What is even more incredible is that the reduction in cost to build a Tesla was only partly due to cheaper batteries. Tesla continues to innovate its parts and assembly processes to squeeze out cost to build. Tesla is working hand in hand with their suppliers to help those suppliers become more efficient in how they manufacture their parts.
There is only one thing more amazing than EVs; and that is the rate at which you put out good informative, interesting videos. Thank you. Looking forward to hearing you at the Sydney show. ❤
I think that there is one aspect of this that is consistently communicated wrong. People that say that those that scale a lot are able to bring costs down. This is backward. Those that bring costs down effectively are the ones that are able to scale.
but...but...but we should switch to hydrogen because it's "better"!! LOL! Companies always trying to sneak a way for us to be dependent on resources beyond our control.
Imagine no sitting around waiting for an oil change. We replaced the transmission on our truck for a huge price, that motivated us to jump ship as well as lack of winter gas.
A longer life span of the battery pack and much lower cost for replacing it, would be the real game changer (imo). It would also stimulate the market for second hand EVs.
That remains to be seen in real world, also it is not about miles, but also about years. I bought 6k car which is 12 years old and the gas engine runs perfectly. It has a bit over 100 000 miles on it. With EVs we just have not seen batteries of new cars holding up for 12 years as there are none new gen EVs that are that old. Maybe oldest Model S, but many are on their 2nd battery and it is older battery tech already
Think about how long they later now and by the time it may need replacing the cost will have massively dropped, it’s a no brainer. Way more likely it will need refurbishing, not replacing anyway. Understand the point but people just don’t think about the reality.
True. The public needs to be educated on how long batteries last on average, and how much it would cost to replace a pack if needed, and the fact the battery packs are 90% recyclable. A lot of people think these are tossed in landfills and they also think a battery replacement is $15K. This information needs to be out there clearly so people understand where we are with EVs, which is incredible, but 95% of Americans have no idea
@@lkrnpk Most EV makers warrant the battery for at least 8 years/100,000 miles. Current EV batteries that are 10 years old have 70%-90% of their original charging capacity. There's plenty of info out there.
Sam, BYD may not be making a profit on its BEVs. Elon may be right that Tesla is the ONLY one that is profitable. This may be why BYD announced early this year that they would concentrate on hybrids more and indeed they sold more hybrids this year. Remember that BYD is competing in China against manufacturers of BEVs that are willing to take losses long term. Therefore BYD has had to keep its BEV prices down to cost or below cost to stay competitive in China. Outside of China their BEVs are definitely profitable and with battery prices going down even more that BEV profit should grow. BTW this totally explains why BYD has been a supplier of batteries, motors, etc to other car companies. They can mark these parts up and make a profit on them.... rather than put them in their own BEV cars where they might take a loss. By doing this, BYD "pays" for those parts to be manufactured allowing them to lose much less on their own cars.
battery price falling like flies. Software mostly recovered by now. Auto parts becomes simpler by the day . labor cost reduced tru robotics . research and development have become mainstream .
yes but how is needed to be a new model? smaller battery M3/MY there you have it. I dont think we are going to see real new models next year. I would like a M3 van/stationcar.

I love the idea of EVs but living in the city I'm starting to despise car culture, constant traffic, you couldn't get me to drive in it with a free car let alone cheaper one. I put 3000km on my electric scooter this summer, you only need like 150w to move you 10-12km per hour basically a runners pace. I'm looking forward to flyibg cars that can goto the moon and back, that would be real freedom, not riding in traffic. That being said I think I have a solution to the traffic , smart lights. So much time and lag is induced by our dumb lights. AI powered lights that know all the traffic in the city would time them perfectly to keep traffic moving.
What percentage of the world population can afford Tesla EVs? They’re not cheap at all. I’m a senior on a fixed income that is not indexed. I can only afford the quarter of an Ev… I won’t go far with that!😢
Tesla is sooo slow, with boring same old models, no FSD for 10 years, or affordable sub $25000 car Tesla will prob go bust long before then, like the hyperloop and the semi crisp mover
Increased profit margins came with a couple of caveats, Foundation series Cybertrucks that came with FSD saw that revenue realized in Q3 and the energy division is making 30%. Yes, manufacturing is lowering costs but there is no $25k car with pedals and a steering wheel, Musk is placing all his eggs in the autonomy basket with the Cybercab. Let’s see if margins can be maintained but by placing emphasis on the autonomous car before full development of the software, Tesla is has somewhat placed the cart before the horse.
I think what he’s thinking is if they bring out new 3/Y variants about $10,000 cheaper there will be a big bump in demand and this will mean all existing production facilities will be maxed out practically. Meanwhile they will build out Cybertruck and Semi production and in 2026 Cybercab will arrive. Not really a to of scope to get another new model out there, they just don’t have the factories built.
Well, I picked the challenge to put my finances in order. Then I invested in cryptocurrency, stocks, through the assistance of my discretionary fund manager
Because. Their heart isn't in it and they secretly wish it would just go away. The same with Boeing star liner because it was a fixed price contract. They threw their third rate engineers at it and guess what happened? They have lost over one and a 1/2 billion dollars on a 4 and a 1/2 billion dollar contract. And the losses continue and their astronauts are stranded in space 48 months rather than 8 Days! Legacy auto expected Tesla to remain a niche premium company.Or just go bankrupt and go away neither of these happened.
@@contra_planoyou mean "the profit went to suppliers and unions". 👍🏼 that makes sense. So what does Elon do? Avoids the UAW. We all know that one of the reasons why VW, Ford or GM cannot match Tesla is their lack of vertical integration. With this the main visible issue imho is the scattered bits of software for driving their gadgets they are subcontracting from the multitude of suppliers. It is a fact that no longer bothers me - I made a cross over these losers. But at the same time, seeing the success of Chinese EV manufacturers, I do realize the Chinese probably try to copy Tesla better than the US or EU mfgrs. It would be a great topic on this subject - if any of them had mastered the OTA updates or has a unified software system! But Sam Evans doesn't have time to read comments under his videos, so... probably not. His advantage would be that he is much closer to Chinese mfgrs than any other US content maker.
And repairs, and parts are at record highs for Teslas. I have to take my 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD standard 80 miles to the nearest Tesla service center to get a 6,500 mile tire rotation here in the US. Mobile mechanic doesn't come to every location to do a tire rotation. So, the maintenance service at Tesla with long distances between Tesla service centers, long wait times for an appointment, and expensive parts and maintenance makes me wish I waited and bought a Hyundai Ioniq 6. With the Ioniq 6 a service center is only 5 miles away from my home. Tesla service is terrible. In 2025 most Hyundai EV's will have NACS charging ports and full access to Tesla's supercharging network. So, buying a Hyundai EV in 2025 is a better deal than buting a Tesla because Hyundai can provide superior service.
Chinese EV Cars are more advanced n better in every way than Tesla but still they are selling their cars at very less prices than Tesla. So everyone should think who is better n useful for the customers.

Cheapest model y in Germany is around 45k Euro. Let's see if the cost cuts are reflected on the price
Closer to 50k Euro here in the UK! Too expensive, need to be 40k Euros to get demand moving.😊
Prices will come down further to around 40k in the next years. That will double the demand.
