@@ShabbyFabrics Ha ha - took you 4 years to say that :)
I love this Jennifer, so beautiful. Perhaps later on you could to a tutorial on how to do the version with the waistband ruffled, because that has less ruffles and I am not so good at doing them. I would have prefered the ruffled version to the straight, but both are just lovely. Thank you again for another wonderful tutorial.
That's a great idea! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
Thank you 😊 was a great day for me
So happy to hear that!
love this apron and just love your pincushion too will you be doing a tut for this? Thanks again for lovely apron pattern and tut
+pitmike1231 we don't have a tutorial for that pincushion but we have a pattern available for it: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Uptown-Debbie-Brown-Pattern-P35717.aspx
Jennifer I love the big pin cushion you have in this video. Is there any plans for a video on how to make this pin cushion? Love your tutorials. Thanks.
+Lynda Santiago thank you so much- we most likely won't do a video about it but we have the pattern available! Here is a link: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Uptown-Debbie-Brown-P35717.aspx
Just the pattern I was looking for! Thank you! You give wonderful instructions. Very detailed and you do not take it for granted that we all know these basic things. I would like to know how to do this pattern with a lining. I cannot figure out how to place the ruffle when adding the ling, or do I construct the ling first? Thank you so much!
You would add your lining after the ruffle is on the bottom but before the top band is added. You will place your lining fabric and main body fabric, right sides together. Then stitch around both sides and the top using a quarter inch seam allowance, then flip it right-sides-out so the lining is on the back. Then fold up the bottom raw edge inward and iron it in place so it it is finished and then top stitch around the entire thing :)
Hopefully, that is clear enough, but please let me know if you need any additional information!
You are wonderful! Thank you so very much! I would love to sit with you one day and just watch you! I'm making aprons with matching potholders and oven mitt for my sister for Mother's Day.
Wonderful tutorials, very accurate instructions. But I would like to know the brand of the iron, love the way it pops up to avoid burning. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching! That's an Oliso Smart Iron! - Morgan
By the way Jen, your hair looks great!!! :-)
Thank you! :) - Morgan
Great tutorial, Would you be able to give a tutorial on that large round pincushion on your desk also? It is adorable.
We might do a tutorial on the pincushion but just in case we don't there is a pattern available for it on our site Donna Brosky: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx
Sew Cute! By the way, I love your glasses😉😉😉
Thank you so much :)
LOTS of EXCELLENT tips!!! thank you!! I would have NEVER thought of most of that, all of it, in a million attempts!! Enjoy your videos. BTW we can not see what you are showing on the aprons behind you at all.
We're happy you enjoyed this tutorial! Thank you for watching!! We will keep your feedback in mind for future videos. 💕 -Michelle
i love your pin cushion do you have a video tutorial on that. I have made several aprons using this tutorial. Thank you
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment Cynthia Cooper! We do not have a tutorial for the big round pincushion but there is a pattern available on our site: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx
Hi! Great video, just love this channel! Just one question, when I learned to sew ruffles, we always sewed between the ruffel stitches. We were told that the reason was that the pressed foot didn't punch the fabric in front and the end result was even and nice. I suppose that different projects and sewing technics is used depending on where you from :).
+Pia Karlson you are right, the ruffle step can be left up to your own preferences! Thank you so much for watching!
Love this pattern thank you so much. I just want to know if you wash your fabric before sewing? Im just worried it will shrink when its time to wash specially when its for a gift. Thanks for sharing.❤️
We're glad you enjoy this fun project! Pre-washing fabric prior to project creation is a preference of some. There are a lot of factors to consider when decided whether or not to pre-wash your fabrics. Some people do enjoy the softer feel of pre-washed fabrics, but our standard practice here at Shabby Fabrics is to not pre-wash- we use a light spray starch (such as "Magic Sizing") and iron our fabrics before we cut them to size. You can get more of a collective opinion from our Facebook group of seasoned quilters before deciding: facebook.com/groups/shabbyfabricsquiltersgroup/ 💖 -Michelle
Jennifer, I love all of your videos and have learned so much. Can you tell me how you add the sweet ruffle to the waistband? I am making this apron and the matching the ruffled tea towels for my best friend. You’re awesome!
To make the top of the apron ruffled, you will use the same ruffling technique that was used for the ruffle on the bottom! Once you have it cinched to the point you like, you will assemble the rest of it as shown in the video :)
Love the cute aprons with the ruffles!! I have to know where your pink machine, and iron are sold? It's my favorite color !
The pink machine is a refurbished 1939 Singer Featherweight! You can see the whole rainbow of colors that are offered at deskdave.com (Jen's machine is in the color 'Rose petal pink'). The iron is an Oliso Smart Iron and can be bought from their website!
I agree I love ruffles too ❤️ and that was a very cute apron..... could you make a full apron next time .... Thanks
Thank you for your suggestion and for watching!
Your welcome ❤️
Love this pattern, I love aprons. I wear them all the time. Can you make a no tie apron you slip on?
We're so glad to hear this! And thank you for the suggestion! I'll let our video team know about your request. - Morgan
Love this! But I really love your little sewing machine...would love to know where you got it???
Hi LaDean! Jen's machine in this video is a Singer Featherweight that she had powdercoated pink! Thanks for watching!! -Michelle
What kind of iron are you using? It popped up after pressing your fabric. How clever!
That is the Oliso TG1600 Smart Iron! You can shop our selection here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/search?sortOrder=6&q=Oliso+smart -Michelle
love these videos. what kind of iron is that? I saw it and didn't realized it lifted itself.
+Darkestic thank you for the love! It is called a "Smart Iron" and it is pretty cool! Here is a link to the company's website: www.oliso.com/smartiron/
Thank you!! Love watching ur videos. :) looking forward to future episodes :)
I’m very late to finding your channel. Where do I find an ironing board like the one use in this video? I need that in my life! Thank you
So glad you found us! We made that ironing board, actually! Just some plywood, layers of batting, and a cute fabric over the top, stapled to the back of the plywood. It's a really fun project and you can make it any size you need. - Morgan
lovely
Thank you so much!
I love your sewing machine, is it singer sewing machine? I love pink ❤️
Yes, this is a Singer Featherweight that Jen had powder coated pink. We do love our faithful Singers, but we're currently sewing on a Bernina 770 QE. Thank you for watching! 💖 -Michelle
Where did you get your pink sewing machine and iron?? I love them!!
The pink sewing machine is Jen's Singer Featherweight that she had specially powder coated with the pink color. They can be found second-hand online or in vintage shops. :) The pink iron is a "Smart Iron" from Oliso. Thank you for watching! - Morgan
I would love to see how to ruffle the top. Yes, the straight version took less time but ruffling the top is more difficult and I'd like to understand how.
So if I ruffle the top (like we do for the ruffle) what should the final length be for the top? It starts at 19" so perhaps ruffle until it's 17"?
That would really be up to you! A finished width of 17" would probably give a nice, subtle ruffle :)
is a french seam not possible/recommended for where the apron and ruffle are attached?
In order to add a french seam to this apron where the ruffle is attached, you'd need to add a lining piece! That's why we didn't use a French Seam here. :) - Morgan
I love your pink sewing machine! Which brand and model is that?
Hi Simone! This machine is a Singer Featherweight. Jen had it customized by getting it powder coated in that adorable pink shade! -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics I love it!!! Thank you for your quick reply! Happy sewing!🧵🪡💖
How can I gather the waist band part of this apron?🤗 Do you show that somewhere? Thank you!
Hi Susan, Jen goes into great detail on the ruffle beginning around 11:10. Hope that helps! -Bethany
I would like to buy the beginning pack on applique
+gene sochia awesome! Here is a link to our 9-piece applique kit: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Shabby-Fabrics-Applique-Kit-9-Piece-P11975.aspx
Where did you get that cute sewing machine?
Hi Shirley - That machine is a Singer Featherweight that is powder coated pink. -Michelle
Thank you for a very clear and enjoyable tutorial. I would use stitch witchery fusible web on that edge piece where the ruffle is attached to the apron, just to keep it in place and this way there are no extra stitches showing on the front and floppy seam.
Thank you for watching! Great ideas! - Morgan
Do you prewash your fat quarters since they usually shrink?
We haven't pre-washed fabric in years, because we've found buying good quality fabric and precuts from manufacturers like Moda or Maywood Studio ensures our fabric doesn't shrink or fray. If you're using a variety of different fabrics, it might be a good idea to pre-wash. - Morgan
do you wash all fabrics before sewing?
We personally do not find that they need to be pre-washed. High-quality fabrics don't distort or bleed in the wash so pre-washing really is just a matter of preference :)
How is the ironing board made?
Hi Anna! It's just an ironing mat that we purchased (we can't remember where). - Morgan
Can you still get free pattern?
Yes! You can find it on our Free Downloads page (along with all of our other free patterns) and I've also included the direct link to the diagram here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/CountryKitchenRuffledApron_forDownload.pdf
- Morgan
why
not use pinking shears?
You are more than welcome to use pinking shear if you'd like :) Thanks for watching!
This pattern is no longer free????
It is! You can find it on our Free Downloads page: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Free-Downloads.aspx -Michelle
Its sad to me that aprons are now a fashion piece rather than being practical. How I wish we were back in simpler times, in the era of homesteading where aprons served their purpose time and time again. ❤️
Hi Emily! We're not quite sure what you're seeking, but we do have a newer version of a patchwork style apron here: ua-cam.com/video/0eroaTs_Wdk/v-deo.html - 💖 Michelle
will this fit a large lady
There is an option to make more sections for the waistband nor gre! Around 1 minute and 27 seconds she begins to give the instructions for cutting the waistband! I hope that helps to clear up your question.
Fat quarter? Never heard that term.
A fat quarter is a quarter of a yard cut so that it is 18"x21" rather than 9"x42". It is a very useful size in quilting as many new fabric collections are released in Fat Quarter sets to you can get a nice sampling of a collection without buying yards and yards of fabric! You can see our full selection here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Fat-Quarter-Sets-C88.aspx
Watched this because I like aprons and this is a nice one but what caught my eye was that beautiful pink sewing machine and was l disappointed when you only used it for 2 seconds. I could listen to it all day.
The sewing machine is amazing, thank you. - Yajaira
