When she said but we're shooting a music video right now and then turned to show the production team that was one of the creepiest things in an MV to me lol
So, hear me out: For me this MV is about idol-fan relationship from an idol's perspective. They take on the identities assigned by the public: Haerin is a cat (fans love comparing the idols they like to cute animals), Minji as the doctor (the one who takes care of the group, the leader, the "mom"), Hyein as a princess (fantasies and visuals). Now Hanni is important to introduce this whole concept through an iPhone metaphor, she says "It doesn't matter who I am anymore, I exist for you" and Dani is that voice in your head that tries to pull you out to reality, they're not this or that, they're New Jeans. Idk it makes sense to me in that way
Wow this actually makes a ton of sense identity wise for each member. I knew it was an overall commentary but the way you signified a concept to each member makes so much more sense. ❤
While Ditto was a fan's perspective of a parasocial relationship with an idol group (that she grows out of but can always return to when she wishes for that familiar comfort), OMG is the idol's perspective as you said. I've heard content creators state they begin to not really know who they are or what they want anymore, and instead just do what they believe their audience wants to see. The girls become what their fans believe them to be, and it's hard to tell what the reality is.
this is my take on it- the reoccuring character in newjeans' lore is named Ban Heesoo. The fandom name is Bunnies. (korean pronunciation of bunnies is banheesoo) WE are Heesoo. if ditto was the fan's perspective on the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan, then OMG is the idol's perspective. hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you" it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed. danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that feels pressured to always smile and laugh because that's what people expect out of her now. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene. hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references) haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat. minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members. i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.
Do you think they're trying to tell us to stop pressuring them to be what they are not or is it just something they have gone through and laughed about.
@@billythecat honestly i'm not sure if they're trying to tell us anything, i think they're maybe just shedding light on how idols get caught up in the way they're perceived by the public and their own personal story with it so far. idk though, that's a great question!
@@billythecat i don’t think they’re trying to dissuade as much as just showing the reality, they’re giving the behind the scenes of both a fan and an idol’s minds. in the end is up to fans and themselves if they wanna keep acting like that or become more grounded
If you change Hanni's word from "iPhone" to "idol", the meaning of her intro is surprisingly clear. While the other 4 members' delusions are more obvious, Hanni's delusion that she's an iPhone is actually her trying to process all of what is expected of an idol. Her best way is by saying she's an iPhone, with her reading fanmail, singing for the fans, talking to them etc.
It’s kinda sad though. Idols are humans, but a lot of fans are so removed from the concept that the idols are humans too. Those fans treat idols like they treat phones, objects of entertainment and their servant.
In short from what I understand: Ditto and Omg are related. In OMG we see the parasocial relationship between fans and Newjeans, from Newjeans pov, as it shows how fans impact idol lives. Hani's line '' I'll run whenever you call me, I exist for you'' is a very important like to express Idols - Haerin, who is always complimented for looking like a cat, now believes she is on. -Minji misunderstands that she is a doctor, even though she is a patient herself, because she is always expected to take care of others as the oldest and mom of the group -Daniel who is known for smiling a lot, is laughing at an empty Tv, but she is also the voice who pulls us to reality -Hani, through the intro, she sets the tones of being an idol - Hyein who is always complimented for being pretty, thinks now she is princess. While in Ditto, the summerize shows how fans think of idols as their friends, and escape reality through kpop. IMPORTANT DETAILS I found for the world building _ in Ditto Side A 0:29 ( I'm not sure who is talking I think it's minji): ''kitty Kang'' Haerin: ''I'm not a cat'' '' what do you mean, kitty kang'' Kang being the last name of Haerin ( who believes she is a cat) Also from ban heeseo channel (the girl from Ditto) - Video '19981228' : the description says ''These day, Hyein's princess disease is so severe. She keeps asking where to buy the glass slippers, which really upsets me'' -Video '19991229' : the description says ''It's a video I took in PE class, but I don't know if it could be used in a music video. I think the natural look is pretty. Hanni finally bought a phone. But I think I gave her the wrong phone number'' 3:33 you can see her sending a message to ban heeseo My favorite part of the MV tho has to be 4:50 🤣🤣 she called herself a doctor and said she is not a patient, so when she entered the ambulance the look they gave her🤣🤣 '' you're not sane too''
Literally my first reaction to Hanni, was "What in the Steve Jobs?! Why she dressed up as him?" Then she just says that she's an IPhone, and I straight up fell out my chair dying.
i really hope they actually didn't mean that, calling a internet troll a crazy troubled person is not a good look. hopefully they only meant that anyone who wants to comment and throw free hate and shade, it's time to stop and live your life.
@@alinsofan501 so Internet trolls are perfectly sane normal people ? I don't think so. Not all people with mental illnesses are evil, no doubt, but I think all evil people definitely are not good in the head. And as someone with a mental illness I don't find that truth offensive, I don't understand why it is a bad look, honestly.
Some people are interpreting it as the directors using New Jeans to call out people who criticized cookie (I didn't even see criticism towards the group, only towards the people who gave them that song, so it's kinda weird they're using the talent to clap back at people or as their shield to that controversy).
I think it’s general commentary. People tell sports star here in the States to shut up and dribble or music stars to shut up and sing. For the idol, we don’t want them to be anything more than what we put in them. Just look pretty and dance. At the point we forget idols are human, it’s time to log off and get some fresh air.
People throw around the phrase "cultural reset" quite a bit, but I think NewJeans could be the real deal. Really feels like, "wow, this is something different that I didn't know I needed in my life." Refreshing, relatable, perfect blend of old and new, with catchy songs and choreo. I can't really say enough about how impressed I am. Very excited to see what they do next.
I agree. So many times I stopped myself using that word because it has been so overused and “diluted” that I don’t want to feel like I am contributing to that. But it is as if EVERYONE did a collective gasp.
I think everyone is tired of these brash loud girl crush concepts where labels are now mixing up genres. NJ is simple, nostalgic and laid back with edge. Hipsters.
i love the "they keep asking me "who is he?"" because it's not as simple as "there must be a guy they like!" the reality is that there's a fan who is always on their phone watching their favorite idols and smiling and giggling, which makes the people around them ask "who is he?" thinking the fan must be talking to a guy they like for them to be smiling like that. but it's newjeans.
The doctor is actor Kim Joo-Hun who has been in a few big K-dramas - Big Mouth, Its Okay To Not Be Okay and a cameo in AE Woo . And the guy at the end who picks up the cartoon drawings on the pad is famous cartoonist/webtoonist Lee Mal Nyeon (aka Calm Down Man on YT). New Jeans were on his YT/Twitch stream for a live 90minute chat/dance/discussion with him and actor Joo Woo-jae straight after OMG was released. It has subtitles!
My Theory: The biggest clue to whatever NewJeans is, is their icon: the white rabbit. The over-arching concept of NewJeans is Alice in Wonderland, and the key is their logo: THE WHITE RABBIT. It's everywhere - in their MVs, in their outfits, in their lore and concepts, their fandom name, and in their sound which is notably both dreamy and bouncy/groovy. The way NewJeans expresses this motif in every single thing they do is easily one of the most brilliant things I've seen in k-pop. And this is partly because of how both subtle and obvious it is, and how they've taken an old tale and modernized it so it feels familiar but also self-aware. What is this concept I'm talking about? It's Alice in Wonderland. If NewJeans' summer release introduced fans to their sound, gifting bunnies a 'Cookie', then in their winter release NewJeans are inviting people to follow the white rabbit into their maddening, dreamlike universe. The wonderland of NewJeans is one of eternal youth and good vibes, and not necessarily Y2K as is widely believed. In my opinion. Every group from debut Itzy to Red Velvet to XG to Triple S has tried a Y2K aesthetic and not one of them feels as nostalgic or youthful as NewJeans. Why? From the straight unadorned long black hair, to the inclusion of Black and queer characters into central storylines about young love, to using the bunny as a metaphor for playfulness and awareness, the expression of youth and fantasy in NewJeans is so subtle and yet pervasive to me, it's obvious it has come from the mind of someone obsessed with the idea, someone who has studied what makes someone youthful beyond the temporal sense. Much has been said at this point about the end scene in OMG and how that is Min Heejin clapping back at her detractors, but for anyone who has actually watched the MV, it's clear that everyone (including the doctors) is said to be mad or a little insane or inside this 'dream-like reality'. Everyone, including the viewer. In Ditto and OMG, NewJeans' not only break the 4th wall, they demolish it completely. You're left wondering what is real and what is an illusion. And that's the point. With that final scene in OMG with Minji bringing the hater with her into the insane asylum, and the final scene in Ditto where an Inception-like flip happens when Ban Heeseo watches her old tapes (Heeso being a representation of their fans), the creative team at Ador has brilliantly conveyed the reality of para-social relationships fans develop with their idols, as well as enclosing their fans in their own universe and memories. Not even their haters are exempt.
I'm sighing at how much your words made me see broader sense in everything New Jeans have been doing lately, why their distinction from so many others in the industry, as if they were turning to somenting deeper and indeed they are.... i've to say thank you for sharing your observation.
This brings “cookie” into a whole different thing that the gross sense that’s been permeating the majority of the internet’s interpretation of it. Didn’t Alice ate those cookies to be able to change size and enter various places?
This music video literally having the build-up of the connection to their storyline was PHENOMINAL. When Danielle goes "We're filming a MV right now!" and sees the directors it genuinely shocked me, and for the references to literal real-life apperances like variety shows, fanmeets, and shit like that let ALONE connecting to Attention??? That took me to my core... Terrific.
Heesoo is defiantly the key to understanding this storyline. She’s appeared twice now and perhaps the next album will dive into this story more in depth.
@@satagraya It's Ban Heesoo.. she has her own YT channel - 308k subs so she has her own silver award - 26 videos. Most of the videos has a Korean description by Heesoo. Most have been translated. There are 3 Ditto dance practice videos and also 1 yesterday with a clip of OMG in it.
it'd make sense but i loved that newjeans didn't have lore. like they would do a music video (or several versions of a video) with a separate storyline and then drop it. it's logical that ditto and omg are connected bc it's the same era/album but i want them to give us simple stories and move on from them after a video. or maybe not so simple (looking at you, omg). but you know, no loonaverse type of thing
@@marc.4583 there are storylines in both ditto and omg, and the mvs are connected, so together they compile one story! wow, crazy. and seeing the growth of ban heesoo's channel and people being like 'omg no i'm gonna miss heesoo's uploads/storyline' i'm afraid they will capitalize on it. even if it's a metaphor for fans or whatever
my favorite part is the ending. danielle breaking the fourth wall + trying to explain to the girls that they’re newjeans followed by the TRIPPY recap of newjeans.
If anyone remembers, T-ARA was doing mini stories for their music videos waaaaay back in the 2000s. I'm glad it's coming back cus NewJeans is amazing and it keeps me intrigued!
I think that both MV”s of Ditto and OMG are focused on the opposite spectrums of a parasocial relationship. In Ditto Heesoo (the girl filming) sees NewJeans as her friends, but that’s not reality. As the MV goes on she realizes that she can’t keep holding on to a relationship that doesn’t exist. She gets in touch with reality by making real life relationships. This is conveyed with the boy. At the end of Ditto Part B, Heesso is older and is reminiscing about how she used to love NewJeans. It’s NewJeans telling us our music will always be there, but live your life because those type of moments you don’t want to miss. In OMG the parasocial relationship is through NewJeans’s perspective. All the things us fans or Bunnies roles we gave them manifests into reality in them. It showcases how fans can impact the idols. This kind of jump from reality is shown with them being in the psych ward. For example, Minji is kind one the mom role in the group and she’s become so in to her role she thinks she’s a doctor helping the girls out when really she’s a patient like the rest of them. Another example is Haerin. Bunnies have said she has cat like characteristics and now she thinks she’s a literal cat because of her feeling like that’s the role she’s stuck in. Hope this makes sense!!
It's like rewatching perfect blue. What we see of idols are what we want then to be, their identity stems from our perception of how and who we want them to act. Which is why some fans act out when what they are irl betrays that very view they've built up for them. Even to the point of committing crimes. Everyone is obsessed with our avatars, having multiple online personas and accounts that are maybe dedicated to the different types of ourselves that we want to represent. For idols especially they depend a lot on us to solidify their identity, but if they lose your identity being rejected by us, there's nothing left. Those scenes, just like the idol in perfect blue, are mixed, each shot transitions from her idol life to her real life where the line between reality and non-fiction blurs. when we see her perfect self, it's always through the lenses. Just like what a fan said, it's not a puzzle to be solved but a story to be enjoyed. I'm gonna have PTSD from the anime again I'mma head out now. Also, fuck black Swan, that movie doesn't even deserve any attention for plagiarism
one of the things that creeped me out the most in this MV is that in some scenes where they dance and jump around in the ward setting with their robes, there's always a girl on the chair holding a stuffed bunny toy. I thought she was only there during the silent moment at 07:39 but you can see her in other scenes too.
Lol that’s actually us. The girl represents us:) we’re the creeps. Kinda makes sense since we’re all pretty much obsessed with all of these idols, analyzing their videos like we know them personally.
This mv is EVERYTHING, like literally. My take on this mv is that they are confuse with who they were really are as an idols. Hanni - Iphone Dani - Idol Haerin - Cat Hyein - Main Character in every Romantic trope stories Minji - Doctor The mv started with hanni actually explaining the whole concept of the mv. Idols who don’t even know themselves, they worry on what the fans or other people wants to see them that it doesn’t matter who they are anymore for at the end of the day they (Idols) were made for them (fans) or rather, they exist for them. Next scene was minji gathering every member, even herself. My take on Minji’s character was, she is the group’s therapist, like someone who can they run when they are troubled when she, herself, is confused. It can be seen how she switch from patient to doctor (before the credit rolled). Moving on to hyein, her character is my favorite and the amount of comedic act they put is just so funny 😭. At 5:07 as she flips the book you can see the movie references on each page she re-enact with dani (her male lead in every story). The first scene was from La Boum where the male lead put the headphones on the female lead then as she flipped the book it transitioned into them dancing then the next page was hyein looking at her apple watch then the time was 12:00 am (cinderella). Then she became the little match girl. When she light up the match, haerin appeared while holding and apple which is supposed to be poisonous (snow white). After that she became the sleeping beauty waiting for her prince charming (dani riding that vehicle) to wake him up. But dani didn’t make it which can be seen at 5:45 (dani laying at the floor) probably because of an accident. Then hyein was actually scared because instead of the prince charming coming to her, it was the bear who found her (her reaction is so funny pls 😭) and this part was from the movie the revenant. Haerin thinks that she is a cat. Because of her cat-like features that fans see on her. Dani is an idol in the middle of shooting a music video. She even confirmed it with the director (the director and staffs face was like 🗿 AND IT WAS SO FUNNY 😭). At the bridge part of the song, the supposed doctor of nwjns suddenly became patient because he was also confuse with nwjns identity. He sees them as nwjns themselves then suddenly he saw them as children to normal high school girls, normal people, ghost, firemen, soldier then back to nwjns (idols). Then at the ending dani saying that they are new jeans, idols who were bound to do things fans wants to. Lastly the iconic post credit scene, typical haters who spout whatever nonsensical things. Then minji taking them to mental hospital (😭😭😭😭😭😭). This mv is the most unique mv I’ve seen in my entire kpop fan life. New jeans potential is so amazing and I look up to their future comebacks. I hope that they keep this weird yet unique concept of them.
Everything about this group is top notch. I love everything about them and I’ve never thought I’d find a group like that. Obviously the quality of production is top level. But even energy of the girls.. is just so fun, but “OMG” add some complexity behind it.
honestly speaking i can't even consider them 4th gen anymore, but much more leading the 5th gen of kpop already, as you said they are doing something new and something different, i love their sound so much it's absolutely my cup of tea
Saw a theory and I think it makes the most sense: the girls are the imagination of heesoo, the main character of the ditto mv’s. The girls are characterizations of the cat, her phone, her passed away friend, new jeans, and the doctor. She is actually the one in the ward but the mv shows it through her point of view.
PD there’s a surface level story in both this MV and Ditto, but there’s also a metaphorical statement being made about both kpop fans (in Ditto) and the industry/idols (in OMG). Hanni being an iPhone was a pretty clever and satirically scathing metaphor about the commodification of idols- she is literally a product. There’s much, much more and I’m very excited for a kpop group to tackle these issues and open a conversation because the kpop industry is increasingly more and more absurd and ostentatious as we enter each new generation. I think this is ultimately the main underlying message of OMG- the absolute absurdity of both kpop fandoms and the kpop itself. It’s surreal in both the best and worst ways. New Jeans themselves are an example of the increasing absurdity of kpop, as evidenced by their already numerous scandals. I’m starting to wonder how calculated these controversies are, and if MHJ chose a group of such young girls to deliver this message is also a calculated move. I’m confused by that meta part, but I’m here for the meta commentary aside from that.
Hanni - a confused iPhone, the fandom literally thought she's the ace of the group that do everything. Thats why she's an iphone, and do all sort of things in the opening when the fandom tell her to do. Haerin - believed she was a cat because the Fandom keep tellin she looked like one Minji - a doctor, the fandom keep telling she's the mother of the group that took care of the members. Hyein and Dani's story - The bear is the actually being referred as their fandom. Can be seen overprotecting towards NJ members which led to killed Dani (demotivated) and making Hyein uncomfortable (can be seen on the bed scene) bcs of their obsession.
I love the whole storyline they're going for and how that's being created but honestly I'm stuck on this song. It's so catchy like all of their precious songs have been but in a different way than other K-Pop songs if that makes sense (or im just bias whihc is also true). Even though we're in the 4th generation, I'm not sure if new jeans qualify as 4th gen or if their starting the 5th Gen (covid fucked shit up and is still doing so; and these past few years have taken a toll so 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️). But whatever they're doing it's new. The song is a banger I've got it on several playlists already and I wasn't sure about the title because I thought they were just gonna say OMG but I love the way they say "oh my, oh my God."
Minji thinks she is an doctor Hanni thinks she is an iPhone Haerin thinks she is a cat (we know she IS an cat) Hyein thinks she is a princess The only one who can slightly remeber is Danielle. The girl in the last scene ist Heesoo. (from "Ditto") The point that the real doctor see that drawing in the window, will show us that the imagination of the girls are real. Now the question: what was happening between "Ditto" and "OMG"? I think the key is Heesoo. Is she the producer of NewJeans, or did she discover them?
My take is OMG is adopting the concept of Multiverse just like Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) which the protagonist has tap into alternate version of herself in other universe. Ditto and Attention are one of the MV universe they have access to through Danielle perspective since in her universe, they are New Jeans. The reason they gather here is because Minji has tap into a universe where she is a doctor, so she collect everyone including herself with Identity Disorder with that Ambulance. Haters from the aftercredit is actually an alternative version of Ban Hee Soo that exist in Minji universe which symbolic another side of fandom, aka Haters.
I think it's Haerin actually singing the "baby" line. Right before the first chorus she sings "He's the one that's living in my system baby" and she does the effect on that baby pronunciation too. I think she just has the ability to do it since she does it in her lines where they show Hyein in the book with the pages turning.
I get the feeling they are setting new jeans to be like a 'lovecraftian' creatures, they cannot be explained just experienced. So far it seems that Hesoo experiences new jeans and the Doctor seems to be the one experiencing new jeans. It all connects, what WE (live performances and appearances, attention, hype boy, cookie and hurt) HESOO (ditto shots) and the DOCTOR have experienced with new jeans, cause they are all happening at different times for ppl (just like we discover a group and watch their old stuff) but at the same time for NEW JEANS (cause they are replaying those moments stuck in time) Let's look at them as as superior beings.ITS CRAZY GOOD
Here is a little explanation: - Minji thinks she is a doctor (she tries to help the other patients) - Hanni thinks she is an Iphone (sounds similar to Idol so she got confused) - Danielle sees things others can't see (the only member who sees the cameras) - Haerin thinks she is a cat (she even tries to eat cat food) - Hyein thinks she is a princess (she thinks the bear is her prince)
I love this MV as well! The 4th wall break was so godly to me. I’ll leave the MV theories for other commentators to speculate on, as I’m not good with my words lol. OMG is such a good song, it’s been on repeat in my playlist ever since. NewJeans has a chokehold in me now TT PD, you need to listen to FIFTY FIFTY! They’re a girl group that just debuted around a month ago and ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE SO GOOD!!!! I highly recommend listening to their whole album which has 4 songs!
The ending, minji (who thinks she’s a doctor and gathering all the pts into the ambulance throughout the mv) tells the hater “let’s go” bc you’re crazy and belong in the ward
@@Tea-K. I think it was a clever ending and no, to me the hate comment clearly isn’t about MHJ herself. The group is executing their mv’s very differently from the typical kpop mv, no beauty shot after beauty shot and no just sharp hardcore dancing, no sparkly theatrics etc. If anything, I think the last part is like NWJNS further acknowledging that they aren’t like other kpop groups who “just shows their faces and dance”
I think it is so cool that new jeans already has "their sound". Some groups come out and the producers just try anything for a while (Lightsum and Bugaboo come to mind) where it's just random until they find a theme. New jeans producers already had all of it in mind and they banked on it to be "good enough" like you said and I gotta say it is. Gotta love new jeans
Meta. Breaking the 4th wall. Asking about who we are. Who they are. Who we think we are. Who we think they are. What is real? What is our perceptions and assumptions. Reality is relative.
i love how pd mentions how he likes the lore they added in ditto and then omg mv the entire time they're like "wtf did i just watch" hearing them slowly piece it together "oh..does she think...she's a cat?"
I'm pretty sure NewJeans is the defining sign of a new generation of KPOP. What stands out to me about New Jeans' MV's is the focus on the music itself rather than the idols. Most of KPOP is not in fact about the music being artistic rather, the music acts as a proxy pedastool to allow the artists to shine. NJ threw all of that out of the window and seriously focuses on the music having a sound that matters rather than a sound that 'helps' to make the idols matter. OMG is easily in Top 10 of the year for me because of everything I said, and also cause it walks a very thin line of authentic love and obsessiveness (kind of Ditto too, of which is a great, painful song in its own right) which is a tight-rope I have *never* seen in KPOP. Bravo New Jeans.
This kind of " lore " that new jeans is portraying has been done before in some T-ARA music videos, and loona has been doing this since 2017. It's definitely not new, but new jeans are getting more attention than they did.
Im pretty impressed with the messaging of NJ......there seems to be a pretty concerted effort to maintain the youth of this group and part of that is a healthier idol/fan relationship and still letting these girls be......GIRLS.
i think hyein is a princess and she relates Danielle to her prince, but she can't make up for it in her illusion (shown as she dies before she can wake hyein up), so when the bear is the one who shows up, she assumes that's her actual prince charming. minji is not a doctor but she thinks she is, she's always taking care of all of them and is surprised to find her own self in the ward. danielle sees things the others can't see, she watches static TV's, she can see the crew members, she's the one who's still slightly sane. haerin is just basically a cat... hanni is an iphone, i personally don't get the meaning behind it but some people imply that iphone and idol in hangul sound similar so she could've mistaken it.
There's a "Ban Heesoo" YT channel where -they've- _she's_ been uploading clips of footage from the Ditto universe *every single day for the past 26 days* with little comments in the descriptions. Some are dated from as being from 1999 while others are dated from now. I don't exactly get it, but they're definitely doing some new interesting things for K-pop that's for sure.

pd just in case u didn’t know, cignature is finally coming back on the 17th!! I remember u saying recently that u were wanting them to comeback. So I wanted to let u know! The song is called Aurora and they’re releasing their 3rd mini album too
hi!! So I don’t know if you were aware yet, but cignature is finally making a comeback on the 17th! The song is called Aurora and it’s releasing alongside their 3rd mini album too. It looks really fun so I hope u can check it out!
lore wise i would like to have honorable mention to loonas world building that dwindled but i hope new jeans can tap into it more and as per the deductions i love the storyline so far
Im a month late but the actor is Kim Joo-hun. He's been in dramas like Big Mouth, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Its Okay to Not Be Okay and Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol
It just reminds me so much of the MVs and movies directed by Chris Cunningham and Spike Jonze and the Andy Kaufman movies like “Being John Malkovich” and “Adaptation”. With a bit of David Lynch “Inland Empire” thrown in. Some of those old Chemical Brothers (Let Forever Be) and Fatboy Slim (Praise You) videos really bent reality in subtle ways and this reminds me of that era of indie-ish American and British MVs.
Ooh here's my take on this: This is Heesoo's "NewJeans" as captured in her videos from Ditto - this is Heesoo's imaginary NJ, complete with assigned characteristics. Some evidence: - A few of the dance moves being the ones performed by the girls in Ditto (towards the end of the MV's bridge, where they interspersed the clips). - Haerin thinking she's a cat; Haerin in Ditto being called "Kitty Gang". There's also a few clips of a cat in Ditto, that makes sense. - Hyein thinking she's a princess in a fairy tale; in Ditto, this wasn't really shown however if you see Ban Heesoo's YT Channel lore, you'd see one of the captions being "Hyein having princess syndrome lately". - Minji thinking she's a doctor and not a patient; now for this, I think Minji is depicted in Ditto as (lore-wise) being the closest to Heesoo - seen in the clips of them together with the nail polish & Minji calling Heesoo in Side B when Heesoo starts to distance herself. Might be a reach, but I think Minji has 'gained more awareness' not of the NewJeans personalities they're given, but that of Heesoo because she's more convinced of their friendship. "I'm not a patient" she says; she's convinced she doesn't belong there. She thinks she actually is real. - Hanni being an iPhone could allude to the meta aspect of NJ; both them being imaginary friends of Heesoo and NJ as idols (and if you want to make it lore-wise, then technically the imaginary friends only exist for Heesoo). - Danielle may be convinced that, just like Minji, they're REAL - but not in terms of being aware. She's convinced they're actually NJ; these singers/dancers Heesoo has made them into. In fact, Danielle's accusation starts unraveling the past discography of NJ as well; there is a bigger claim now that the NJ we know and has debuted is actually Heesoo's NJ. And in a way, it's true - if Heesoo represents Bunnies, you could say they ARE NJ in our videos in phone/laptop/TV screens the way NJ are Heesoo's imaginary friend in her camera. In fact, it was Minji who stops the unraveling by looking at the camera directly and says "that's enough". Honestly I don't know if I'm even half accurate (you can piece together more clues yourself + by looking at Ban Heesoo YT channel crumbs)!
Forgot to say, but I think the whole mental hospital setting could be because Heesoo dropped her camera/simply grew up and didn't need then anymore. But NJ doesn't have a purpose anymore now, so they're stuck there. Another theory is that these 5 girls have gone through some accident, survived but turned different; Heesoo is grieving for losing them (but this is more unlikely compared to my main theory ngl).
Ditto and OMG are critiques on the idol-fan relationship, with OMG being more blatant about it. Even going back to Attention and Hype boy it appears the commentary/message New Jeans wants to put forth is that of the "idol" life. In Attention they're asking kpop fans to "pay attention" and make promises that they'll love us and be there for us. In Hype Boy it's talking about idols "changing" themselves to fit into that of what the fans want, or obsessing over what the fans think, before realizing (as in a couple of the versions) the fans talk nice to them but then shit talk them later or jump biases (Danielle and Haerin version). Come Ditto and it's on how Idols are "forced"/expected to interact with the public, fans believe there is this closeness with them. That we're their friends, we watch and record everything about them but in reality they're not there, they're not our friends and one day we'll forget them but rediscover a video or something and remanence on how happy and good they made us feel. As many have stated it's the fans perspective on this relationship. Now with OMG, we see the idols perspective and for both you get context form the Ban Heesoo youtube account who also represents us fans, we're Ban Heesoo. So in OMG, you have 5 idols suffering from personality disorders and identity crisis. Heyin thinks she's a princess because we've labeled her as such, Ban Heesoo uploaded a video calling her a princess. Haerin thinks she's a cat because we say she looks like a cat, and Ban Heesoo uploaded a video calling her a cat, where Haerin even pushes against it saying "I'm not a cat", but we kept calling her it so she thinks she is. Minji a doctor because we view her as the leader and she helps the other. Through these "identities" that we force on the members they have lost their way. The drawings that come to life are wild fan theories/rumors that end up spreading and taking a life on their own (ex: dating rumors), and when Heyin is portrayed as Sleeping Beauty, I think the bear is portrayed as us. Fans jump to defend idols from preconceived or nonexistent dangers but they are actually fine/we can't actually sav them. Danielle is eventually the one who remembers who they are, but the others are so lost in trying to conform to fans ideals that they don't listen. The Doctor who becomes a patient I think represents the management staff, he's trying to help them stay grounded but they constantly change, thus the supercut where they 5 at the table change outfits, that it drives him crazy to where he loses himself. Then at the end of the video when they finish and you see the person typing, that is directed at the fans who will comment on the video saying telling them to just sing and dance and Minji the ever "doctor/mother" of New Jeans says "Let's go" as in times up, shut it off, stop it. So when Ador said they wanted to due something new with New Jeans, it was this. It was to take this concept of Kpop that the industry and us fans have and they've taken it and thrown it into our faces letting us know it's all crap because it's constantly forgotten that these girls and all idols are still people. It's why New Jeans is so different, they've set out on a mission to change kpop. It's why their music is so different form any other group, it's why Hanni, Danielle, and Minji are allowed to write songs as rookies because it's something Kpop has never done before.
On April 25, Min Hee-Jin held an emergency press conference at Korea Press Center in Seoul. After the emergency press conference, OMG music video got a huge attention because On her presentation slide, she revealed conversation with Park Jiwon, CEO of Hybem and said she got the Apple event canceled because she was threatened due to OMG music video.
The girl from the Ditto vid is hidden throughout this video as well many times . usually sitting int he back chair. shes also walking through the hallway when the girls are sitting in the chairs with the doctor looking at them sitting in the corner
What you said at the start about them getting deeper in Ditto, Hanni said exactly that in one of her videos. She said their first songs such as Attention were like love at first sight because it’s refreshing and fun. Then Ditto is getting to know them in a deeper, more personal way and that’s exactly how it felt I think!
I think in the end when Minji (pretending doctor) says times up, it means that the free time given to the other patient has done, who was writing bad things on twitter in her free time. We say haters are mentally ill or sick inside, right? So they are taking the patient back to room for treatment :)
ditto: fanside omg: ldol's side confused about their own identity but don't wanna wake up from this dream(attention's lyric) and last scene means their dreams come true (to people who think newjeans is a star)
I think NewJeans’ lore isn’t really about fiction/story lore but rather meta commentary on the industry/life/etc. Also this mv reminded me of the Korean movie I’m a cyborg but that’s ok. Whimsical but also meta commentary.
I believe that they take the reference from Everything Everywhere All At Once. It's just the concept of multiverse focusing on the world where New Jeans are in a psychiatric hospital, like they think that they are a doctor, cat, siri, high school students, or whatsoever but actually it's just that they connect to themselves in other verses. Especially at the end 7:54 is exactly the same shot as in EEAAO.
When I first heard the song, I had to check the credits to see if Pharrell or Tyler the Creator was involved in the production, since it's something they might have produced, lol. Love the song.
In OMG music Video Emphasis on the pronounciation starting at 46 sec. Dahn? Dang? It's one of the factors how OMG music video went viral after Min's emergency press conference because of this part. Shin means God in South Korea
Dahn World combines traditional Korean mythology and philosophy with modern spiritual practices, incorporating the story of Hwanung and the bear from the Dangun myth as a significant part of its teachings.

Note: In the begginning in the iPHone, she was dressed as Steve Jobs... I think this is going to be something like GFRIEND with all the symbols and such that was running through the videos and no one knew they would tie together until Crossroads.... but here they are showing us that it will all come together sometime.
The part when Hanni was talking to a wall represents the first part when she was taling to and ear in that steve jobs costume. Inside Hanni's head she's having a conversation through the Iphone but in reality she's just talking to a wall
You also mentioned Hyein "that cat appeared in the last video. Wait- does she think she's a cat?" In ditto side A intro Heeseo was calling Hyein "Kang Kitty" then Hyein replied "im not a cat" that could symbolized Ditto was reality while while OMG is a figment of their imagination. Also the part when the actor doctor was sitting in a corner then the people in the round table keeps changing I think its because of "im going crazy right" lyrics that says they all have mental conditions and tell different stories where their character changes as well meaning they find it hard to differentiate reality from imagination.
The answer to everything is simply “NewJeans live trough us and our needs”. It actually makes sense for Ditto and OMG, we’re questioning reality but I don’t think this is the point, your reality is simply what you believe on and what has an impact on you,… so NewJeans is part of your reality in whatever form you actually need (kind of like an iPhone, 😅) At least that’s what I got from all of this
You need someone by your side like a companion, they can be a cat for you. You need to escape reality, they are your fantasy world. You need to heal from any pain, they are your doctor. You need them with you through whatever small thing you do, they are your iPhone. You simply need an idol to look up to, they are Newjeans. 🐰
so here's the most shallow theory i could come up with: (copy pasted from my comment on the mv) it's connected to ditto storyline .. they're in some sort of purgatory in a form of psychiatric hospital each member has their own delusions,, like living in their own reality: - hanni is an iphone. dont question her. she's living in some sort of virtual reality. she still tries to communicate with heesoo somehow even in afterlife, when heesoo finally moved on - that's what i'm getting with the 'Heesoo, please answer the call' - minji thinks she's a doctor helping her friends out and not a patient herself. - haerin has this creative delusion where she thinks her drawings come to life. she turned herself into a cat (3:38). it also somehow affects the reality of the other girls, (3:28) like the application logos for hanni, the ambulance for minji and danielle, and the bear and the poison apple in hyein's reality. - hyein is a princess in a fairy tale who's not only poisoned by the apple, and is also eaten by the bear drawn by haerin. tragic. not suitable for a disney movie, sadly. you can actually see this in action - the poison apple shown in 3:02, and as soon as haerin finishes drawing the bear, hyein became a ghost (3:29). - now danielle, she's the most interesting one as she is the only one NOT insane among the 5 of them. she's a 4th wall breaker, both for newjeans kpop and newjeans story. she is seen constantly trying to get hyein out of her delusions (2:37), and in 3:12, she's like the supposed heroine in hyein's fantasy, her prince charming, but nah, bear goes nomnom. she knows the reality we know - they're newjeans (5:18), they're on a set (4:43), they have a student life in 1998 aka 'ditto storyline' (5:22) - it's like 2 separate realities .. this is a bit reach and a bit forced, but that's what i'm getting. however, the other girls remember none of this, so they just assume she's delusional like them. lastly, 5:08, 5 girls are playing, 1 girl sitting alone with the bunny plushie. 5:10, she's sitting alone. i assume this is heesoo, when her friends died. also, lots of fans are referring to 'ban heesoo' as bunny, which translates to the fandom name of newjeans - “Bunnies” or “Tokki”. so i think the parasocial theory is somehow plausible. (this is a very very shallow theory .. i only based on this mv and ditto story alone .. if someone could do a bit further research regarding psychology issues related to this, please do,, we would love to hear it .. for those who dug deeper by rewatching all of their mvs ,, please share your theories for i don't have time to do that lmfao, this is the theory i could come up with the limited time i have) (feel free to use this theory as a reference or a starting point for your own, i'd love to hear other theories)
From the beginning line of the song it says This song is about you, baby, only you... You you you you you then we see shots of every member in each 'you' only to mean that the 'you' their referring to is themselves. Song is about what people, fans or not are perceiving them to and them eventually kinda believe or conform to it.
I think I got it. Everyone has a special condition that landed them in the loony bin. They were all gathered and put into the ambulance. So when the “poster” was writing that stuff in the end. they were being called to go into the loony bin with the members. I think my favorite was the one who had the fairytale syndrome. Definitely the most aesthetic
Now I understand Hyein is a mixture of princesses where in the end she is dead like in Romeo and Juliet, Danielle thinks they are members of New Jeans, Hanni is an Iphone, Minji is a doctor, Haerin is a cat. The individual parts I got, now I'm trying to theorize together with Ditto what that ending is, if they are in a parallel universe or it goes deeper than that.
I think others may have mentioned how it seems to be addressing the dynamic of idols and fans, and I thought around 21:00 you hear them break the fourth wall and say, “they’re shooting a music video” and “before I met you, everything was pointless”, as if to reinforce that idea that unless they’re making music videos to appease their fans, they had no worth/whatever they were doing isn’t as important as fully dedicating themselves to fans? Edit: Made the time stamp more accurate.
Also regarding the hats with bunny ears, I see it as alluding to the concept of “following the white rabbit” 👀 a connection to Alice in wonderland is certainly whimsical
I think Ditto and OMG are 2 sides of the same coin. They are both about the parasocial relationship between idols and fandoms. Ditto was from the pov of the fandom. We see the idols only through a camera yet we feel like they are our friends. We talk and write about them. Their music and charm helps us through tough moments. They inspire us. They uplift us. But it's not REAL. We don't really know them at all. The message of Ditto is to tell fans that at some point we will outgrow the idols or have other interests. REAL interests. And that we should persue them. The idols will always be there if we ever want to reminisce or find comfort with them. OMG is from the pov of the idol. Hanni sees herself as an iphone (probably any smartphone but I suspect Apple is doing some not so sneaky adverticement here) that is to say, a tool to satisfy people's needs. She says "I will sing for you...I exist for you". Without an adoring fandom an idol ceases to exist. Hyejin is a Princess, literally laying on a pedestal to be eaten by bears (haters or gossip). Minji is a doctor that takes care of the members, not realizing she is not well herself. Projecting the perfectly happy healthy persona we all expect from idols. Haerin is a cat, a cute, innocent, harmless creature that we, as the public, expect specially from female idols. Danielle is very interesting because she plays several roles. She is a prince that fails to save the princess. She is also hysterically laughing at static in a tv. She is also the one to believe they are all part of New Jeans. And I think that is precisely the point of the video. We don't know what is real. It's almost like they are saying that idols are kind of crazy and "delusional" too. That they also struggle with their identity between what is real and what is portrayed. What they want and what their job demands of them. Who they are in public versus who they are when no one is watching. Their reality is very fluid. And their identity and sense of self can be very maleable. So to say it in the words of a brilliant commenter in another video about OMG, Ditto is about telling fans to go touch grass and OMG is about telling idols to go touch grass.
If you are thinking of subbing to the patreon because you want to watch their older videos, don't. They're having major problems with Vimeo atm and more than half, if not more, of all their older videos are unavailable at this time. This is something that should have been addressed on UA-cam a long time ago.
I saw somewhere someone saying that the lyrics of OMG is from Heesoo's perspective and Ditto from Newjeans's. It makes sense cuz we have the the whole boy love storyline and the part where it goes "they keep asking me who is he" is Heesoo talking to nwjs cuz the "they" is nwjs as we can see it in that outdoor table scene in Ditto. The lyrics in Ditto are from nwjs perspective. We have the whole part of them saying to "stay in the middle" which coincides with the whole theory of them talking about idol-fan parasocial relationship. Nwjs wants their fans to like them but still keep a separation btw them and Heesoo's own life, she's a symbol of fans/bunnies. In Ditto nwjs constantly ask questions which are directed towards Heesoo and often connected to reality, but at the same time, they talk about wanting their fans to love them and think about them. When we look at the lyrics of Ditto with OMG mv it supports some of the theories I saw where they said nwjs are having a hardtime separating their own identities with the characters/roles giving to them by fans and maintained by the industry. If we look at OMG song with Ditto mv, we can see that Heesoo is expressing her feelings and what she is going through and how she relies on nwjs. She talks about being sad and the part that says "its you, you worry about me" is the common idea that idols help fans get through tough times because the "it's you" is nwjs. As the song progresses, Heesoo expressed things to nwjs less directly and talks more about the guy she likes, however amongst all that nwjs is always still talked about, almost as though her boundless love for nwjs is stopping her from persueing this guy, who's a symbol for important real life events like love or something else of significance. Anyways, this might all be a stretch but as of now, to me, it makes sense. I like this idea of talking about fan-idol relationship and how at times fans can have a positive effect on idols but sometimes paired with the industry of kpop can really mess with idols mental and how they might view themselves. And the same for how fans can rely and fan over nwjs, but they shouldn't rely on them too much to the point where it's preventing them from doing things in real life that they really want to do because they spend too much time on nwjs or because they use nwjs as an escapism. Regradless of what it is, I think Newjeans is doing rly good at convey this story and I cant wait to see whats next and how that might change our idea/conceptualization of the message they are trying to convey.
When she said but we're shooting a music video right now and then turned to show the production team that was one of the creepiest things in an MV to me lol
I agree. I felt like I was being deceived by someone, you know?!
I literally said "what the FUCK?" Out loud lmao
It feels like they’re breaking the fourth wall but at the same time they’re not lol it just leaves us with this weird tingly sense in our mind
The way they broke the 4th wall like that was so much more unsettling than the vintage shots in Ditto
I didnt get you. Why creepy?
Idk it makes sense to me in that way
Why was I thinking the same! Dani was trying her hardest lol
I saw at 4:16 Minji proclaiming 'But I'm not a patient' so I'll have to rewatch more to catch different references. I do like the song 🎵
Wow this actually makes a ton of sense identity wise for each member. I knew it was an overall commentary but the way you signified a concept to each member makes so much more sense. ❤
The lyrics said the same thing if we think hard enough.
(korean pronunciation of bunnies is banheesoo) WE are Heesoo. if ditto was the fan's perspective on the parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan, then OMG is the idol's perspective.
hanni's monologue in the beginning really brings that to light: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you"
it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed.
danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that feels pressured to always smile and laugh because that's what people expect out of her now. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene.
hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references)
haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat.
minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members.
i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.
This is the best explanation! Makes so much sense. I can't wait to see where this group goes, they really are game changers.
Do you think they're trying to tell us to stop pressuring them to be what they are not or is it just something they have gone through and laughed about.
wow i love this comment. It makes so much sense
Her best way is by saying she's an iPhone, with her reading fanmail, singing for the fans, talking to them etc.
oh my god this is a great interpretation
"Heesoo, please answer the call"
It’s kinda sad though. Idols are humans, but a lot of fans are so removed from the concept that the idols are humans too. Those fans treat idols like they treat phones, objects of entertainment and their servant.
Heesoo answer the call...
Basically when hanni calling on phoning and i as "heesoo" is not answering her phoning call cuz I'm in class
In short from what I understand: Ditto and Omg are related.
In OMG we see the parasocial relationship between fans and Newjeans, from Newjeans pov, as it shows how fans impact idol lives. Hani's line '' I'll run whenever you call me, I exist for you'' is a very important like to express Idols
- Haerin, who is always complimented for looking like a cat, now believes she is on.
-Minji misunderstands that she is a doctor, even though she is a patient herself, because she is always expected to take care of others as the oldest and mom of the group
-Daniel who is known for smiling a lot, is laughing at an empty Tv, but she is also the voice who pulls us to reality
-Hani, through the intro, she sets the tones of being an idol
- Hyein who is always complimented for being pretty, thinks now she is princess.
While in Ditto, the summerize shows how fans think of idols as their friends, and escape reality through kpop.
IMPORTANT DETAILS I found for the world building
_ in Ditto Side A 0:29 ( I'm not sure who is talking I think it's minji): ''kitty Kang'' Haerin: ''I'm not a cat''
'' what do you mean, kitty kang''
Kang being the last name of Haerin ( who believes she is a cat)
Also from ban heeseo channel (the girl from Ditto)
- Video '19981228' : the description says ''These day, Hyein's princess disease is so severe.
She keeps asking where to buy the glass slippers, which really upsets me''
-Video '19991229' : the description says ''It's a video I took in PE class, but I don't know if it could be used in a music video. I think the natural look is pretty. Hanni finally bought a phone. But I think I gave her the wrong phone number'' 3:33 you can see her sending a message to ban heeseo
My favorite part of the MV tho has to be 4:50 🤣🤣 she called herself a doctor and said she is not a patient, so when she entered the ambulance the look they gave her🤣🤣 '' you're not sane too''
Very detailed. I thought so too.
HAHAHAHA same my fav part is when they all go dead silent when Minji entered the ambulance😂
i think your comment is the most make sense, thanks a lot at least now i understand a bit
Literally my first reaction to Hanni, was "What in the Steve Jobs?! Why she dressed up as him?" Then she just says that she's an IPhone, and I straight up fell out my chair dying.
what in the Steve Jobs 🤣🤣
The end was Minji saying to all the haters behind the keyboard: "alright, time's up. Let's go back to your psych ward." 😂
Lmao xD
i really hope they actually didn't mean that, calling a internet troll a crazy troubled person is not a good look. hopefully they only meant that anyone who wants to comment and throw free hate and shade, it's time to stop and live your life.
Hipsters.
as a kpop fan since 2011, I totally agreeeeee
Yes they are the real deal
i love the "they keep asking me "who is he?"" because it's not as simple as "there must be a guy they like!" the reality is that there's a fan who is always on their phone watching their favorite idols and smiling and giggling, which makes the people around them ask "who is he?" thinking the fan must be talking to a guy they like for them to be smiling like that. but it's newjeans.
This blew my mind.
It's funny how usually PD is quite vocal when reacting to MVs, but when reacting to NewJeans' videos they have been unusually quiet.
Who is pd?
the guy who’s reacting to the video here
PD is in another level of confused haha can’t wait to see his reaction in NJ’s next MV.
@@kamaetis when is the next mv?
@@kamaetis PD uses they/them pronouns
The doctor is actor Kim Joo-Hun who has been in a few big K-dramas - Big Mouth, Its Okay To Not Be Okay and a cameo in AE Woo .
And the guy at the end who picks up the cartoon drawings on the pad is famous cartoonist/webtoonist Lee Mal Nyeon (aka Calm Down Man on YT). New Jeans were on his YT/Twitch stream for a live 90minute chat/dance/discussion with him and actor Joo Woo-jae straight after OMG was released. It has subtitles!
My Theory:
The biggest clue to whatever NewJeans is, is their icon: the white rabbit.
This is by far the most interesting and thought-provoking theory I've read so far, amazing analysis
OMG the white rabbit in alice in wonderland!!!!! 😮
This brings “cookie” into a whole different thing that the gross sense that’s been permeating the majority of the internet’s interpretation of it. Didn’t Alice ate those cookies to be able to change size and enter various places?
This is by far the BEST commentary about NewJeans's concept. Now I understand everything clearer.
Bun Heesoo = Bunnies, the Fanbase, NJ is talking to us.
definitely* defiantly is a whole other word! :)
@@satagraya
It's Ban Heesoo.. she has her own YT channel - 308k subs so she has her own silver award - 26 videos.
Loona has been doing this since 2017
NewJeans straight up putting people in genjutsu for this comeback. lol.

That's Hee soo
THATS SO CREEPY
Yeah i'm like "is my eyes playing trick on me"
Lol that’s actually us. The girl represents us:) we’re the creeps. Kinda makes sense since we’re all pretty much obsessed with all of these idols, analyzing their videos like we know them personally.
This mv is EVERYTHING, like literally. My take on this mv is that they are confuse with who they were really are as an idols.
Hanni - Iphone
Dani - Idol
Haerin - Cat
Hyein - Main Character in every Romantic trope stories
Minji - Doctor
The mv started with hanni actually explaining the whole concept of the mv.
But even energy of the girls.. is just so fun, but “OMG” add some complexity behind it.
honestly speaking i can't even consider them 4th gen anymore, but much more leading the 5th gen of kpop already, as you said they are doing something new and something different, i love their sound so much it's absolutely my cup of tea
i had no clue what was happening in the mv but I loved it
Saw a theory and I think it makes the most sense: the girls are the imagination of heesoo, the main character of the ditto mv’s.
Haerin - believed she was a cat because the Fandom keep tellin she looked like one
Minji - a doctor, the fandom keep telling she's the mother of the group that took care of the members.
Hyein and Dani's story
- The bear is the actually being referred as their fandom.
Minji thinks she is an doctor
Hanni thinks she is an iPhone
Haerin thinks she is a cat (we know she IS an cat)
Hyein thinks she is a princess
The only one who can slightly remeber is Danielle.
The girl in the last scene ist Heesoo. (from "Ditto")
The point that the real doctor see that drawing in the window, will show us that the imagination of the girls are real.
It all connects, what WE (live performances and appearances, attention, hype boy, cookie and hurt) HESOO (ditto shots) and the DOCTOR have experienced with new jeans, cause they are all happening at different times for ppl (just like we discover a group and watch their old stuff) but at the same time for NEW JEANS (cause they are replaying those moments stuck in time)
Let's look at them as as superior beings.ITS CRAZY GOOD
Here is a little explanation:
- Minji thinks she is a doctor (she tries to help the other patients)
- Hanni thinks she is an Iphone (sounds similar to Idol so she got confused)
- Danielle sees things others can't see (the only member who sees the cameras)
- Haerin thinks she is a cat (she even tries to eat cat food)
- Hyein thinks she is a princess (she thinks the bear is her prince)
PDs reactions to songs and MVs are the only ones I get excited for these days
I love this MV as well! The 4th wall break was so godly to me. I’ll leave the MV theories for other commentators to speculate on, as I’m not good with my words lol. OMG is such a good song, it’s been on repeat in my playlist ever since. NewJeans has a chokehold in me now TT
PD, you need to listen to FIFTY FIFTY! They’re a girl group that just debuted around a month ago and ALL OF THEIR SONGS ARE SO GOOD!!!! I highly recommend listening to their whole album which has 4 songs!
THIS ^^^ FIFTY FIFTY IS SO GOOD
The ending, minji (who thinks she’s a doctor and gathering all the pts into the ambulance throughout the mv) tells the hater “let’s go” bc you’re crazy and belong in the ward
Honestly I hate that part of the MV. If Min Hee-Jin is using that as a call out to her "haters" then she is seriously immature
Gotta love new jeans
minji said they practiced Attention for 2 years and never get boring of it.
Meta. Breaking the 4th wall. Asking about who we are. Who they are. Who we think we are. Who we think they are. What is real? What is our perceptions and assumptions. Reality is relative.
i love how pd mentions how he likes the lore they added in ditto and then omg mv the entire time they're like "wtf did i just watch"
hearing them slowly piece it together
"oh..does she think...she's a cat?"
I'm simply speechless and becoming even more and more interested in NewJeans
I love how they teased the choreography in ditto and added it to the mv also
The "they keep on asking me who is he" is stuck in my head. I would say the concept their going for is very self aware which is refreshing
YESS finally, ever since I watched this for the first time and she said "I'm an i-phone" I was like I need to see PD's reaction to this video.
never cared for kpop my whole life and somehow im obsessed with newjeans now lol
There's a "Ban Heesoo" YT channel where -they've- _she's_ been uploading clips of footage from the Ditto universe *every single day for the past 26 days* with little comments in the descriptions. Some are dated from as being from 1999 while others are dated from now. I don't exactly get it, but they're definitely doing some new interesting things for K-pop that's for sure.

lore wise i would like to have honorable mention to loonas world building that dwindled but i hope new jeans can tap into it more and as per the deductions i love the storyline so far
Im a month late but the actor is Kim Joo-hun. He's been in dramas like Big Mouth, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Its Okay to Not Be Okay and Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol
That was trippy. I wish we'll get a pattern soon and i hope there will be and this isnt just random weirdness in just 1 of their song. Make it a theme
Ooh here's my take on this:
This is Heesoo's "NewJeans" as captured in her videos from Ditto - this is Heesoo's imaginary NJ, complete with assigned characteristics. Some evidence:
- A few of the dance moves being the ones performed by the girls in Ditto (towards the end of the MV's bridge, where they interspersed the clips).
It's why their music is so different form any other group, it's why Hanni, Danielle, and Minji are allowed to write songs as rookies because it's something Kpop has never done before.
wow well explained 👍🏻
This MV freaking gives me don't hug me scared vibes.. OMG 😭
I've been waiying for this THANK YOU

So they are taking the patient back to room for treatment :)
ditto: fanside omg: ldol's side confused about their own identity but don't wanna wake up from this dream(attention's lyric) and last scene means their dreams come true (to people who think newjeans is a star)
the way they just talking about YOU! YES YOU!! on the other side of the screen🐇🧼
NewJeans music video is like a Netflix series that has episodes every week but for them the episodes are through their MV's.
Love the connection between ditto and omg. I was mentally screaming for him to mention the dance parts from ditto in here.
PDnim, I must admit it was very funny watching you be so flustered and confused through the first watch. It was exactly how I felt!
I've been waiting for your reaction!
When I first heard the song, I had to check the credits to see if Pharrell or Tyler the Creator was involved in the production, since it's something they might have produced, lol. Love the song.
Baby part is hearin voice 🥺 the cat in this music video 🐱
thought it was minji
isn't the one who says she's an iphone at the start? (don't know their names yet, sorry)
:O I thought it was Danielle.
@@srta_beca it’s weird cause she’s the one lipsyncing the line but it doesn’t really sound like her
@@srta_beca and that’s hanni ^^
In OMG music Video Emphasis on the pronounciation starting at 46 sec. Dahn? Dang?
It's one of the factors how OMG music video went viral after Min's emergency press conference because of this part.
Shin means God in South Korea
From beginning to the end it was each girl telling her story to the group. From an iphone, cat, princess, doctor, and pop star (member of new jeans).
Dahn World combines traditional Korean mythology and philosophy with modern spiritual practices, incorporating the story of Hwanung and the bear from the Dangun myth as a significant part of its teachings.
PD, the one that was doing the "Baby" is in fact a member of the group: Haerin

The only Shorts on this channel is so so scary.
If you invert the colors of the Shorts, it connects to the NewJeans ASAP music video. Red>>Green
The window in the Shorts is also similar to the window frame of the house (at 2sec) in the ASAP music video.
And behind the sound of gasping, 'Super Shy' plays in the background.
Ban JiYeon channel has tagged the Ban Heesoo channel 14 times.
In the Bible, the number 14 symbolizes liberation and freedom

The school where Ditto was filmed = 개성중학교 = the place where the national flag of South Korea and the Declaration of Independence were duplicated.
Note: In the begginning in the iPHone, she was dressed as Steve Jobs...
I think this is going to be something like GFRIEND with all the symbols and such that was running through the videos and no one knew they would tie together until Crossroads.... but here they are showing us that it will all come together sometime.
PD, this MV is DOLPHINER FILM apparently they are quite well known. That’s their crew in the MV when Danielle broke the 4th wall
The part when Hanni was talking to a wall represents the first part when she was taling to and ear in that steve jobs costume. Inside Hanni's head she's having a conversation through the Iphone but in reality she's just talking to a wall
You also mentioned Hyein "that cat appeared in the last video. Wait- does she think she's a cat?"
In ditto side A intro Heeseo was calling Hyein "Kang Kitty" then Hyein replied "im not a cat" that could symbolized Ditto was reality while while OMG is a figment of their imagination.
Also the part when the actor doctor was sitting in a corner then the people in the round table keeps changing I think its because of "im going crazy right" lyrics that says they all have mental conditions and tell different stories where their character changes as well meaning they find it hard to differentiate reality from imagination.
IM SO EXCITED TO WATCH i was dying to see your reaction
that "baby" part has been stuck in my head since the song came out, idk what it is about it damn
The answer to everything is simply “NewJeans live trough us and our needs”. It actually makes sense for Ditto and OMG, we’re questioning reality but I don’t think this is the point, your reality is simply what you believe on and what has an impact on you,… so NewJeans is part of your reality in whatever form you actually need (kind of like an iPhone, 😅)
At least that’s what I got from all of this
You need someone by your side like a companion, they can be a cat for you.
You need to escape reality, they are your fantasy world.
You need to heal from any pain, they are your doctor.
You need them with you through whatever small thing you do, they are your iPhone.
You simply need an idol to look up to, they are Newjeans.
🐰
The last person was Ban HeeSoo. Its all of us Fans
so here's the most shallow theory i could come up with: (copy pasted from my comment on the mv)
it's connected to ditto storyline .. they're in some sort of purgatory in a form of psychiatric hospital
each member has their own delusions,, like living in their own reality:
- hanni is an iphone. dont question her. she's living in some sort of virtual reality. she still tries to communicate with heesoo somehow even in afterlife, when heesoo finally moved on - that's what i'm getting with the 'Heesoo, please answer the call'
- minji thinks she's a doctor helping her friends out and not a patient herself.
(this is a very very shallow theory .. i only based on this mv and ditto story alone .. if someone could do a bit further research regarding psychology issues related to this, please do,, we would love to hear it .. for those who dug deeper by rewatching all of their mvs ,, please share your theories for i don't have time to do that lmfao, this is the theory i could come up with the limited time i have)
(feel free to use this theory as a reference or a starting point for your own, i'd love to hear other theories)
Definitely the most aesthetic
new jeans the best new group frfr
Now I understand Hyein is a mixture of princesses where in the end she is dead like in Romeo and Juliet, Danielle thinks they are members of New Jeans, Hanni is an Iphone, Minji is a doctor, Haerin is a cat. The individual parts I got, now I'm trying to theorize together with Ditto what that ending is, if they are in a parallel universe or it goes deeper than that.
I was looking forward to seeing this reaction for a while.
I been awaiting you to post this exact review lol
This is something that should have been addressed on UA-cam a long time ago.
oh also, the one doing the "baby" is Ipham~ and her singing prowess is unreal.
That actor is the agent for Ko Moonyoung in "It's okay to not be okay".
You recognize the actor at the beginning from It’s Okay to Not be Okay.
