- In this video review for the Surge 2 I look at the features in the game that could help elevate future souls like games! Dark Souls and Elden Ring could learn a thing or two from some of the ideas at work in this game. But is it a better game than the Kings of the genre? Watch and find out!

If Nioh 2 counts as souls-like that would be my pick. Combat and character customization in it is way better than any From Software game I've ever played. It's actually hard for me to play stuff like Elden Ring now after getting into that game. Roll ~15 times - get a hit or two on the enemy - start rolling again. This type of combat bores me to tears. I hate the direction Souls games took starting with DSIII.
This game is highly underrated. The level layout is fantastic, and yeah it is so clever how you can fight your way through an entire level and then get plopped back out at the OG start lol. I definitely agree the game eventually vomits a bunch of armor parts during the last act, but you are already so far into the game its not really worth swapping from the fantastic R.H.I.N.O. armor set.
If I were to really try and NG+ this, I'd turn off the directional blocker augment. With that enabled, its a pretty big handicap. Enemies would become much tougher since a ton of them actually have fake-out moves that you'd need to predict. Story is bland-ish, I thought it had some good story beats toward the end though. But yeah, great game!
Im not into the future setting but i LOVED this game. The cutting limbs mechanic is so satisfying. Just imagine a elden ring with this cut off limbs mechanic it would blow my mind

Started getting into this game after holding it off for years in my backlog. The combat is far better then elden rings 100%.

I didnt mind grinding for parts to up new gear later on, since u can salvage a tier for 2 of the tier under, getting T8 parts and breaking down for 4 T6 or 8 T5 etc, it's not that time consuming especially w the implant that gives double parts when u cut them
Yeah I liked that they did let you break down high level parts for low level ones. Even still I felt like normal play only gave me enough to keep 2 or so sets at max level
Nice vid bro. I understand not feeling invested in the story but in my opinion. The Surge 1 and 2 lore is really good!

So far my favorite non-Soulsborne Soulslikes are Lies of P and Code Vein. Code Vein is the perfect game for those who like to play with different builds, weapons, spells and buffs.
the surge 2 a very very good game....its a tough call, same with remnant 2, I made the same video if youre interested
I haven't tried the remnant games yet. But I've wanted to for sure. Might have to check it out!
It was my fav Ps5 game until Helldivers 2 came out! Won my GOTY for 2023 also @@capn_sarge
what i like here is the mix and match of weapons and equipments..hoping they gloryfied the parry system like Sekiro
I miss the older souls combat pace and speed now it feels like im playing Naruto Shippuden rather than Elden Ring with everyone using their skills and magic and bosses moving hyper fast.
You might be interested in trying the Nioh series. I liked those more than souls, except for Sekiro.
I actually played through Nioh 1 on stream back in the day! Idk if I'd say it's better than souls but it was definitely an interesting take on the genre
Yeah Nioh games are bland as hell.
Diablo-style loot overload killed it for me. I also had some issues with Nioh's balancing, but honestly that might just be me not building/grinding correctly.
I did play the first one through. Put in decent hours for the second as well. Moment to moment gameplay is excellent. Really digged the combat.
It's worth trying out, even if I bounced off of it.

I play surge1 as my first dark souls game andvi Say ther was a lot bad words but finaly i like this fast and chalange gameplay.Now i play lords of the fallen 2014 and omg this is so slow.
i went the entire game without finding the directional parry implant and thought the parry system was fucking terrible
You can use the higher tier mats to craft lower armor. The game doesn't explain it to you at all.
I love the surge 2 because its a sci fi one, but its a bit short imo. the first surge is ok, but it should need a moire larger area and more bosses im,o. but I can say that SURGE 2 is better than Lies of P!
Yeah I thought it was short as well. The game world was small but dense, though the back half of the game could have been a little longer

Yeah definitely! It's crazy how in control of the genre from soft is and continues to be. Usually we see newer iterations on the groundbreaking formulas improve upon them but really noone has been able to surpass them yet
I love souls esp elden ring, but itz battle is needing updated bad. Surge 2 letting u link power and fast R1-R2 attacks by letting u mix and create ur own combos is perfection. Plus using less stamina if u time it, and having hidden special movesets w the right combo series is awesome, surge 2 combat is hands down superior also w directional parrying.
If elden had surge 2 battle system, itd be absolutely perfection....but surge just lacks the world design, the awe provoking art style of scenery, enemy types, and biggest bosses. Surge bosses are lacking badly and enemies arent varied much (but I know it's part of the story).
The boss fights and world design and style is lacking, but cutting pieces and the battery system along with chaining R1 and R2s together without resetting the attack animation is top notch. If souls and surge merged that truly would b the ultimate perfect game of this genera. Surge 2 did the battle right, I was hopin elden ring would update it's old preset combos w no ability to alter or chain strong/fast attacks together into something like surge2 had, but alas it did not. Such a shame....
Surge 2 is a great game, and battle trumps elden ring w the ability to chain attacks etc by far, won types are great, but armor variation is lacking a bit and world/bosses arent on par, but it's still a great game
Yup really hope that the next fromsoft game incorporates some of this games combat. Maybe the new lords of the fallen will bring a further evolution as well
Sounds like u rushed through the game...some of ur comments suggested u were just tryna play thru it as fast as possible to get it done so u can review it...but yeh I think it's excellent...alot less janky or clunky than most souls games...for example u can instantly use ur heal mid-fight rather than having to escape the fight in order to use ur healing item(estus flask)...I'd like others to maybe implement that quality of life mechanic
@@mre8ballgaming842 I wouldn't say I rushed through it I explored the areas as I was going through the game. I wasn't too engaged by the side content so didn't really do much of it. But I did quite enjoy the game. Yes the whole battery mechanic was a great QoL change including the instant heal. Kept you in the action for sure.
@capn_sarge I just think there's more than 16 hrs of gameplay in this game, especially for the first actual playthrough regardless of skill level...I'm sure it can be speed ran much faster once someone knows exactly the path to take and run by most of the fights
i liked the first surge alot better, i felt like the surge 2 was a downgrade and buggy

Massively disagree with you. there. You say the fromslftware games have this 'magic' that the non developers don't have. That's in your mind pal. You can't explain it. Video games are just basically long and drawn out math's equations. Nothing more nothing less. There is nothing supernatural about them.
