Dual DC or P5/DC is the best of these 4. But if you have time, please try keeping DC in the neck and swapping out the others in the bridge. It'd bring all the possibilities of the setups. Thank you
That how you do it! Thank you for the video. 🎉 Dual DCs are so brutal on a Spector! EMG's are solderless, so you can switch the pickups easily, thats very convenient. I'm still waiting for my USA Spector to be finished... ❤
I can’t like this enough!!! I’m putting a 40P5 in the neck and 40DC in the bridge positions along with the BQC in my passive MK5. I like that combo but I’d admit the traditional 40P5 with 40J sounds the best for all styles, but mostly the slap. Please join Spector Bass Nation if you haven’t already!
My pick would be the DC/P5 combo. However, I'd take it a step further and combine the P5 with a TW on the bridge, so I'd get the bridge J sound option on top. Not sure if the TW in humbucker mode sounds like the DC or not.
You're right, the fret buzz is too much for a clean tone, but it works great with distortion for my taste. I mostly use this bass with distortion, for metal.
I have a variety of combinations in my Spectors but the 40P5/40DC is my go to (I have this setup in 4 of my Spectors). I have the 40P5/40TW in my Rebop 5 and I'm not thrilled with the TW at the bridge - I'm going to swap it with a DC. I have an NS-JH5 with an actual J and 40DC and it sounds killer too. I also just recently modded an MK5 with a 40TW/40DC and an LHZ pre and it sounds fantastic too! But personally, I can't stand the DC at the neck. It's too scooped sounding for my taste.
Thanks, I'm glad You like the sound! I used an EBS Multicomp and an EBS Microbass 3 preamp for the clean sound. The "Bright" and "Character" switches was ON. For the distorted sound I used the same compressor and preamp, the Microbass was in parallel with a Sansamp BassDriver DI V2 and an HX Stomp. At the end of the chain was a Darkglass B3K. I hope this helps some.
Hi! The onboard preamp was flat in every samples. In the fingerstyle and slap samples i used an EBS microbass III, bass and treble sligtly boosted, bright switch was OFF, character switch was ON. The signal chain of the third sound sample is much more complicated, there are three parallel paths, but the main elements are the same EBS preamp, a Sansamp Bass driver DI and a Darkglass B3K. I hope it is useful for You.
This is the funny part. I used Warwick Red label nickel strings for the recording. Very underrated strings, but I like them. I think they are good for the price.

This is great and helped a lot!
This is how every pickup comparison video should be. Bravo! Love the p5 and dc combo.
Thanks! I am glad you like it! 😊
PUMPA! Ráleltem, mondom mi ez a jó szand és Te voltál! Kurva jó!
Te Vagy egy kurva jó!
I liked 40p5 40dc, awesome tone
The tone is crazy! 🤯🤯
Thanks for doing this! It's interesting to hear how the sounds changes drastically and P5 takes over once you replace the DC with a J.
That P with the DC just has that punchy funk thing going on!
Lots of low mids without so much sub rumble, I wonder what a double p would sound like!

Dual 40DC was my favorite.

Thanks bro! I've already joined the SBN club ;)
Great comparison, just what I was looking for. I have a medium scale Spector Bantam with dual 40DCs. I've got a 40P5 on the way for the neck.
All of the options sound Gnarly

Good job!!! I used 40j-cs - neck and 40dc bridge, preamp hazlab, bass Spector rebop 5 dlx ex zebrano!
The fret buzz is killing me. Dual Bart P in a 40dc shape would be my go to with an Aguilar preamp.

For me it is between the dual DC or the DC + P5. Lots of bottom end with some grit with the dual DC but more character with the Dc + P5
Thanks alot bro ! I wanted to change mu dc 40 for j style pickups! But you changed my mind 😅🤘
You're very welcome :D
The dc's work great in Spector basses. I also prefer them in this bass and in my genre.

Could you give us a slice of gear, chain and settings you use? Sounds absolutely gorgeous.

@@LisztmajerAdam chaining drives vor the high freqs always does the job 🙌 absolutely great tone!
P with DC
I used 40P neck and 40tw bridge in 18v
Awesome! Would be my pick as well, Do you know if the TW sounds similar to the DC in humbucker mode? When split, it should sound like the J, right?
What are your tone settings on the bass and external preamp?

@@LisztmajerAdam ha! I got them on mine too!

Raise your action. All I can hear is fret buzz.
