that is by and large very open minded and eager to talk with you and with eachother about country music! It’s reflected in your comment section- that’s an incredibly special and unique thing about you and your channel that is very rare to come by on social media platforms like UA-cam! Keep up the good work man I hope you’re doing well!

Brian Kelley’s album is INCREDIBLE!!! I gave his initial EP a listen and was hooked. When he brought the full album, I fell in love. It’s one of my favorite albums of all time. I really hope Brian keeps making solo music rather than racing back to FGL.
Love the slightly late year end list, lots of good music last year. I am so glad Carly Pearce made your list. This album spoke to me so hard- in a way I really did not expect from her. I have listened to it on repeat so many times and it never gets old.
great list. the way you speak about music excites ME about music. the passion is contagious. i'll be forever grateful to you for introducing me to mike and the moonpies.
This year my top 3 was definitely 1. Reckless 2. The Ballad of Dood and Juanita and 3. Long Time Coming. I actually got to see Morgan Wade perform this year and meet her after the show and it was one of the best nights of my life! I loved the video - especially when you wax poetic about Appalachia. I hope you have a wonderful 2022!!
Grady you rock! Mike and the Moonpies are a revelation and I have you to thank for introducing them to me! I was expecting to see Jesse Daniel's "Beyond These Walls" somewhere in the video. And I would still love for you to check out Tylor & the Train Robbers if you get the chance!
I know this probably wasn’t intended, but I couldn’t help but chuckle when you said, “And while we’re talking about Appalachia, let’s jump from West Virginia to Kentucky…” but then the first clip you showed of Cole Chaney was him singing in front of Seneca Rocks which is in WV, lol. But seriously, I love your love for Appalachian music! As a kid who grew up listening to a lot of Bluegrass (among so many other genres), I am all for the Appalachian music resurgence that has taken place. Thanks for being a huge supporter of it and always putting me on to new artists to check out!
My personal top ten 1. In these silent days-Brandi Carlile 2. Hopeless Romantic-Bobby Dove 3. How the mighty fall-Charles Wesley Godwin 4. One To Grow On-Mike and The Moonpies 5. American Siren-Emily Scott Robinson 6. The Ballad Of Dood & Juanita-Sturgill Simpson 7. Music City USA-Charley Crockett 8. Depreciated-John R Miller 9. The Horses And The Hounds-James McMurty 10. Vincent Neil Emerson (Self Titled)
I think Jesse Daniel's "behind these walls" was probably my favorite record this year, there are so many great songs and I'm completely obsessed with "Texas Summer Night"
Love how you said “let’s jump from West Virginia to Kentucky” and went straight to a video of Cole Chaney playing in West Virginia😂 Can’t get away from these rolling hills! That mountain in the background is Seneca Rocks which is actually the mountain Charles Wesley Godwin sang about being above their head in Seneca Creek and is in the album cover to Seneca. Great video brother!
Glad to hear your great point at the beginning! My personal favorite country albums were: Carly Pearce - 29: Written In Stone Emily Scott Robinson - American Siren Flataland Cavalry - Welcome To Countryland Jason Eady - The Passage Of Time Lori McKenna - Christmastime Is Right Here (only an EP, but soooo good.) Miranda Lambert, Jack Ingram & Jon Randall - The Marfa Tapes Yola - Stand For Myself (okay, this is a bit of a stretch as it’s not pure country, but still.) Interested to check out Chapel Heart. They sound good!
You turned me on to American Aquarium and Gabe Lee in your "Best of 2020" video, and both acts very quickly became two of my faves. I even got to see them this summer when I was on vacation in Nashville, and they were UNBELIEVABLE. I'm so excited to see your picks for 2021!
I was with you on not seeing how CWG could possibly top Seneca but man he pulled it off. I honestly think I like How The Mighty Fall even more. Jesse, Temporary Town and Needle Fall Down are probably my top 3, the last of which surprising me how much I liked it. It’s so simple but you can really feel the scene around you. Having that final drink and then the music stopping, that shi is just chefs kiss fr
1. Charles Wesley Godwin - How the Mighty Fall 2. Mike and the Moonpies - One to Grow On 3. Blackberry Smoke - You Hear Georgia 4. Vincent Neil Emerson - Vincent Neil Emerson 5. Sturgill Simpson - The Ballad of Dood & Juanita 6. Billy Strings - Renewal 7. Cole Chaney - Mercy 8. The Steel Woods - All of Your Stones 9. The Ben Jarrell Band - Up And Headed West 10. Drayton Farley - A Hard Up Life Honorable mention: Cody Jinks - Mercy, Blackberry Smoke - Stoned, Colter Wall - Live in Front of Nobody, Cold Spring Union - Live at the Englewood, Red Shahan - Javelina, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - Georgia Blue, Rod Gator - For Louisiana
Honestly, i find it hard to imagine there'll be another album in the next few years that'll be more perfect to me than Reckless. It just ticks all my boxes, I love these female country singers with great story telling, an interesting voice, a sometimes rockier sound and all that. Whether it's Morgan, Kat Hasty, Ashland Craft, Lindi Ortega, Lily Rose, Tenille Townes and all those singers that have a similar vibe to Zach Bryan (not always musically but as a whole). Plus Reckless to me is a definite no-skipper, which led to me listening to Morgans music for over 1600 minutes
You put me on Mike and the Moonpies a while back and holy shit One to Grow One is a brilliant album. Actually got tickets to see them at a small venue in Nijmegen, the Netherlands
Top Ten Country Albums 2021: 1. Dangerous- MW 2. Macon- JA 3. The Last resort- Midland 4. Pelago- RH 5. Gold chain cowboy- PM 6. What if im right- AS 7. One to grow on- M&M 8. Buy Dirt- JD 9. Triston Marez- TM 10. Time, Tequila & Therapy- OD
That was a heck of a short list, I said I was a bit disappointed with the top singles and you cane back swinging right out! I Will check 8 of these albums, sound like masteepieces. Thanks Grady for keeping Country in the map, really! Regards from Madrid
Love you and your content, Grady. Definitely jotted down what I didn't already listen to and it will probably fuel my '22. Keep up the great content and I'm glad you're thinking of getting employees. Whatever makes this great content appear more and keeps you in good mental health status is good with me!! Have a great year.
OK. Hear me out. A video about country artists side projects. Like Charles Wesley Godwins band Union Sound Treaty or Morgan Wade first album with The Step Brothers band. I'd be into that
Charles Wesley Godwin's album was amazing, I just found it a couple of weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. Wish Jesse Daniel's album "Beyond These Walls" was on here, some great songs, especially "Gray", such an amazing song.
New video idea: Music of Yellowstone. Producers have done a great job with the music for the show, including some bands I don't think you've covered, like Shane Smith and the Saints, who are AWESOME.
I only started listenin to Carly Pearce this year and finding out it was your #2 of 2021 just makes sense to me. I haven't listened to a country album all the way through since I was a teenager but this one hooked me. I haven't had a country song hit me as hard as Day One did since Miranda's "A House That Built Me"
Great list! What are your opinion on Charley Crockett? In my opinion, his 2021 album "Music city USA" is the best country album released in years, I have listened to it over and over, it is just that great. Super underappreciated artist, one of the best out there right now.
I shit myself when you mentioned “How The Mighty Fall” as your number 2. It’s been on repeat for me since the last few days or December. Literally heard “Temporary Town” on an Apple Music playlist and had to listen to the full album. Love every track.
1. Cody Johnson- Human 2. Jon Wolfe- Dos Corazones 3. Triston Martz 4. Carley Pearce-29 5. Lainey Wilson- Sayin What I’m thinking 6. Aaron Watson-American Soul 7. Eric Church
I have always mentioned I would love that you release a weekly chart of country singles and albums, not just one video at the end of the year. This way you could be promoting good music rather than the terrible Billboard charts. I thoroughly enjoyed your choices.
My list: 1. How the Mighty Fall - Charles Wesley Godwin 2. Depreciated - John R. Miller 3. Mercy - Cole Chaney 5.(Self Titled) Vincent Neil Emerson 4. Renewal - Billy Strings 6. Long Time Coming - Sierra Ferrell 7. One to Grow On - Mike and the Moonpies 8. A Hard Up Life - Drayton Farley 9. Reckless - Morgan Wade 10. You Hear Georgia - Blackberry Smoke The order could probably change day by day but right now this is what I'm thinking. Very excited to hear more stuff by John R Miller and Cole Chaney
So happy to see Chapel Hart on here. I discovered them early this year when Billboard put out a list of Black neo-traditional country artists and was HOOKED as soon as I heard You Can Have Him Jolene. They’re phenomenal and don’t have nearly enough recognition
I am just not a fan of artists who are covered in tattoos like Morgan Wade or Ashley McBride. I just don’t understand why people do that to themselves.
somer personal favorites for me: sierra ferrell - long time coming charlie crockett - music city usa mike and the moonpies - one to grow on midland - the last resort ep
Grady, I ordered your puzzle. I was so excited to receive it because it had all my favorite country stars incorporated into it. I can’t find the order number or the confirmation email as of right now because I ordered it back in November. It has not arrived and I have lost any hope that it will. I will continue to comment this on all your videos until I can get an answer.
Great list Grady. Please take a listen to Jon Wolfe's "Dos Corazones" and Charlie Worsham's "Fist Through This Town". They are both in my top 5 along with "One to Grow On", Red Shahan's "Javalina" and Morgan Wade "Reckless".
Mike and the Moonpies - One To Grow On will be an album I take with me to the grave. It’s unbelievable. It’s literally perfect. Every single song just completes it perfectly. And Charles Wesley Godwin!
Need to catch up with some of these. I’ve been stuck on Sierra Ferrel for months. Can’t get enough of Long Time Coming. I really liked Jesse Daniels new album as well.
Love the list! Especially Morgan Wade, Charles Wesley Godwin, and Mike and the Moonpies. Only real additions from my top 10 are: Margo Cilker - Pohorylle John R. Miller - Deprecated Emily Scott Robinson - American Siren Mac Leaphart - Music City Joke
Not sure I could do a top 10 as I just don't get to listen to enough music anymore, but here's my top 5: 1. One to Grow On - Mike and the Moonpies 2. Dangerous - Morgan Wallen 3. Heart & Soul - Eric Church 4. Pelago - Ryan Hurd 5. Beyond These Walls - Jesse Daniels
I mean it’s not how is the dangerous album not on here, it why is it not #1 when it’s the top album across all genres in 2021. But I love that Brian Kelley is on here. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves, I’ve been saying it for years that he needed to be heard and I think Brian killed it with Sunshine State of Mind!!
Not ranked but just general favorites: Mentioned in the video: Charles Westley Godwin Coke Chaney Morgan Wade Flatland Cavalry Sturgill Simpson Colby Acuff Not Mentioned: Buzzed Brain 1&2 by Carson Jeffrey For the Birds- Read Southall Gold Chain Cowboy- Parker McCollum Boy from Anderson County- Kolby Cooper
I really enjoyed Billy Strings’s Renewal album. “Love and Regret” and “In the Morning Light” are some of my favorites for sure so I’m glad you at least mentioned him
Definitely agree with Reckless, Long Time Comin, Mercy, One To Grow On, and How The Mighty Fall. You definitely need to go listen to John R Miller - Depreciated. It's my favorite album of the year, by far.
My own top ten: HM: "Beyond These Walls" - Jesse Daniel, "Music City Joke" - Mac Leaphart 10. "Mercy" - Cody Jinks 9. "American Siren" - Emily Scott Robinson 8. "Where Have You Gone" - Alan Jackson 7. "In These Silent Days" - Brandi Carlile 6. "Human: The Double Album" - Cody Johnson 5. "Mercy" - Cole Chaney 4. "29: Written In Stone" - Carly Pearce 3. "The Ballad of Dood and Juanita" - Sturgill Simpson 2. "Reckless" - Morgan Wade 1. "How The Mighty Fall" - Charles Wesley Godwin
I swear bro even though this is just some UA-cam list and it doesn’t mean anything everyone always passes on Sturgills album. It was so good for a concept bluegrass/country album in the modern day and no one talks about how lyrically good the entire album is and how good the production and instruments being played are so very underrated and under appreciated, it was definitely one of the best albums of the year and also Billy Strings album renewal doesn’t get as much love as it should for how good billy strings and his band is, he’s the hottest and biggest name in modern bluegrass and nobody gives him enough love
Great list as was to be expected. I just can’t get on the Sierra Ferrel train though and would definitely have had American Siren on my list; that album just gets better and better every time I listen to it and I’m not even sure why. Oh and I LOVE “might As Well Be Me” by Dew Pendleton; awesome album!
10. Billy Strings / Renewal 9. Aaron Watson / American Soul 8. Morgan Wade / Reckless 7. Lainey Wilson / Sayin What Im Thinkin 6. Triston Mraz / Triston Mraz 5. Hannah Dasher / The Half Record 4. Midland / Sonic Ranch 3. Carley Pearce / 29/Written In Stone 2. Larry Fleet / Stack of Records 1. Cody Jinks / Mercy
Hey @GradySmith, I know you've talked about it but are you planning on releasing any more of the Big Thicket Honkey Tonk Jigsaws? I'd love to buy one and frame it for my apartment! Also love the content man 👌👌
Glad to see Bryan’s album on here! Sunshine state of mind was a great album with nothing but good positive beach vibes! Party on a beach was super catchy and Sunday service in the sand was stellar
There are a few albums in here that I haven't actually talked about at all on the channel! (Including Charles Wesley Godwin, which I have been wanting to weigh in on!) Hope there's something for everyone here!
Pecos and the rooftops please
Please, please, please give “How the Mighty Fall” the attention it deserves!!!
@@danikarugg4742 I think I just did??
@@GradySmith sometimes music brings out a delusional side in all of us… good job responding to comments like these with good humored teasing
No Zac Brown love? I actually thought The Comeback was a very good album
Carly Pearces childhood home was about 10 minutes from where I grew up and I played tons of baseball games just a few minutes away in her hometown. Needless to say, with the year she’s had, there’s been a lot of hometown pride for her, at least from the people I talk to. Morgan Wallen had the best album this year, but Sunshine State of Mind was the best surprise.

For me, Cody Johnson has to take top spot for Human. The entire thing is filled with masterpieces, the man is destined to be a legend
Exactly what I was saying. Most of this list isnt even close to top 20

Literally as soon as he says the album I go to spotify to add it to my playlist 😂
thank you for these each yearr
Never heard of chapel heart but I’m glad I watch your channel because it opens me up to new music
somer personal favorites for me:
sierra ferrell - long time coming
charlie crockett - music city usa
mike and the moonpies - one to grow on
midland - the last resort ep
Midland will always be one of my favorite country groups. Songs always speak to me, instrumentals connect and they tell a story. Can’t beat it
Grady, I ordered your puzzle. I was so excited to receive it because it had all my favorite country stars incorporated into it. I can’t find the order number or the confirmation email as of right now because I ordered it back in November. It has not arrived and I have lost any hope that it will. I will continue to comment this on all your videos until I can get an answer.
1. "One to Grow On"-Mike and the Moonpies
2. "Ballad of Dood and Juanita"-Sturgill Simpson
3. "The Last Resort"-Midland
Just started the video so I’m not sure what Grady’s list is but my favorite album this year was “How the Mighty Fall” by Charles Wesley Godwin
I cannot stop listening to Emily Scott Robinson’s new album. The first half of that album means so much to me!
Love your content dude! Do whatever ya gotta do to keep it comin xD
Love the list! Especially Morgan Wade, Charles Wesley Godwin, and Mike and the Moonpies.
Only real additions from my top 10 are:
Margo Cilker - Pohorylle
John R. Miller - Deprecated
Emily Scott Robinson - American Siren
Mac Leaphart - Music City Joke
Cody Jinks??
Not sure I could do a top 10 as I just don't get to listen to enough music anymore, but here's my top 5:
1. One to Grow On - Mike and the Moonpies
2. Dangerous - Morgan Wallen
3. Heart & Soul - Eric Church
4. Pelago - Ryan Hurd
Not ranked but just general favorites:
Mentioned in the video:
Charles Westley Godwin
Coke Chaney
Morgan Wade
Flatland Cavalry
Sturgill Simpson
Colby Acuff
Not Mentioned:
Buzzed Brain 1&2 by Carson Jeffrey
For the Birds- Read Southall
Gold Chain Cowboy- Parker McCollum
Boy from Anderson County- Kolby Cooper
I really enjoyed Billy Strings’s Renewal album. “Love and Regret” and “In the Morning Light” are some of my favorites for sure so I’m glad you at least mentioned him
One To Grow On may go on to be considered one of the best country albums ever made. Time will tell, but it is a perfect album.
Definitely agree with Reckless, Long Time Comin, Mercy, One To Grow On, and How The Mighty Fall.
You definitely need to go listen to John R Miller - Depreciated. It's my favorite album of the year, by far.
Also the new ones from Hayes Carl and James McMurty.
Carll*
Midland... Nashville Boots
Great content Grady!
if you cover Americana type music, have you ever done The Lone Bellow?
I listened to that Triston Marez album and The Last Resort while road trippin’ through Texas this summer. They were the perfect co-pilots!
My own top ten:
HM: "Beyond These Walls" - Jesse Daniel, "Music City Joke" - Mac Leaphart
10. "Mercy" - Cody Jinks
9. "American Siren" - Emily Scott Robinson
8. "Where Have You Gone" - Alan Jackson
7. "In These Silent Days" - Brandi Carlile
6. "Human: The Double Album" - Cody Johnson
5. "Mercy" - Cole Chaney
4. "29: Written In Stone" - Carly Pearce
3. "The Ballad of Dood and Juanita" - Sturgill Simpson

Jesse Daniel's Beyond These Walls would have been somewhere on my list. Great Job
Charly Crockett, Morgan Wallen and Cody Johnson didn't make the cut? Grady we need to talk lol
I’ve seen Charles Wesley 4 times blown away every time. Plus he’s humble as well. Truly loves what he does
I think the top 3 should be number 1: Morgan wallen dangerous number 2: Cody Johnson human number 3: Brian Kelley sunshine state of mind
Cody J. #1. Til you Can’t is song of decade.
@@leeowens1598 yeah
Lol
10. Billy Strings / Renewal
9. Aaron Watson / American Soul
8. Morgan Wade / Reckless
7. Lainey Wilson / Sayin What Im Thinkin
6. Triston Mraz / Triston Mraz
5. Hannah Dasher / The Half Record
4. Midland / Sonic Ranch
3. Carley Pearce / 29/Written In Stone
2. Larry Fleet / Stack of Records
1. Cody Jinks / Mercy
Hey @GradySmith, I know you've talked about it but are you planning on releasing any more of the Big Thicket Honkey Tonk Jigsaws? I'd love to buy one and frame it for my apartment! Also love the content man 👌👌
I will be a bit down the road! (The minimum order quantities are pretty big, so I have to order a few hundred at a time, which is hella expensive!)
Awesome thanks man!
Glad to see Bryan’s album on here! Sunshine state of mind was a great album with nothing but good positive beach vibes! Party on a beach was super catchy and Sunday service in the sand was stellar
