Billy is one of those rare people...who could have been damned near anything he wanted. He'd have been a brilliant actor. Fortunately for the world, he listened to his music teacher... and decided to pursue the writing and performance of his own music. Thank you, Piano Man... for the entertainment, and the social commentary. I've grown up on your music... and sometimes it helped make my view of the world better. It's enough.
I wish he would do master classes in London. As a young woman I met him on Long Island when I was going through the same mental health issues he had at the same age. He was not only empathetic but therapeutic-worth a million so called “professional” therapists. He is wonderful.
I love this guy so much, he's so modest yet so incredibly talented. I read his book and that story about the high school teacher wasn't in there, that is really cool! To have a teacher tell him that he should go for it must have been a huge boost of cofidence. I have to get tickets to see another one of his concerts this year!
Such a great, humble guy; Street smart, people smart, knows how to connect with a large audience. Very likable. Not to mention fantastic songwriter, singer and lyricist.
What an amazing man. I think more teachers need to see this to realize how they impact a young person's life. More importantly, school administrators NEED to view this! Kudos to you, Billy Joel!
I have had the pleasure if seeing Billy in concert twice,....an American Treasure,....and a guy who i think would sit down and talk with anyone, no matter social class, etc. a true New Yorker not to mention one hell of a musician. thanx Billy.
Billy is greatly admired by so many people for the music he has brought into their lives. What a talented guy he is, and so dynamic! I love his charisma, such a nice person. ❤
I was born and raised in NYC. I no longer live there, but I have a ritual whenever I visit. No matter my mode of travel, the moment I see that majestic, towering unmistakable skyline, I play (you guessed it) New York State Of Mind, allow the emotion that song evokes take me over for a moment, then I know I'm home. On the other hand, when I left home at 18, I played (you guessed right again), "Moving Out. Anthony's Song". No motorcycle. I named my youngest son Anthony in honor of what that song meant to me (can we keep that our little secret?)
Billy should take the headlines and world events from 1990 and beyond and write “We didn’t start the fire” part 2! I know it’ll never happen! But we’re all free to imagine!
Such a talent but I don’t think his singing voice is talked about enough, probably because his music and lyrics are so inspirational, people forget just how good a singing voice he has- also to change depending on the type of song. No interviewer mentions his great voice technique.
1:28 Let's all have a thought for that teacher, he's somewhat responsible for all the hits Billy offered to the world. Every day, wonderful guys like him are shaping a better world in silence, and unlike serial killers they'll never make the headlines.
I have a question he’s mentioned is songs like, “come on take your money and run” and “Ballard to billy Joel” from Bobbie Gentry even Johnny Cash song “don’t take your guns to town” is this the same billy Joel?

Nice interview, but on question #4, what pitfalls is he helping people avoid? Lol. All his masterclasses are available on You Tube. He doesn't address any pitfalls. All the people are just asking about the stories behind his songs. He's trying to pretend like he's this super generous guy, but not really imparting any knowledge about the music business like he says he wants to do in the masterclasses.
I was at one of his classes back in around 1996, and the reason you are not getting the info you wish he would give is that the silly questions do not lead him to talk about parting knowledge in the music business!!! He gets asked lame an obvious questions that he's been asked for decades. Would love to have Billy, Fats, Jerry Lee, Little Richard, Jimmy Webb, McCartney, Bacharach...doing a 3 hour Round Table discussion on the music business....these guys won't be around forever, and the historical record can be preserved.
Strangely you constantly put Billy Joel down with your comments all over UA-cam. Curious, If you don’t like him, why do you perform his songs? (Pretty badly, I may say.)
Bill, please live forever
I can not tell you what I would do, to have 2 minutes to tell him how much his music means to me, in many ways
@@k_h_nobody same!
We all can,
"For GOD so L❤VED the world, that he gave his only begotten son, WHOSOEVER believeth in him should have everlasting life."
(John 3:16)
Well, his music will
He has beautiful eyes!
Easily the greatest of all time. I love his modesty.
You rock!
Still wonderful and beautiful

Thank you so much, Billy for your masterclasses! You helped me a lot!

Love this man, if there were more like him the world would be a better place for sure.
Such a humble, beautiful soul. I love listening to him speak as much as hearing him sing/play. Such virtuosity.... 🙏🏼
How humble can you be...? ladies and Gentlemen, presenting... 'Billy Joel'...
You ARE an alchemist, a genius.

The greatest
His voice sounded the same to the way he talked back in 1977
His singing voice does sound different than it did in the 70's.
Love your music! Thank you ❤️
God I love this guy for real.
I love Billy!
Billy Joel Cuba 1979. I was there.
Beautiful guy. No pretensions. He and his songs are balm for the soul. Love you BJ!! xxx

Billy Joel- 68, should be 38.

Billy the legend Joel
You are history
Thanks forever ❤️
He’s a master anyway 🙌
I would like to see a remake of “Fame” and have Mr. Joel reprise Albert Hague’s role of Shorofsky.
Love these answers! But... is he crying??
Why you cryin' Billy?
Speaking from the heart
Voice of Dodger from Oliver and Company
Brandon Cooper Yes but he’s so much more. One of the best musicians of all time 😎
1:28 Let's all have a thought for that teacher, he's somewhat responsible for all the hits Billy offered to the world. Every day, wonderful guys like him are shaping a better world in silence, and unlike serial killers they'll never make the headlines.
The modest giant.
Nice. 🎶🎵🎼
Great guy I'd like to drink a beer with... or two... or three....

Christina B. , no it’s not.
Ok i guess I learned something
Covering up his New York accent now I see. I've only seen young interviews of him. He sounded about like Andrew Dice Clay when he spoke.

Cutie Pie Cockette....
Going from the black background to the white with the question is annoying and glaring.
Wimpy questions and background music
Why are his eyes so wet?
His age, dear
Billy became emotional during the interview, that is why his eyes are wet .💓
Wish he would lose a few pounds. Can't be healthy.
"I love you just the way you are"...Remember?

I thought Salieri was dead.
Almost as boring as his music.
