This scene captures the excitement and bravery of Sharpe and the Royal Brigade perfectly! The action and historical detail are top-notch. Fantastic job!
The 7 barreled gun was a real thing, but impractical. Instead of being designed to fire 7 times without reloading it fired all seven barrels at once. While being a more deadly than single shots it took forever to reload.
it was a Navy gun, not meant for the Army. Cornwell himself said Patrick could use it only because he was a very big man, otherwise it would be too heavy.
I had a fall in a dimly lit parking lot which let to a concussion... which led to a very bizarre dream where I was fighting alongside Sharpe's men, and Ellie was there and I commented on her green jacket and said she is a Chosen Woman
I watched every episode when it came out through the 90s. I don't recall sets being reused then or now. But I guess that's because I am always so into the episodes that I don't notice.
@robinmabbott7334 Harper’s weapon is a Nock volley gun, or Nock gun. As the name suggests it fires all barrels simultaneously (you’ll notice it only has one set of lock work) and it is un-rifled. Perhaps surprisingly it is a real world weapon, although actually intended for naval service (as seen in the Movie Master and Commander). Wikipedia has a good article about the piece
He'd given up army secrets under torture and would have faced charges and worse on his return to England.... Sharpe lets him die as a hero while boosting the morale of the men.
Google "forlorn hope" it was a way a disgraced soldier could regain honor and ,if they survive, be granted a pardon for their misconduct. Edit- Came back to add more context. It wasn't always for misconduct. Often young officers would volunteer as it was almost a guaranteed instant promotion and one of the few ways you could find upward mobility in an era of rigid social stratification. It is also exaggerated here for dramatic effect. These soldiers would be leading the charge or carrying out the most dangerous assignment, but the rest of the force would still be supporting or behind them and not just watching one guy take on a full garrison alone.
In practically every episode the fallen are dead but in reality most would be wounded or dying but still alive. What next ? Would the wounded be finnished off? They never show that part of the skirmish because it wouldn't look good killing the unarmed wounded !
I watched a training film in basic 69 about the laws of land warfare where a soldier form that war walked through the misty terrain executing wounded and dying. It was very enlightening about the times.
I'm curious as to why they seldom use bayonets. There have been a number of scenes in which I thought they'd be more useful than using rifles as clubs.
What exactly was stopping Loupe from attacking once the firing squad shot their rifles? Nobody was ready to shoot anything else and on horseback they'd have been on top of the rifles before they could even contemplate reloading or pulling their swords.

its was for ships. deck mounted. for clearing said decks in the event of a boarding

The volley gun for sweeping the deck of enemy warships. A very early shotgun or scatter gun concept

Using the same set through the series? Now that’s regurgitating!

French are competing with storm troopers for the title of best soldiers.
Cut! Alright French cavalry, go back to wardrobe to get ready for the British cavalry scene.
They march to get away from the bagpipe.
nice of the french to open the gate and and ride around them in the courtyard.
I find it most remarkable that horses are never hit. A bit unbelievable.
Quite. Especially since horses were often the best target. But it is TV, or the modern equivalent, and we are of the Bambi generations.
Does Harpers rifle shoot all 7 shots at once or jus 1 at a time ?

He fires all 7 shots on the first volley but typically reloads it with a single shot after that
the second half of the vid isn't from Sharpe's Battle and features Munro's Scottish troops in Sharpe's Sword.
Why did the fellow on horseback charge in alone to his death like that

And then what? His whole force consists of three guys. Sure he could cut down a few men, but then it's all over for him after that.
