Before & after quick clip of my Spector Euro5lx. First with the Bartolini pickups and then the EMG 40 DCs I had installed. Optima strings and an Ampeg BA110 was used.
I’m usually a Bartolini fan, but the Emg’s definitely sound better in any Spector to me. Much more growl! Congrats on an awesome sounding Spector bass!
Ya man, the EMG's have more growl. Barts sound great, but a bit too Stanley Clark to cut a rock gig. EMG ALWAYS seem to have more open mids and even volume to my ears. Word up on this quick test Ivan!
Thanks for the comment. There was a mistake at the time by the tech that did the swap. He left the 500k pots so it was too muddy. I had Evan Gluck fix the issue and apply the appropriate 25k pot and it solved the issue. She sounds perfect. I'm an EMG guy strictly. I'm gonna have to do an update to this video soon enough.
@@kadaj110 I'm not sure which ones to go with yet. My Ibanez has the Bartolini BH2s in it. They sound fine but I want to bring out more aggression in the bass. Which ones are in your Specter?
@@drphalanges1520 go with the 40 DCs. They'll definitely have that growl your looking for. An EMG preamp would greatly helps as well. Look into the BQC.
Hey man great video. I have an Ibanez sr 300-wk and I'm looking into install emgs 35 DC.Would they work with the Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band eq preamp?
@@p.stefmusic4945 yes. Are the stock pickups active? If you're switching from passive to active pickups, you need 25k volume pots. Just want to make sure whats inside your bass cavity.
Well it was an older video and I wasn't aware of the high gain the tech left it at when he switched to the EMG set. He didn't swap the 500k pots for the 25k like he was supposed to hence the super dirty overdriven sound. I found out about it months after I had uploaded the video. I plan to do an update soon enough. Thank you for your opinion. 🙏
I didn't realize at the time posting this that the guy I took it to did the mod incorrectly. He installed the active EMGs but never swapped the pots so that's why the later setup sounded muddy.
@@aaronmajchen982 I had the highs about halfway or flat with the lows boosted. I'm gonna make another video once I swap the pots. I havent used the bass since because of it.
Totally agree with this! The Bartolini's "breathe" more, sound more organic. The EMGs have that growl going but still manage to sound dull and almost compressed.
You want "highs" in a bass guitar? Yeah see how that translates against a rock guitar and drumset. A true pro gets the most mids they can out of bass to cut thru, which emg delivers on
I’m a big fan of both Bartolinis and EMGs.
For this particular bass, I definitely prefer the EMGs.
Both sound great but the stock Barts seem to be extremely well fitted for this bass body and construction combination.
Depending on what one needs, I agree. For me, EMG has always worked out in any situation.
I’m usually a Bartolini fan, but the Emg’s definitely sound better in any Spector to me. Much more growl!
Congrats on an awesome sounding Spector bass!
Thank you very much! And yes, I agree with EMG's going much better with Spector.
I dig the EMG pickups more than the Barts.
There’s that sexy bass. Phil Spector
Holy shit I recognize you from the Darkglass Facebook group.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the page brother!!! I still swear by my AOU.

Thanks man. Yeah I favor the mids that EMG provides. Really gives me my sound along with Ampeg's mids.
Man you went from a great crispy tone to muddy unusable sound.
Back to the barts I‘d say.

I see you in the Darkglass Facebook group all the time. I'm thinking about putting some EMGs in my Ibanez multiscale. Do you like these?
What EMGs are you considering for your Ibanez? What's the pickup configuration on it?

Yes they should. Just make sure you use 25k volume pots.

Expensive bass, expensive amp, expensive pickups BUT NO CHEAP MIC?! Come on man! :)
You shouldn't of use your camera phone can barely hear what your playing 🙄
It's an old video. Working with the lemons I had at the time. Thank you for the critique!
You made Spector sound pretty bad.

Bartolini is for players with professional right hand technique...

Ha! 😂
Wow, you seriously downgraded your tone. Those EMG's have no nuance, no definition in the mids or highs.
To be fair, I wasnt aware the tech at Sam ash didn't replace the 250k pots with 25k active ones so they were really harsh on the top end.
@@kadaj110 Interesting, that didn't translate on UA-cam. I assume you had the highs rolled off?

No offense, but his skill level and playing ability is not up to par with the quality of that bass.
