Pacific Coast highway story: You’re going to see the sun rise over the water? No, you’re not; the sun rises in the east. I grew up on the Washington State Coast and we had some kids who were friends of ours who made the same mistake. Day after high school graduation, they were going to watch the sun rise over the water. Their dad laughed and laughed and then informed them that the sun rises in the east.
I’m from Paradise CA and went through that awful evacuation. Both my mom and my and my dad lost their houses in the fire along with all of our belongings and pictures/memories. They each rebuilt.
The young couple in the RV park ..so glad you ran and saved yourself and than your boyfriend....glad he has healed..... Thank God! I hope and pray that God will stop those evil monsters as soon as possible 🙏🙏🙏
Are you kidding me? Tell me, honestly, what if they grabbed the girl and started assaulting her and the boyfriend ran to save himself? Would you say "glad he did that"?
I love Cali, but I grew up and lived there for over 30 years. It can be a shock to visitors 🤷🏼♀️ The lady with the wild fires was damn lucky. Why didn’t she leave and meet her husband at work?
I made it through that specific fire! We were told there was no danger, and that the fire was far up in the mountains. Our local authorities were telling us this. Winds gusted upwards of 60 miles an hr and the fire hit paradise ca in just minutes! Demolishing 80 FOOTBALL FIELDS A MIN! I lost everything but the clothes I was wearing that day. It was the worst in California history. Look it up, Camp Fire.. Paradise, Ca 11/08/18 I was super surprised to hear someone who had been through that tell their story on here! Anyways, have a great night! 😊😊
@@jillianpw9789 I’m glad you made it through but I’m sorry you lost everything. How terrible that must’ve been. The last fire I went through was 2003 or 2004 when the fire went from San Diego all the way up past Los Angeles. We lived in Fountain Valley and ash from those fires was falling all the way to the coast. I grew up in San Gabriel Valley, and when the Santa Anas came, we were all waiting for a fire in the foothills

sometimes the last story brings me to tears literally while listening at work and this last story absolutely did it for me, so happy the mom and son made it out of that fire 😓
As a Californian this selection of stories is an accurate representation of the the dangers within my state. Everyone here knows some one who has been through an event similar to these, if they haven’t lived it themselves.
To the lady who rescued the Dogs I love you so much for what you did I can't stand any animal being abused but be careful, please. your life is very precious.
My grandparents lived outside Paradise at the time of the fire, but my cousin was able to get them out before things got really bad. They also lost everything, and now my grandmother lives with my aunt. My grandfather passed soon after moving
The last story about the California wild fire hits home! I was part of that.. lived in paradise ca for 25 yrs, and lost everything except the clothes on my back.. truly the saddest and scariest day of my life! I listen to this podcast religiously.. so to hear a story I literally lived through on here was pretty cool! Camp Fire.. 11/08/18 😢😢
Good on the lady who saved all the dogs. I have a pit bull too. His name is Apollo. He is from a breeder though who does tremendous work. Ethical only and by referral only. My cousin is friends with the lovely couple and got him for me as a birthday present after I lost my Cookie after 11 years. He is the best dog in the world. He is by my side at all times. I can’t imagine my life without my baby boy. I can’t believe people could take such a loyal, charming creature and force them to fight. It’s disgusting.
The dolphin theory in story 7 automatically sounded like wishful thinking to me. Maybe that's me being a Cape Cod local, but I my mind immediately went to the idea of it being a shark. Keep these videos coming, Joel; they're the best part of my Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights!
As soon as they said beach with shark attacks it reminded me of the red triangle we know up north a ways from there If they tell you there's sharks or there's attacks there Don't get in the water Even at the shoreline they linger there too
The Camp Fire will always be with me. I spent my college years in college in Chico, twenty minutes away from Paradise. There is no going back to that place. Ironically, it was the first place I ever saw snow. In a weird turn of events, I volunteer in an animal shelter with a woman who lost everything there. Everything except her and her husband's records. They owned a really popular store in downtown Chico. It's where I bought my first record ever. Her husband sold it to me ten years ago and now I'm meeting her, almost to the day. The happy ending is that she is now opening a new record store in Florence, Oregon. It makes me so happy they were able to make something out of the saddest and scariest situation possible.
That’s what I was saying if he got the car on slap in reverse or drive and hit the gas who cares if you hit them or a car at least you’ll get someone’s attention cars can get fixed… I don’t get why people are clearly in danger yet don’t want to hit someone with their car damn the consequences until after
The Honda Civic story is one of those where everyone should do a search on what to do, in case it happens to you. Professional security/body guard types always say when someone is attempting to kidnap you that it is imperative NOT to get into villains auto. 90% game over if you do. Guy opening door and hoping for the best (especially with gf in car-rape/murder/life of torture/more rape) is nuts! All the above said would be going through my head and the more I like the odds of doing some demolition derby with a gun toting 3 on 2 situation. You never know what you are going to do until you are in a particular situation, but reading this I hope everyone will do a search to see what the best course of action would be...somehow I am thinking that getting out of your one ton metal locked enclosure with power and wheels is not the best option. It's good to hear that they survived, but the PTSD and chronic pain for life would almost drive a person crazy. Being a guy and getting worked over to an inch of death has got to wrench his psyche and not being able to get revenge (primitive I know..but lower brain still there for a reason) would make for some nasty/very frustrating flashbacks. Don't EVER trust that people who have already proven to bad are somehow going to "all of the sudden" be nice and let you off easy. Most often these cases end in death and make for an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. R.I.P. - Robert Stackhouse (insert theme song).
The girl with the shelter is seriously lucky to be alive. I've done criminal court cases with involving gangs - murders, rape etc. Some dockets are beyond horrific.
I hope you are doing well Joel. You put out so much great content for your fans but make sure you take time for you and don't get burnt out. I worry about you but love and appreciate all the videos you put out. This is by far my favorite channel ever.
A perfect gift for my 40th birthday...got a belly full of brisket and wife's homemade brownie cake now it's time to settle in and close out this fantastic b-day with some LR with Joel and the LR fam!!!!
@@amg3790 Yes, I do. It’s a noun, generally associated with online communities of men who belittle, demean, troll, and sometimes attack women for misguided beliefs that they are the sole reason for their problems. Sometimes even taking their misdirected aggression out on sexually active men out of jealousy or other selfish reasons. Essentially they’re neck beards who lack social etiquette and blame women for everything wrong with their life and sometimes even equate that with what’s wrong with the world. They also sometimes break into women’s houses in an attempt to to whatever depraved incel crap they have planned. When people try and pull these “gotcha moments” on a comment about someone getting what they had coming it really comes off like you’re trying to defend the guy hit with the bat, is that what your intentions were here?
@@BORNdischarged You're trying to counter a "gotcha moment" with an actual gotcha moment. No one is defending incels nor are they defending the guys in the story. But also maybe don't continue to misuse an already chronically misused term and apply it where it makes sense next time?? Thanks!
Love this incredible stories that for sure we learn at listen those ones and realize when we travel we have to be more than carefyll you can trust to anyone at once and not to go places the we don't know 🤔👍
I'm from Santa Rosa and lived through the Tubbs fire.. to see my entire hometown demolished by fire around us is and was one of the most terrifying things I've been through. We had to drive through fire, and I don't even know how we made it. I had multiple friends that lost homes..and somehow ours was left standing when a lot on our street did not. Almost 5 years to this day actually. Edited to add...omg it was EXACTLY five years ago to this day 😭
Thank you to the brave and kind lady who looked after the poor pit bull and followed up on her gut feelings about that piece of 💩 who used the dogs for fighting 😡😢 we need more people like you in this cruel world and I'm happy to hear he is now where he belongs with you 💜
This is for the two women who went camping and were accosted. I'm so sorry you had this experience. But don't give up on camping together. I can tell you that just up until s couple years ago I was an avid outdoors woman. I used to run 7 to 10 miles every morning on along the Potomac river, Geo. Washington parkway at 5 a m. There would be other people occasionally, but it was often dark out and I ran through three or four large areas of woods. I eventually moved to New Hampshire and took up mountain climbing and hiking. I most often was alone because as a nurse I worked 3pm to 3am. so it was hard to find hiking partners. I always had a knife mostly as a useful tool but also for safety. I spent years climbing and hiking the White Mountains. I enjoyed every moment I was out there. I was never accosted, hit on or threatened. It wasn't because I was ugly either as some might think. It's because most people that enjoy hiking and climbing are there because they enjoy the outdoors and not to pick up or get picked up. So don't lose the desire to go camping, it's so much fun and being outdoors sleeping under the night sky is amazing. God Bless.
The story about sleeping overnight on pch Growing up we were told never to do that. Not because the locals were dangerous but because it's such a touristy area you don't know what kind of people are really out thereally out there waiting to stop tourists or to take advantage of them there is one too many stories about how people from other cities nor cities not even from the area itself comes specifically to break into cars and it's just terrible. I hope the people in the story are doing so much better and that one day they do catch those men.
For those that lost their homes and family in the fires up at Paradise, I’m so sorry and will continue to pray for y’all. I pray the insurance companies find a heart and do their jobs to at least help y’all get some of what y’all built. May you find the strength to keep moving forward.
I really enjoy these state/location stories. I live in CA and have seen the Camp Fire (around Paradise) on the news as it happened. Also heard about shark sightings in waters near CA. While some of the stories could have happened almost anywhere, some were very specific to our state.
In the first story… lady says that San Francisco is amazing and she loves living there… Also says that she stepped on a used needle and gets a disease, gets kidnapped in her own apartment, laughed at during support group sessions. But other than that it’s great!
If you ever think somebody's following you don't do not pull up to your destination Excelsior home keep driving but to a fire station the police the hospital somewhere safe always know your surroundings and go with your first gut instinct
That 1st story is crazy. That woman will be haunted for the rest of her life with a "what if" question..... What if I wore Converse instead of flip flops that day. My heart goes out to her. We need to do better as Americans. Cleaner streets, better mental health care, medical insurance for all
Born and raised in California and I'm sad to say that I've lost my love for it. Just turning on the news is depressing and we're supposed to think everything's peachy.
The Cedar Fire took OUR place down in Cuyamaca along with most of the others in the area, odd thing about it was, 2wks earlier the young does & bucks were all grouped together on one side of the horse campground, with a huge, mature buck & his does alone out in the main pasture.....
In the U.K. I got pierced with a used needle. At hospital I was immediately given Hep C medication. Why was the person in the story not given Hep C medication immediately?
Yeah, that story royally pisses me off. Doctors in general seem so flippant about situations like this. PeP and PrEP exist for a reason. Is not getting stuck with a random needle an urgent situation that could be massively helped with medication? I think so! I've had a couple scary situations in the past, and when I expressed concerns to doctors, they basically said "you'll be fine. You don't need medicine." What if I did? What if I had contracted some life altering disease that could have been prevented, but you decided to screw me and my life over because, well, it's not you or your life, so you don't care. Doctors. 🙄
First story is messed up on every level, but a big one is that how he wasn't able to get medication. Life-saving medication like that needs to be free. My dad got infected with Hep-C because of his last ex-wife, as much as I hate him for abandoning us as a father it still hurt to see him suffering from it when he used to be so energetic.
It's sad that people don't have access to drs and medicine. How many lives are lost becasue of this ? How many people resort to crime to get what they need ? It's horrible
The campfire one I just can't listen to. My cousin lived up in Paradise and luckily he made it out, but the day the fire started my grandma and I were supposed to go see him. I met people up there and fell in love with that town. Hearing about the fire always sends shivers down my spine. I just hope that the people I met there made it out.

That’s true; it does.
Yes, that kind of ruined the story; if you lie about that, then…I question the whole story.
Yep haha he should’ve let them go and waste their time hahaha
Stupidity plain and simple.
Paradise, Ca 11/08/18
I was super surprised to hear someone who had been through that tell their story on here!
@@SoCalRegisteredNurse thank you for the kind words! Yes, as horrible as it was, I’m so grateful my family and I made it out! Disasters are terrible no matter what kind! Glad everything got resolved. Now It’s time to get cozy and listen to these stories!! Thank you Joel. 🖤
sometimes the last story brings me to tears literally while listening at work and this last story absolutely did it for me, so happy the mom and son made it out of that fire 😓

As a Californian this selection of stories is an accurate representation of the the dangers within my state. Everyone here knows some one who has been through an event similar to these, if they haven’t lived it themselves.
Okay Rin
As soon as I heard that chick was wearing flip flops in San Francisco I was like, yeah you're getting a needle to the foot lol
even though California's crime rate is midlevel.
Hence you should vote red ❤
Sounds like a shithole unfortunately
Camp Fire.. 11/08/18 😢😢
Literally put these stories on every night! Love you man
Charles! 💀
Especially when they mentioned the shark attacks
As soon as they said beach with shark attacks it reminded me of the red triangle we know up north a ways from there
If they tell you there's sharks or there's attacks there
Don't get in the water
Even at the shoreline they linger there too
The Camp Fire will always be with me.
The guy who opened the door for the gunman made a massive mistake by not pulling off as quickly and directly as possible
That’s exactly what I was thinking
Yeah wtf?? You’re in a CAR
Protagonist from story #2.... You're a real hero... Thank you for what you did to help those doggies :")
Here here. Having two beautiful canine girls of my own, that individual is very special.
"He may not know it, but he is the reason all of those dogs got their freedom"
Wholesome.
I was reading your comment when she said it.❤❤❤❤❤❤
I live 20 mins from where the Cali fires 🔥took place. My entire house was full of smoke. And the sky was Red. So happy the writer made it out Alive.
Love this set of stories Joel! Probably my favorite so far! Keep up the awesome work. :):):)
The dog story broke my heart 🥺🥺
The girl with the shelter is seriously lucky to be alive. I've done criminal court cases with involving gangs - murders, rape etc. Some dockets are beyond horrific.
I hope you are doing well Joel. You put out so much great content for your fans but make sure you take time for you and don't get burnt out. I worry about you but love and appreciate all the videos you put out. This is by far my favorite channel ever.

That lady bashing the dude with a knife in the head with a baseball bat, that is fantastic. You go girl, stay safe from those incels.
Thanks!

That woman who found that dog ring is A HERO, AN ICON, MY IDOL 💝💝💝
God Bless.

I can't stand people who fight/ hurt dogs. Monsters. Good for her for doing all she could to get answers and getting him caught.
As an Australian the bushfire story was a special kind of scary.
The story about sleeping overnight on pch
Growing up we were told never to do that.
As a designer, I often appreciate the backgrounds for these videos.

How crazy, the story about the 2 girls going camping in Yosemite are from my current city I live in! So weird to hear it mentioned!!
"Thanks so much friends, and remember......to wash your ass." Lol Was not expecting that in the slightest 😂
These stories are nuts! Omg.
Thanks for the video ❤
I was here for the way she was roasting Derek almost that whole story.
In the first story… lady says that San Francisco is amazing and she loves living there…
Also says that she stepped on a used needle and gets a disease, gets kidnapped in her own apartment, laughed at during support group sessions. But other than that it’s great!
Going for a walk and stepping on a needle and then getting hepatitis c is the most California story I've ever heard

That 1st story is crazy. That woman will be haunted for the rest of her life with a "what if" question..... What if I wore Converse instead of flip flops that day. My heart goes out to her. We need to do better as Americans. Cleaner streets, better mental health care, medical insurance for all

That last story was so intense made me cry lol
A scary California story is just living here
Born and raised in California and I'm sad to say that I've lost my love for it.
This was awesome. The last one so sad
In the U.K. I got pierced with a used needle. At hospital I was immediately given Hep C medication. Why was the person in the story not given Hep C medication immediately?
Yeah I found this super weird. Doubly so since we even have an hiv preventative you can go on. Screw that urgent care jfc
Doctors. 🙄
@@misomieagreed
First story is messed up on every level, but a big one is that how he wasn't able to get medication. Life-saving medication like that needs to be free. My dad got infected with Hep-C because of his last ex-wife, as much as I hate him for abandoning us as a father it still hurt to see him suffering from it when he used to be so energetic.
It's sad that people don't have access to drs and medicine. How many lives are lost becasue of this ? How many people resort to crime to get what they need ? It's horrible
Currently at an airport waiting for my flight to Alaska. Gotta get my LetsRead in! Keep up the good work
