Great comparison. Both excellent choices! For the record, hardware on the JWK knives is Ti! That thwack you hear on the bexar is when the blade hits the stop pin. One of the reasons why I prefer not to use them. But they do have their pros!
Excellent video. I have the Sharpshooter, and I am waiting for the JW Javelina to be released. I also grabbed a Pena Apache Knifecenter exclusive slipjoint in K390, it is awesome! I really want to grab a Bexar, but hesitant because of all the bad QC stories.
I love both of these knives and have contemplated buying, but I get so much utility out of the SAK Cadet I can’t pull the trigger. I always carry a locking blade as well. The Tactile is my fav.
Thanks for the comparison, Kev. I do own the Jack Wolf Sharpshooter with green micarta and love it. I am looking forward to receiving the Tactile Bexar. Thanks again for your help recently with my purchases. Love your videos.
My #1 slip would be the GEC 47, the Wolf Laid Back, Sharpshooter and my Viper Swayback all tied for first, I returned the Tactile because it was just too thin with too much blade flex for me (beautiful knife but too slim with too much movement).
I own both the fat carbon and OD green micarta variants of the jack wolf knives sharpshooter, and I think the best thing about these knives is easily their absolutely impeccable fit and finish. Well that, and their blades with their full hollow grinds!!
I think Tactile upped their QC lately. I just got their limited edition one that came with a bead, slip, and pen. Centering is perfect and is very sharp. Mine at least.
Nice, I really like slipjoints would like to get a more modern slipjoint the jack wolf is nice but never spent that much on a knife yet ! Any suggestions on a more affordable slipjoint!
Both are beautiful and well made, for me if I was to buy one I'd go with the tactile as personally I just like the clean look better. Both are awesome though and quality on both is amazing. Thanks for the look see Kevin and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Great video, and a thoughtful, interesting comparison. One thing... just about every review I've seen about a Tactile knife mentions having to send the knife back for one issue or another. (Detent ball falls out, doesn't lock up, chipped or off-centered blade, etc.) Maybe Tactile's QC isn't great?
Yeah I’ve heard that too but remember they’re essentially a brand new knife company so will have teething problems, but at least if people have some issues they are apparently fixed straight away, no questions asked. And the more U.S. companies offering blades at $200-$300 (unlike the other goudgers) the merrier 👍🏻
@@BenBelkin Yes, talking with you on IG is why I bought the Bronco 😀 Ok, thought the Bronco would! Btw, looking forward to when you release the Benny's Clip.
My Bexar came dull also. Not a big deal because I'm going to put my own edge on it anyway. Sometimes my hands get oily or sweaty. A decent nail nick would have been appreciated. Why would i choose the Bexar? I really like the steel. I own several knives with M390. My first M390 was a Bradford Guardian 3. Great knife and a great steel. I've since bought a Meglio 8" gyuto and a Bradford 3.5 sheepsfoot in magnacut. Do I prefer one over the other? Yes, the magnacut. It's more of a challenge to sharpen. I enjoy sharpening. For me it's a meditative process. I put everything else aside and I just focus on putting my edge onto my knife.
I think hes getting what he deserves for running a business as well as he does. And yes the China made knife is just better imo. I call em like I see em.
My dlc bexar was not the sharpest, which doesn’t bother me as much as the difference in perceived width of the titanium scales. Looking at the underside you can see how the flat edge around the scales is not even giving the look of one scale being thinner than the other. Also there is a what looks like a machining error on the underside which makes the blade “look” centered but also contributes to the scale widths being different, along with different size radii around the edges of the scales. I would expect much better uniformity for 300$.
Am I biased cause I love Ben, yeah…. But I’m pretty objective 😂 😂 So you can get the Bexar in either Magnacut or 20CV so that kinda washes the blade steel out entirely. Bexar better looking all day, that shape and micro milling is so sexy bro. Fun review. 👍
Perceived value should have included the consideration of warranty. Tactile has a lifetime warranty and Jack Wolf knives don’t carry a formal warranty at all.
I perceive it differently than you haha. Ben will stand behind his knife for as long and as best as he possibly can but i lifetime warranty if you think about it is the same thing. What happens if Tactile goes out if business? No more lifetime warranty. 😂. Its just a sales pitch. But i get it, reassurance.
Kev, still not into the slippies. I appreciate the design and beauty of the Jack Wolf Knives, but they don't really have a place in my carry because of what I use my knives for. Good video though.
If I did buy one it would be the Tactile. A) USA made B) more attractive I cannot deal with the mega clip point or the upswept tip of the Jack. Lefty.. thought you hated clip points and uppity tips? What you showed clearly is the sharpshooter has a few great qualities, and the bexar isn’t perfect
Thanks for the connect on Northwood! I got one and two for a buddy!
Awesome

I have both and been waiting for you to do this!
Perfect I was thinking about both of those as my first modern traditional.
EPIC!! Love them both, glad I didn't have choose lol

Great battle👌👍

Not really for slipjoints. What about the artisan one from Mallery designs

Happily agree here
Nice battle! Which one has a stronger pull, the Sharpshooter or the Pena Bronco?
Having owned the bronco I can promise you the bronco has a heavier pull

Great video @leftyEDC I’d be super interested to know the same deal between the jack wolf knives vs the new Peña x series slip joint !?
2 very good looking knives. personally I like the look of the jack wolf a bit more. Great comparison 👍
👍✌
You ever hear the "walk & talk " on that bone handle slip joint from Twosun? Now I don't you don't like Twosun... 😂.....
Nope
Made in China beats Made in America yet again. Surprisingly manufacturing costs are less in China. Mr. Wolfe is getting a big taste, I'd imagine.
