This is why I love Game Informer, the review felt positive while listing the game’s shortcomings, a sharp contrast when compared to IGN. The IGN review felt like a laundry list of problems and I was totally shocked when, after hearing the reviewer complain about every aspect of the game, he gave it a score of 8.

Indeed. Just what I’ve come to expect from ign after 20 years of reading their material. And after it all another 8, their favourite score to give 😂 especially from this reviewer. Shockingly bad reviews, I only tune in to ign to listen to beyond every now and again. Or next gen game watch, although Ryan Mcaffrey is probably the worst game journo I’ve ever encountered. The way he gets giddy whenever Microsoft makes a press release still makes me laugh (a generalisation for sure but you get what I mean)

Take in consideration that the game had to be optimized for the original ps4 and doesn't look that far off from the ps5 version. Thus, they probably backed down on graphics for the sake of making it more available for old consoles. Imagine if Kena 2 or whatever Ip they go for next will be dedicated only to PS5 and PC.
These style of games have been around long before that.
They pulled it off ! So excited ! Can’t wait to wake up and download this bad boy. I knew they were going to release a beautiful, near perfect game. However, seeing everyone freak out about how quiet things got before the roll out - admittedly did have me wondering “what if” the game isn’t as good as I expected. Glad to see that was unfounded and the game is universally beloved already. I’m calling it now, the sequel will be AAA and longer. 😍
Game looks like wonder and joy. Haven’t had that since HZD.

Short answer = No, developers usually receive a flat rate for producing a game plus a bonus for sales numbers in the games first month of release, it's quite likely 100% of your money for the physical edition will go to Sony (this may not be the case for this game, but for most games this is the case)
Distributors gets an amount of fees for physical copies. If you want to fully support the developers then Digital is the way 💯

Bought the Deluxe Edition early this morning for PC. Looking forward to playing it and happy to hear that it isn't just pretty looking but has some depth of gameplay and story to it. Thanks for the insight as always Game Informer.

Once again you've got to love how a professional review does not go into detail on performance let alone the difference between versions ( PS5, PS4 and PC ). Thank you for the information regarding the PS4. Consumers shouldn't have to go digging through the comments to get it though. Also no mention that this is digital only for the time being. Hopefully a widely available physical version can be experienced by all

This looks like an adventure game that woulda been on the GameCube when Nintendo was on fire coming up with new IPs.

But all seriousness back in those days we had small indi companies making games like that for ps2 GameCube Xbox all the time sadly smaller companies either phased out due to not enough enough financial support or bought out by the bigger ones seeing games like this is rare unless it’s by triple AAA company gaming was soo much better then before all this online DRM crap I just hope this game does well so we can get a bigger AAA sequel

A great game, made by only 15 people, about 10-15 hours long and it's just $40? Where are those Biomutant fans that said we should forgive that game's flaws because they were a small team? This is how it's done.
I hear everyone saying it’s more 6-10 hours depending on if you rush or go slow. Looks great tho and I may buy it. Just not sure if I should wait till physical in November

It's actually significantly shorter. Notice the reviewer said you can finish it on a weekend, meaning it's around 8 hours long so $40 is definitely too high for this game.

TOTALLY WORTH YOUR TIME, i just finished the main story and still playing for the platinum and it it awesome and addicted. a had a lot of time playing this gem and i think I'm gonna replay it.

How’s the gameplay? Is it 1 of those where you get lost a lot and spend most of the time running around blind? How’s the combat? I ask because enemy don’t seem to fight back, in all footage I seen
@@grahamkelly8662 Gameplay is good..not got lost yet. I've turned the enemy difficulty up as I'm coming off playing Souls games.. Combat is satisfying though but I would recommend playing on the High difficulty if you want a bit of bang for your buck so to speak.

Game seems nice. However, this is the most generic review I've seen. It's like it was forged by the algorithm with as little personality as possible.
This might as well have been a "top ten crochet tips for this winter!" video. Put a person on screen sometimes, let them get excited, give them more than five minutes... The reviewer sounds overly produced and puts so much effort on trying to sound warm and playful that it comes off sounding a bit superficial and patronizing. It just seems like Walmart brand video game reviews.

I like basic accessible games. I think games are getting way to complex and forget what a game should be./ or what makes a good game
I will likely pick up the game but, I really am fed up with hand holding in games and paint marketed climbing. I wish they would let players work these things out themselves.

Alex, thanks for another masterfully produced review. These really shine. Many of us knew going into Kena 18 months back, it was a mashup; and therefore, lives or dies on execution. The big ??? was whether a new studio could craft gameplay mechanics which are fun and evolve continually thru the game. Looks like they did this at least at an 8-level and possibly a 9-level. A 9!!!! REALLY??? LOL COME ON GAMEINFORMER.. Dont you guys take replayability, price and length of game into account. Im sure the game is fun but how can it be a 9, esp if you say the game stumbles some? It is an 8 hour game with ZERO replayability. Personally, I dont think 8 hours is worth 40 dollars. Maybe if it had replayability. Idk, I guess it is just not for me. Glad to see Emberlab and Kena getting good reviews though. Happy for the developer.

I just played it for an hour and the world and gameplay are amazing. It's absolutely worth $40. Games are now $70...
I'd rather have a beautiful 15 hour experience than grind repetitive tasks for 100 hours to get my money's worth...
They've definitely put work into it and it's a great experience.
Also, you can replay it on hard. And finishing it unlocks an extra master mode to replay it. Bosses can also be tough, almost with a souls-like feel.

The devs stated that the game is about 8hours long and if this game is 1 of those where you often get lost, then a lot of your play time will be finding out where to go and I can’t help but think this game is made so you will constantly run around not knowing where to go. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great and I may very well buy it, this morning but I’m just a bit worried that the game will be way too short or mainly filler. Just going on the little gameplay shown.
