I actually quit Minecraft because I was scared I’d find Herobrine. Every cave sound I heard resulted in me deleting the world. Because of Minecraft’s eerie atmosphere when you first start the game, I still to this day swear I see something lurking within the trees. Maybe one day Mojang will remove Herobrine; he keeps adding himself back in our thoughts and childhood trauma.
I see the reference here.

Herobrine is like an old ghost story that’s passed down from generation to generation of players.
My girlfriend’s brother is younger than the legend of Herobrine; he’s about 10. At one point I spent a whole day setting up a prank where in a realm, I put signs around his base, took leaves off of his trees, and renamed a zombie to Herobrine. Cue me jumping into the pit containing the zombie with no gear over and over again, showing a death message of “Lavinia was slain by Herobrine”.
Kinda freaked him out. He started fortifying his base.
I think it’s a fun story. A cryptid that most adults know isn’t truly real, but we tell children the stories anyway, because it’s a fun tale to tell.
Herobrine literally started as our childhood go to horror figure, now? He is like a friend we met when we were young but never got to "play" with him again. Thinking about the old good times

Honestly it’s nice to still see him mentioned. Heck I think it would be kinda neat if they made him canon in source books but just never put him in.
Minecraft certainly used to have a more creepier feel to it in the early days. I assumed Herobrine was fake, because the "reports" of seeing him seemed fabricated to me, but it always still sorta creeped me out that maybe there could _possibly_ be something to it. Especially considering - as mentioned - things were more glitchy back then.
I remember playing very early pocket edition with my siblings years ago. While they weren't looking, I dug a cave with a sign in it called Herobrine's base, and changed my name to Herobrine and attacked them, saying that Herobrine had possessed my character, and that I couldn't do anything. They were terrified, and kept trying to kill me in hopes of removing Herobrine from the world. They were very mad when they learned I was trolling them...

I think Herobrine is the best way to attest how terrifying Minecraft could be back in the alpha. This is all reinforced by how uninviting Minecraft actually was on its visual presentation. I know it was limited in all its capabilities as it was pretty much one guy or a fistful at best, but in every way the game just hits with very odd vibes as if not even the textures fit with each other. The grass for example having a more yellow-ish color as if it had dried up and withered, a mostly empty world and an ominous fog that only reminds me of Silent Hill. All of these things always gave the impression that something was very, very wrong, and Herobrine embodied that perfectly as one always would have the feeling of being observed.
Theory:- The 2 People who talk at the end after defeating Ender Dragon are, Herobrine and Notch.
They spawned us in a game of survival, the mobs were under control of Herobrine and the player, under Notch.
We spawned there from mcsm(minecraft story mode) . The world is infinite because and no other builder because you were spawned in an alternate dimension

I made a whole transition system consisting of beacons and guarding golems.

The version of Herobrine that I heard about was around 2012, when the 'removed Herobrine' updates were common. The story went that Herobrine was some sort of self-replicating virus that kept installing itself into Minecraft games, hence the constant attempts to remove it. Although I didn't completely believe the stories, you're totally right that early Minecraft was mysterious and unknown enough that you'd never know for sure... My friends and I used to troll each other by downloading Herobrine skins and scaring each other, it was a lot of fun.
There are some creators who have made whole stories based off him! My favorite, and one that I return to every so often, is Rejected Shotgun. I remembered their videos when I was zoning out in high school and re-watched their whole series. I suggest watching them too, they put a whole lot of effort into their story and they even have bloopers of their later works.

@dōmagender I still have the irrational fear of Herobrine (the ambient roaring sounds in the caves still creeps the shit out of me)
I'm 15 and refuse to play minecraft on my own
Something odd- I swear a long time ago I was playing on Minecraft Xbox 1 Edition (yes that is what it is called and is still on the Xbox 1 to this day) I had a friend who had a world, strangely enough named "Zombie Herobrine".
Now, at this time I knew who Herobrine was, and didn't believe them when they said that this crazy "Zombie Herobrine" was a thing. However all of a sudden it started thundering, I thought they just changed the weather, until I was looking at of a window in a building they made and it appeared. Right in my face. For like a split second, and then gone. I started screaming, realizing that what they said was true.
Now, in the Minecraft we know today, this could've been a data pack, commands, hell even changing the textures. But this was in a Minecraft where none of that was possible. And it wasn't just a normal zombie, or zombie villager. It was literally half Steve, half zombie, but with pure white eyes. And this repeated. Over and over. Apparently he was most common in the Nether, but my friend's game would crash if they went into the Nether (I recall this actually did happen, but they could've just backed out of the game) And as much as I wanted to go in, I backed out.
We played on that world a few more times, each time Zombie Herobrine appeared, I would scream, he would (oddly enough) chuckle. This repeated until my friend suddenly stopped playing with me. They would never come on Xbox again, and no matter how many times I messaged them, they never responded. I gave up after a few weeks of messaging, thinking maybe they got bored of Xbox or something. They never even told me why.
Looking back I really wish I could go back in time and redo this whole experience as who I am now. I remember making a video of it, but about a year ago I went through all of my photos and videos and cleared out over half of them, sadly also deleting this one too. Call me a liar in the replies, but I swear this did happen.
Dude i really hope they add him for a Halloween update just for a few days. It could be like a limited time event in minecraft where every player’s world has a Herobrine shrine generated and they have to go on a hunt for him. He stalks the player while on the hunt till it all eventually leads up to the player killing him. That would be so cool. He could drop like an enchanted apple.
I remember playing the pocket edition of minecraft with my younger siblings years ago, I used to change my name to Herobrine, then find a Herobrine skin and put it on to scare them, I did it several times and they never figured out it was me doing it, good times

Herobrine never did anything vicious or messed up the player. All he did was hide in the cover of the fog, dig tunnels in mountains, take the leaves from trees, and build sand pyramids.
Tell me, what kind of villain has "Hero" in their name?
Maybe all he was trying to do was get the players attention. Even that creepy human eye Steve thing didn't seem harmful.
Sure, if you read it with a certain tone it could sound antagonistic and villain like, but if you read it with the thought of him being worried, it sounds like he's just trying to help you out of some comatose state you're in.

People back in 2010-2013 would see terrain glitches and blame it on Herobrine, now with les terrain glitches and science we can prove it wrong. Same can be said about ancient civilizations, Egyptians would think floods were caused by gods, now we know it's just nature.

I infact actually had found said weird tunnel once upon a time on a survival world, when I was little and of course believed everything I saw on the Internet, I remember I was genuinely upset finding a perfect 2x2 tunnel that went on for just a little too long, lemme tell you that gave me an actual adrenaline rush
Me and my cousin would always try to “summon” him with a cave filled with lava and placed a sign down to “welcome” him. I miss it so much
I remember playing with my brother when we were younger and herobrine would always be our greatest fear to run into him. Also who remembers those old Dark Corners videos where he said he found herobrine?
I hope in the Minecraft movie at some point they have Herobrine standing in the background as an Easter egg.
When I was a kid Herobrine was terrifying. But it also added a strange thrill to the game. When a glitch happened me and my friend we would scream and shut off our tablets and ipads but then giggle at the fact that we might’ve seen Herobrine. Obviously as we got older we learned it was fake but the idea that he _could_ be real and was watching over us was deeply creepy.
for real tho. many times my brother and I would genuinely set up an ipod in front of the tv and record in case a glitch were to happen again. we actually uploaded some of them I think, so embarrassing, but so wholesome. i think there was one time we actually deleted a world bc we thought herobrine was in it and were scared. good times.
when I was a child I was scared if farlands creature or entirety 303
You guys know what when i was playing mincraft as i was playing it i was morning and like so quik turnd night so fast i was so scared 😣😣😣😥
Then you'll love these two stories of mine.
Firstly, something simple, but odd.
I was playing some Pocket Edition, digging a strip mine.
Dug for a while and decided to return, so I turned around and walked towards the exit.
I could've sworn I saw the shade of the fog change, but shrugged it aside.
Finally I was met with a dead end, which I thought was just me accidentally turning around somehow.
So, I turned around again to test that theory.
Turns out I never turned around and my strip mine, on single player, was blocked off by two stone blocks.
I didn't have stone on me, I never looked back when mining, and it was just two blocks, not a chunk resetting.
Like someone tried locking me in the mine.
Second is a lot more eventful and quite recent.
To set the stage, I was testing some mods in survival to see how balanced gameplay was.
For the fun of it, I used a seed with religious language because I like writing random seeds.
Spawned in a nice world and all was fine, so I went through the basics of building a farm, base, and mine.
When I dug my mine, I stumbled upon a cave system, but saw no mobs.
Thought it was pretty neat as I could grab materials peacefully for a while, but the mobs never came.
I had collected enough, so I headed back up for some iron upgrades before diving back down.
When I got back down, I saw multiple spots of mob drops, but still no mobs.
After exploring the cave more, I found a part of the system that was not yet easily accessible, but did have mobs.
However, when I broke that part open to start mining there, the next time I entered the drops started appearing again and the mobs started showing up less and less.
So, in the middle of all this, I decided to jokingly build a cobblestone cross on top of my base.
Right when I placed down the last block of the cross, my screen turned red.
After all that, I had already placed several trapdoor barriers in the mine entrance and a double door to the base, but felt like looking around my base for interesting things.
One thing I found was a mine entrance dug into a hill that stopped after a few blocks, aimed directly towards my base.
On the other side of the lake I settled next to I found a cross in the ground, which is normal terrain generation, but if you aligned North as the top, it was upside down.
None of the mods are made to do such things and later attempts at replicating the experience failed, despite the exact same mods and similar seeds.
It's dissapointing to what's become of the legend now. He's a satire clown working for the uneducated masses of children, just something to get views. People have made him the shell of a dead man, if you know what I mean
I feel Herobrine fits into the lore. He's an ancient builder who found the secret to immortality and was outskirted for showing off, making him haunt players.
edit: wow this blew up. i dont think this is canon but thanks for the likes :D
Low-key want that to be a real thing. Make him into an either summon able or rarely found boss that wields Diamond or Netherrite equipment and has bunch of illager minions and he'd use bows or crossbows for long range, swords for close, also potions like the witches for buffing self and weakening the player
His HP would be at 20 like the player, but he'd have before mentioned armour
@Pain681 I'd prefer the armor so the armor piercing stat would have an use outside of pvp
no, he found the secret to creative mode
@@My0ldFr13nd they should make him somewhat like the phantoms where it shows up after not sleeping for a while make him a learning AI use some of that microsoft tech
@@My0ldFr13nd i think it would be cooler if instead of standing out with a huge army like that he just damages you little by little while he is teleporting so u barely see him but he's there and he's touching u that'd be creepy as hell lmao and add temporary invisibility to his arsenal as well to spice things up
When I had Minecraft on my old PS3 I would usually see 2x2 holes in mountains and such as random redstone torches on trees, but I never knew about Herobrine until 2017.
(Always assumed it was part of the game.)
It would be pretty cool if they added him in, but maybe a super rare 1/mil chance of appearing.
Maybe he could appear to be peeping from behind a tree. When you look at him, he hides behind the tree and de-spawns. Never appearing again.
They could even make it so that he could only appear at least 40 blocks away while it's raining.
He wouldn't attack, or interract with the player in any other way, which would keep the mysterious vibe going.
Maybe also make it so that it could only happen on an account that's less than 5 years old, to reduce the chance that the player has knowledge of what they saw. This way, when they google it, they'd be met with the search results from a decade ago.

As he says, he's fake. BUT. Veterans can't get him out, he just has to exist.

That's awesome

Ok dat easter egg
I remember in 2014, me and a few friends were playing on a realm. After making our town near the water, we decided to go out and venture off into the wild. I was leading the group because I had the best PC and therefore could have the highest render distance to see the furthest. I had literally no idea where I was going, I was just walking straight and occasionally drifting off to the left or right. I then stumbled upon a glowstone tower over 12 blocks high. No one told me to go this specific way and there's no way that anyone else could've build that so far away from spawn just so I'd eventually find it, it was too much of a coincidence.
We all used a command to go back to our main town spawn and then left immediately.
I was playing an older version once and went back into a mine I left to resupply and had totally forgotten about until I accidentally found it again. When I went back I got spooked by a few cobblestone structures I had forgotten I made.
"Maybe Mojang will sneak him in"
Honestly, if things were going to go that way, Herobrine would appear in a snapshot, and only once. He would use Steve's skin but there'd be a new image to make the eyes white, he'd appear in your world and then disappear forever, only one world, only one time, the source code is slightly private, so Herobrine's code can be snuck in the private areas.
Thinking of it, they could've probably already done it and we would never know.
and that would explain why we never seen him he appears off screan
Yea I think but I always play survival but herobrine appears and teleport ??
He killed Mario...
Probably
This would be good for Halloween and could be a permanent update
Whenever someone mentions Herobrine, it reminds me of a tale from my childhood. Take a walk with me back to 2013, when I was just a wee lad, and I was playing Minecraft with my best friend and siblings on Pocket Edition.
We were having a good time in Creative mode, messing about and having a good time, when my best friend, who was a few years my elder, decided to play a prank on us. He put on a Herobrine skin, names himself Herobrine, and proceeds to do some strange things.
Firstly, when we decided to try and cover the whole world with cakes (don't ask why lol), he temporarily disabled multiplayer and removed all the cakes, and added an odd sign that said "Stop. - Herobrine".
From my perspective, the server had just crashed and all our cakes disappeared without a trace, and now there was a strange sign. From there, I was pretty creeped out, but I decided to be stubborn with my cake making ways, and try and cover the world in cakes yet again.
He then proceeded to do the same thing again, and then I saw him ominously standing at the top of a hill after the fact. He then used an invisibility potion, so he appeared to disappear without a trace. I then had enough, I got freaked out and left the game, and that was that.
I only figured out that it was him a few months ago, we were both going for a walk (for fun I guess), and I mentioned how I never quite could explain that weird experience with Herobrine. He then started laughing his ass off, and revealed to me that it had been him the whole time, to which I replied "Ahhhh, that makes more sense. Screw you though for scaring little me!". Damn I miss that dude, maybe I should hang out with him some time.
And so ends my experience with Herobrine, I hope you find this amusing.
Edit: I remember another detail now, we had built the Herobrine shrine before we started placing cakes, and we assumed that's why Herobrine had invaded our world.
When you said that you miss the dude, I thought he died of covid-19.
@@qweadd6987 Lmao nah, he died of being considered not scary anymore.
Are you sure it was 2013? We weren't able to change skins in pocket edition until 2015, so there wouldn't have been any way for your friend to change his skin to Herobrine.
@@risotto4life577 Well, I don't remember the exact year, but it might have been on Xbox Edition if it was in 2013. I just kinda guessed 2013 because that's when Herobrine was really a thing.
Your videos are perfect for a cold, advent night, dimmed lights, and a cup of coffee. Very relaxing. 👍
I reckon it's probably a marketing scheme, notch probably put in this little sprite thingy set to pop up just on the edge of the players vision, adding the story about his brother when asked because it created intrigue for a game that would likely otherwise have had a fairly small audience, and considering that we're still talking about it years later just shows how affective it was (the regular *removed herobrine* updates could also be a set up to why he's in the game if they ever need to use that to bring back more consumers)
Imagine seeing a Minecraft: Herobrine Update
They need to add him in the game as a gamemode or a boss that would add so much more to the game
I would be crazier if it was just a normal update, but in the release notes, it said, "Revived Herobrine", or something like that
Man herobrine is busy his in monster school🎓🔔📚📙📘📗📒📑📓📕📔
@@williamarnold7104 they didnt add "herobrine removed" in the change logs in the last update
It’d be cool if he added a horror aspect to the game where he continually stalks the player with the chat saying stuff like you feel a presence around you.
Does anybody else remember doing a ritual trying to spawn Herobrine in a world? Cause when did it took 7 year old me like a week to muster up the courage to try and spawn him in and of course it didn't work...

I'm still paranoid of touching the ground in Creative because of Herobrine. I know it's irrational, but it's how it is. The fear of touching minecraft ground. I play survival when I'm not alone (not necessarily multiplayer)
Even though he isn't real, I'll always be afraid when I play alone. Not even joking.

Swear I saw him once; me and my friend were playing in creative mode, flat world, bedrock edition - she found the setting to make a thunderstorm and I was flying around trying to get hit by lightning. I saw him flash in front of me for less than second - a default Steve skin high up in the sky?? It was so bizarre that I dropped to the ground immediately and spent ages looking 😅 this happened in 2020 so idk exactly what version it was but I remember it so vividly

that happened to me and my sis half a year ago, it kept screaming but never attcking us just going past us repeatedly
Hey everyone, I know it's been almost a year since this video is out and I doubt Retro will see this comment but I had a possible herobrine sighting in my PS3 creative world when I was younger.
I used to have a flat creative world and on it I built an arena made of obsidian and bedrock and I had several chests with different sets of gear, armour stands with different armour sets, and mob spawn eggs inside chests. I would have fun changing gamemode to survival, spawning in hostile mobs and fighting them in the arena.
One day I was fighting skeletons in my arena and one of my armour stands by the arena came to life. It had a skeleton head and was fully armoured but unfortunately I cannot remember what type of armour it was clad in since this was years ago. The base of the armour stand hovered just above the ground and spun around very quickly and the whole thing moved towards me. I panicked and hit it with my sword but it didn't seem to damage it and the armour stand damaged me when it reached me. I was low on health from the skeletons I was fighting and the armour stand kept damaging me and killed me. The kill message read "NuclearQajar was slain by Armour Stand".
I respawned (keep inventory was enabled) and the armour stand came towards me again after noclipping through the arena wall. It was moving at about the same speed as a blaze. I hit it with my sword but this time it died from one swing and the armour stand dropped. I do not remember if the armour from the stand dropped or not. Younger me believed this was herobrine and I left the world never to play it again.
I told one of my friends about this encounter and she replied to me that if I see 5 herobrine encounters then my copy of minecraft gets deleted. This fear of herobrine stopped younger me from playing minecraft for half a year. I look back at that moment and part of me still believes it was herobrine. I have not told anyone other than my friend about this encounter because I know nobody would ever believe me. To this day that event has creeped me out that when I play minecraft singleplayer I always play music in the background because those cave noises are so damn scary and remind me of my encounter with the armour stand.
I still have my PS3 so at some point I will check out my old world and reply to this comment how it looked. I'll be able to send screenshots to those who have me on discord.
Copeland, I used to play with him on an old Minecraft server called Betalands Old Haven, I actually met him yesterday on a betacraft server called 1.7.3 MCPlayground, knew that name was familiar
