Amid domestic challenges and tensions with Kosovo, Serbia held snap parliamentary elections on Sunday. While the preliminary elections show a win for the incumbent government, the opposition appears to disagree, and disputes the outcome of the elections. In this video, we take a look at why Vucic called the elections, the results, and what another Vucic victory means for Serbia.

As a non-native speaker I must give compliment to this guy, as he's the easiest to understand.
Perfectly clear voice and articulation.
If you have an questions, feel free to ask. And enjoy Serbia. :)
As a native speaker yeah it's ok if a little flat / mono tone.
But he's only just started so give it time.
@@TheWebstaff You should hear us Czechs speak English. 😀 We have pretty much zero intonations in language and we naturally tend to speak that way in english as well. So flat is an enormous bonus for me.

I like rhoticism, though. 🙁
Never boycott elections. All you do is say loud and proud that you give the vote to your opponent.
I came here to talk about this. I think I've heard about at least 20 election boycotts all around the world since WW2, and not once have I heard about them working.
What if the elections are organised by rebels?
If you vote, you implicitly acknowledge that the rebels have legal authority.
@@andrejparunovic6888 by voting in the elections you have a chance to steer democracy. Rebels don't have enough votes to defeat legit politicians. If you boycott the election, you give the other side legitimacy by letting them not only control the apparatus, but handing them the outcome they want.
I feel like one should only organize mass vote boycotts if there is some legal minimum voter turnout threshold required to avoid the election being rerun. Then, you can threaten the leaders with infinite reruns unless they guarantee fair elections.
@@ethancoltrane5754 what if all along it was 99% fair, so what you are saying reruns unless/until the opposition wins? its just dirty losers that cant deal with the facts is all it is witch just confirms they are weak just like their woke policies they wanna do hence they do good in Belgrade where ppl are westernised beyond measure already. "Media freedom"
"Ban on tabloid media"
Lmao, what a movement, totally sensible.
It is if you actually have context. All of the tabloids are defacto government mouth pieces, using the fact they're tabloids to get away with pieces and headlines which flagrantly trample all over journalistic standards and can easily be interpreted as calls to violence or retaliation against the opposition.
Based
What they thought is low quality journalism, false information spreading, sensationalism, character assassination done for the government. That's what we describe as "tabloid media".
Free them of work by banning them. :D

Great narrator, good job.
Wow excellent narration-huge upgrade from the usual, which is almost unwatchable. Consider making this a more permanent switch?! 🤞🏼
Serbia is being told to accept the reality that a part of its territory should be made into a separate country, by the same group of nations who deny the very same right to the Serbs who live in Bosnia and Croatia. In Bosnia Serbs even, de facto and de jure by the international law, have a republic within a republic, which is a step that is one level above what Albanians have had in Kosovo. So why is it that sovereignty and territorial integrity are sacred, when it comes to Serbs desiring to separate from other countries, but for some reason Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity are irrelevant when it comes to a national minority wanting to separate from Serbia?
Also one small addendum to the point about self determination and decolonization; even if we were to apply these principles to Kosovo, which is not an outlandish proposition despite the fact that Kosovo is not in Africa, there is one key important thing that makes Kosovo different to both former colonies in Africa AND Kurds in Kurdistan: Kosovo is inhabited by ethnic Albanians. People who already have a free and sovereign nation state called Albania. This UN principle literally doesn't apply to them in any way shape or form.
The only way to avoid the feeling of resentment and hypocrisy is to stop promoting double standards. Pick one principle - either soverignity and territorial integrity - OR absolute right to self determination and apply it everywhere all at once. So if Kosovo has the right to separate, automatically, so do the Serbs in Bosnia and Croatia.
But now this mess that you people (Westerners) have made is even bigger. Because guess what? Russians are also looking at what youre doing. And making a completely logical argument based on that. If Kosovo can, so can Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhie, Kherson, Kharkov, Sumy, Chernigov etc etc etc. Lets see where this brave new world takes us!

"Demand media freedom, ban on tabloid media" Are they truly calling for both of those? Because that's pretty contradictory.
It isn't contradictory at all here. Tabloid media here is a tool for Vučić propaganda, smear campagns and fake news. Plus, he controls all 3 national TV stations in Serbia, plus many cable TV stations. How do media freedom and a ban on tabloids co-exist?
This is the only part of the video I have a problem with.
They are against tabloids having national frequencies. TV channels with national frequencies are available all over Serbia, while other channels are part of cable packages and whatnot. Basically TV channels with national frequencies are the most easily accessible channels in Serbia.
The problem is that the regulatory body that decides who gets the nat. frequencies is giving it to trash tabloid tv channels. Both the regulatory body and those tabloids are controlled by Vucic. To all people who are not from Serbia, imagine this.
You get 700 euros..your bills are around 150 and you need at least 350 euros for your food basket on a monthly basis. Where are occasional new clothes? A car downpayment? A trip somewhere? Extra money for your kids? Tons of other stuff you may need the money for..
Around 80% live from salary to salary, scraping by.
